Anchoring Properties of Nematic Liquid Crystals Studied Using the Attenuated Total Reflection Method

By using the attenuated total reflection method associated with the excitation of surface plasmons, the tilt angle of the liquid crystal director and its gradient at the surface are measured in a planar nematic cell as a function of the applied voltage. The surface anchoring anisotropy δπ of the liquid crystal and the surface elastic constant k_s, are found to be δπ = 0.288 erg/cm and k_s, = 9·12 × 10^-11 erg, respectively, when the boundary condition suggested by Barbero et al is used. The theoretical and experimental values obtained with this boundary condition and that of Mada are discussed. The results show that the boundary condition proposed by Barbero et al is in better agreement with the experiment.

无催化纳米氧化锌的制备及其光学性质研究

本文采用无催化剂直接蒸发高纯Zn粉,在800℃氧气氛条件下,在Si(111)衬底上生长得到以四角状为主的纳米ZnO(T-ZnO)。T-ZnO纳米线每个角约互成110°,长度约为1.5μm,直径100nm左右;Raman分析表明E2(H)普遍存在于各形态的ZnO;光致发光光谱表明,T-ZnO纳米线的光致发光除了与材料性质有关,还与杂质缺陷有关,蓝绿光带是ZnO的缺陷产生的。

Demonstration of Soliton Solutions of DNLS Equation by Liouville Theorem

In the inverse scattering transform (IST), the reflectionless Jost solutions are combined by their analytic properties in the complex spectrum parameter plane, and then can be shown to satisfy the two Lax equations indeed by Liouville theorem. So the corresponding soliton solutions certainly satisfy the nonlinear equation by compatibility condition. Especially the multi-soliton solutions of DNLS equation can be demonstrated in this way. A completion of the spectrum for large sets of disjoint transitive triple systems

In this paper, we give a recursive construction from an LTTS(v + 2) to an LTTS(16v + 2) for v 3. Furthermore, the existence of LTTS(2ⁿ + 2) is proved. Thereby, we completely solve the existence problem of LTTS)(v) (large set of pairwise disjoint transitive triple systems of order v).     

On the existence of nontrivial extremal metrics on complete noncompact surfaces

In this paper, we consider the 2-dimensional local Calabi flow on a complete noncompact surface . Then, based on the Harnack-type estimate, we show the long-time existence and asymptotic convergence of a subsequence of solutions of such a flow on with and bounded from above by a negative constant on a ball. For its applications, this will lead to the existence of extremal metrics on a complete noncompact surface of finite topological type. Bioaccumulation and excretion of arsenic compounds by a marine unicellular alga,polyphysa peniculus

Polyphysa peniculus was grown in artificial seawater in the presence of arsenate, arsenite, monomethylarsonate and dimethylarsinic acid. The separation and identification of some of the arsenic species produced in the cells as well as in the growth medium were achieved by using hydride generation–gas chromatography–atomic absorption spectrometry methodology. Arsenite and dimethylarsinate were detected following incubation with arsenate. When the alga was treated with arsenite, dimethylarsinate was the major metabolite in the cells and in the growth medium; trace amounts of monomethylarsonate were also detected in the cells. With monomethylarsonate as a substrate, the metabolite is dimethylarsinate. Polyphysa peniculus did not metabolize dimethylarsinic acid when it was used as a substrate. Significant amounts of more complex arsenic species, such as arsenosungars, were not observed in the cells or medium on the evidence of flow injection–microwave digestion–hydride generation–atomic absorption spectrometry methodology. Transfer of the exposed cells to fresh medium caused release of most cell–associated arsenicals to the surrounding environment.
