The performance of two electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometers/imagers, one configured in pulsed mode and the other in continuous wave (CW) mode, at an operating frequency of 300 MHz is compared. Using the same resonator (except for altered Q-factors), identical samples and filling factors in the two techniques have been evaluated for their potentials and limitations for in vivo spectroscopic and imaging applications. The assessment is based on metrics such as sensitivity, spatial and temporal resolution, field of view, image artifacts, viable spin probes, and subjects of study. The spectrometer dead time limits the pulsed technique to samples with long phase memories (>275 ns). Nevertheless, for viable narrow-line spin probes, the pulsed technique offers better sensitivity and temporal resolution. The CW technique, on the other hand, does not restrict the choice at spin probes. In addition, the phase-sensitive narrow-band detection of the CW technique gives artifact-free images even for large objects. Selected examples illustrating the performance of the CW and pulsed techniques are presented to put the capabilities of the two techniques in perspective.  相似文献

Molecular simulations for simple fluids in narrow slit-shaped carbon pores exhibit crystal-hexatic and hexatic-liquid transitions that are consistent with Kosterlitz-Thouless-Halperin-Nelson-Young theory. The temperature range over which the hexatic phase is stable is dramatically widened under confinement. Remarkably, the transitions, which are continuous for a single adsorbed layer, become weakly first order when the pore can accommodate two molecular layers. Nonlinear dielectric effect measurements for CCl4 and aniline in activated carbon fibers (pore width 1.4 nm) show divergence at these transitions, confirming the hexatic phase.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] The synthesis of a novel class of aminoglycosides, pyranmycins, is reported along with the structure activity relationship (SAR) of their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli. Two pyranmycins show prominent activity (9 microM). Pyranmycins also manifest superior stability in acidic media. The SAR information will lead to the future designs of pyranmycin against drug resistant bacteria.  相似文献

A major aim for the chemical technology of the future is the avoidance of noxious and environmentally unacceptable organic solvents. In this concept article we discuss more environmentally friendly and highly selective alternatives which we have evolved for carrying out a number of important chemical conversions. These entail the use of porous heterogeneous catalysts in which the active sites have been atomically engineered and fully characterized. Such solid catalysts operate under solvent-free conditions and usually entail one-step processes.  相似文献

The following divisors in the space of twelve points on are actually the same: the possible locus of the twelve nodal fibers in a rational elliptic fibration (i.e. a pencil of plane cubic curves); degree 12 binary forms that can be expressed as a cube plus a square; the locus of the twelve tangents to a smooth plane quartic from a general point of the plane; the branch locus of a degree 4 map from a hyperelliptic genus 3 curve to ; the branch locus of a degree 3 map from a genus 4 curve to induced by a theta-characteristic; and several more. The corresponding moduli spaces are smooth, but they are not all isomorphic; some are finite étale covers of others. We describe the web of interconnections among these spaces, and give monodromy, rationality, and Prym-related consequences. Enumerative consequences include: (i) the degree of this locus is 3762 (e.g. there are 3762 rational elliptic fibrations with nodes above 11 given general points of the base); (ii) if is a cover as in , then there are 135 different such covers branched at the same points; (iii) the general set of 12 tangent lines that arise in turn up in 120 essentially different ways. Some parts of this story are well known, and some other parts were known classically (to Zeuthen, Zariski, Coble, Mumford, and others). The unified picture is surprisingly intricate and connects many beautiful constructions, including Recillas' trigonal construction and Shioda's -Mordell-Weil lattice. The role of solvent on the base stacking properties of various stacked dimers has been analyzed. Ab initio calculations have been performed on the various stacked dimers using the isodensity polarizable continuum model (IPCM), in the framework of the HF/6‐31G** level. It is observed that the stacked dimers undergo different levels of stabilization for different rotated conformations, and the total energy of stacked dimers depends on the twist angle. The results reveal that DNA stacked dimers prefer the twisted (rotated conformation) conformation in water environment, so as to escape from water, due to their hydrophobic nature. Electrospun ZnO nanofibers were obtained by calcinating PVA/Zinc Acetate composite fibers at various temperatures. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) revealed that the ZnO fibers have diameters in the range of 100‐200 nm. The fibers were characterized by FT‐ IR, TGA‐DTA, and XRD studies.
