Anchoring strength coefficient of a monomer and its dimer at a polymer-coated interface

The dialkoxyphenylbenzoate monomer '5005' (C₅H₁₁OC₆H₄COOC₆H₄OC₅H₁₁) and its dimer were aligned parallel to a buffed polyimide-coated glass substrate. A magnetically induced Freedericksz transition in both thick and thin cells was used in conjunction with a capacitance technique to determine the anchoring strength coefficient Was a function of temperature in the nematic phase. It was found that for both monomer and dimer, Wincreases with decreasing temperature. The anchoring coefficient for the dimer, however, was found to be an order of magnitude larger than for the monomer at comparable reduced temperatures. The splay elastic moduli were also determined for both species, and found to be of comparable magnitude, consistent with previous results.     

The influence of extended conjugation on electroactive properties of copper phthalocyanine macromolecules

A monomer and polymer of a copper(II) phthalocyanine have been synthesized in order to develop structure-property relationships. Various electroactive properties such as dielectric constant, resistivity and thermally stimulated depolarization effects were investigated in order to examine the influence of extended conjugation.     

Series of Free Random Variables

We show that the three series theorem of classical probability holds for free random variables as well. Sufficiency of the three series condition was known under more general circumstances, so only necessity is at issue.     

Electro-migration on filterpaper in the separation of ions

Summary A study of the migration sequences of zinc and manganese, their separation from each other and from other ions such as Ni, Co, Ag, Cu, Pb, Bi, Hg and Cd in different electrolytes has been made. Zn and Mn ions from different binary, ternary and quaternary mixtures have been effectively separated and six cations from a mixture Pb-Co-Zn-Cd-Cu-Hg can be easily identified. Their complete separation is not possible under the conditions studied.     

Synthesis and structural details of MSr2RECu2O7+δ(M-1212;0⩽δ<1) compounds with M = Al,Nb, Fe,Ru, Ga & Co and RE = Eu,Y

Synthesis and structural details of MSr₂RECu₂O_z (M-1212) compounds with M = Ga, Nb, Fe, Al and Co) and RE = Eu, Y are reported. Reitveld refinement of X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns shows that all compounds are crystallized in single phase. Nb-, Fe- and Al-1212 possess tetragonal P4/mmm space group structure while the Ga-1212 and Co-1212 are crystallized in orthorhombic Ima2 space group. The change of space group from P4/mmm to Ima2 indicating towards the doubling of unit cell. The buckling angle [Cu(2)–O(2)–Cu(2) angle] shows that most of the studied samples are heavily under doped and hence they could not exhibit superconductivity. Thermogravimetric (TGA) analysis shows the M-1212 compounds to be more stable than widely studied 90 K superconductor Cu-1212 (RE-123).     

超燃冲压发动机性能的准二维计算方法

为了能在双模态超燃冲压发动机流道方案初步论证中提供一种较快速的发动机性能计算方法,在二维N-S方程基础上,引入一维完全燃烧计算方法,提出了预估超燃冲压发动机性能的准二维计算方法。该方法能够计入激波、边界层分离等对发动机性能的影响,可在较短时间计算出整机推力、比冲性能和沿程热力学参数。通过对自由射流发动机计算,验证了此方法。并在此基础上,初步分析了燃料喷注位置和流道构型对发动机性能的影响。      

Linearization relations for the generalized Bedient polynomials of the first and second kinds via their integral representations

The main object of this paper is to investigate several general families of hyper-geometric polynomials and their associated multiple integral representations. By suitably specializing our main results, the corresponding integral representations are deduced for such familiar classes of hypergeometric polynomials as (for example) the generalized Bedient polynomials of the first and second kinds. Each of the integral representations, which are derived in this paper, may be viewed also as a linearization relationship for the product of two different members of the associated family of hypergeometric polynomials.
