We introduce a novel method to couple Lennard-Jones beads to a lattice-Boltzmann fluid by adding a term which represents the slip within the Debye layer with respect to the surrounding fluid. The method produces realistic electrophoretic dynamics of charged free chains, as well as the correct stall force in the limit of a thin Debye layer. Our simulations also demonstrate how a net-neutral polyampholyte can have a nonzero net force due to hydrodynamic interactions. This method represents an efficient way to simulate a wide variety of complex problems in electrohydrodynamics.  相似文献

We report x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy and diffusing wave spectroscopy studies of depletion gels formed from nanoscale silica colloids in solutions of nonabsorbing polymer following the cessation of shear. The two techniques provide a quantitatively coherent picture of the dynamics as ballistic or convective motion of colloidal clusters whose internal motion is arrested. While the dynamics possesses features characteristic of nonergodic soft solids, including a relaxation time that grows linearly with the time since shear, comparison with behavior of quenched supercooled liquids indicates that this evolution is not directly related to traditional aging phenomena in glasses.  相似文献

We report studies of the frequency-dependent shear modulus, G(*)(omega) = G(')(omega) + iG(')(omega), of the liquid crystal octylcyanobiphenyl (8CB) confined in a colloidal aerosil gel. With the onset of smectic order, G' grows approximately linearly with decreasing temperature, reaching values that exceed by more than 3 orders of magnitude the values for pure 8CB. The modulus at low temperatures possesses a power-law component, G(*)(omega) approximately omega(alpha), with exponent alpha that approaches zero with increasing gel density. The amplitude of G' and its variation with temperature and gel density indicate that the low temperature response is dominated by a dense population of defects in the smectic. In contrast, when the 8CB is isotropic or nematic, the modulus is controlled by the elastic behavior of the colloidal gel.  相似文献

[reaction: see text]. Cobalt porphyrins are capable of catalyzing the aziridination of alkenes with bromamine-T as the nitrene source. Among cobalt complexes of different porphyrins, Co(TDClPP) is an effective catalyst that can aziridinate a wide variety of alkenes. The catalytic system can operate at room temperature in a one-pot fashion with alkenes as limiting reagents, forming the desired N-sulfonylated aziridine derivatives in high to excellent yields with NaBr as the byproduct.  相似文献

We report a neutron-scattering study to characterize the ordering and local dynamics of spherical micelles formed by the triblock copolymer polyethylene oxide (PEO)--polypropylene oxide (PPO)--polyethylene oxide (Pluronic) in aqueous solution. The study focuses on two Pluronic species, F68 and F108, that have the same weight fraction of PEO but that differ in chain length by approximately a factor of 2. At sufficiently high concentration, both species undergo a sequence of phase changes with increasing temperature from dissolved chains to micelles with liquid-like order to a cubic crystal phase and finally back to a micelle liquid phase. A comparison of the phase diagrams constructed from small-angle neutron scattering indicates that crystallization is suppressed for shorter chain micelles due to fluctuation effects. The intermediate scattering function I(Q,t)I(Q,0) determined by neutron spin echo displays a line shape with two distinct relaxations. Comparisons between I(Q,t)I(Q,0) for fully hydrogenated F68 chains in D2O and for F68 with deuterated PEO blocks reveal that the slower relaxation corresponds to Rouse modes of the PPO segments in the concentrated micelle cores. The faster relaxation is identified with longitudinal diffusive modes in the PEO corona characteristic of a polymer brush.  相似文献

Integral electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (ICEMS) and additionally some electrochemical methods were used to characterize the passivation process of iron (low carbon steel) in sulfate, sulfate+sulfite (a possible model solution of acid rain) solutions and in phospate buffer. The phase compositions and thicknesses of the passive layers formed due to the electrochemical polarizations were analyzed in dependence on the duration of the anodic passivations and on the pH of the used electrolytes. The passive layer, as determined from the Mössbauer spectra, consists mainly of -FeOOH, however in sulfite containing sulfate aqueous solution at pH 3.5 Fe3C and despite ex-situ circumstances FeSO4·H2O was detected after the shortest polarization time. The film thickness, which was found to grow nearly linearly with polarization time in pure sulfate solution and in phospate buffer, reached a maximum of 60–160 nm (depending on pH) in sulfate+sulfite solution after a passivation time of about 4 hours. It has been proved, that HSO3 -ion, which is contained by acid rain, initiate pit formation under acid conditions and so enforces the corrosion of iron. The experimental results furthermore suggest, that not the whole oxidic layer is responsible for the passivity but only a very thin intermediate layer formed between an inner oxide layer of a cubic structure and the rhombic oxide (-FeOOH) cover.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the stochastic spread of epidemics and rumours on networks. We focus on the general stochastic (SIR) epidemic model and a recently proposed rumour model on networks in Nekovee et al. (2007) [3], and on networks with different random structures, taking into account the structure of the underlying network at the level of the degree–degree correlation function. Using embedded Markov chain techniques and ignoring density correlations between neighbouring nodes, we derive a set of equations for the final size of the epidemic/rumour on a homogeneous network that can be solved numerically, and compare the resulting distribution with the solution of the corresponding mean-field deterministic model. The final size distribution is found to switch from unimodal to bimodal form (indicating the possibility of substantial spread of the epidemic/rumour) at a threshold value that is higher than that for the deterministic model. However, the difference between the two thresholds decreases with the network size, n, following a n−1/3 behaviour. We then compare results (obtained by Monte Carlo simulation) for the full stochastic model on a homogeneous network, including density correlations at neighbouring nodes, with those for the approximating stochastic model and show that the latter reproduces the exact simulation results with great accuracy. Finally, further Monte Carlo simulations of the full stochastic model are used to explore the effects on the final size distribution of network size and structure (using homogeneous networks, simple random graphs and the Barabasi–Albert scale-free networks).  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the Raman bands of Cr4+ modes which show enhanced intensities due to pre‐resonance effects is reported from 293 to 673 K in chromium‐doped titanite (CaTiOSiO4). Some aspects of the temperature dependence of Raman bands in pure, synthetic titanite which have not been previously published are also included in this study. Two Raman‐active components of Ag and Bg symmetry, respectively, of the symmetric Si–O mode in titanite are predicted under P21/a symmetry and also been identified in this phase for the first time. The one component of Bg symmetry disappears just above the antiferroelectric–paraelectric transition at ~500 K in accordance with the predictions under A2/a symmetry for the high‐temperature phase. Two resonance‐enhanced components of the Cr4+–O stretch are also evident in the P21/a phase and only one could be identified in the A2/a phase, again in accordance with group‐theoretical predictions. These observations can be used to characterize the P21/a and A2/a phases of pure synthetic and chromium‐doped titanite. The temperature dependence of the Cr4+–O modes can be approximated by two‐dimensional Ising behavior with the critical exponent β ≈ 1/8 below 450 K. Between 450 and 498 K, anomalous behavior is observed and this could be due to the appearance of mobile anti‐phase boundaries (APBs). Anomalous behavior also persists to temperatures above 500 K. The half‐width of the Ti–O stretching mode reflects the influence of the order parameter (Ti–O displacements) as well as mobile anti‐phase boundaries. No evidence could be found of the existence of other ions such as Cr4+‐ions in Ti‐sites and/or Cr3+‐ions also in Ti‐positions in Cr‐doped titanite in the Raman spectra using different laser lines to excite the spectra. A new model is presented for the dynamic analysis of a laminated circular ring segment. The differential equations which govern the free vibrations of a circular ring segment and the associated boundary conditions are derived by Hamilton's principle having consideration for the bending and shear deformation of all layers. The author uses a new iterative process to successively refine the stress/strain field in the sandwich arch. The model includes the effects of transverse shear and rotatory inertia. The iterative model is used to predict the modal frequencies and damping of simply-supported sandwich circular arch. The solutions for a three-layer circular arch are compared with a three-layer approximate model.  相似文献
