Optimization toward a high-average-brightness soft-x-ray laser pumped at grazing incidence

We report the near-field imaging characterization of a 10 Hz Ni-like 18.9 nm molybdenum soft-x-ray laser pumped in a grazing incidence pumping (GRIP) geometry with a table-top laser driver. We investigate the effect of varying the GRIP angle on the spatial behavior of the soft-x-ray laser source. After multiparameter optimization, we were able to find conditions to generate routinely a high-repetition-rate soft-x-ray laser with an energy level of up to 3 microJ/pulse and to 6x10(17) photons/s/mm2/mrad2/(0.1% bandwidth) average brightness and 1x10(28) photons/s/mm2/mrad2/(0.1% bandwidth) peak brightness.     

An efficient and regioselective synthesis of 1,1′-oxalylbis[3-(alkyl/aryl/heteroaryl)-5-(trihalomethyl)-1H-pyrazoles] from 4-alkoxy-1,1,1-trihaloalk-3-en-2-ones

Abstract  

This work describes the regioselective synthesis of two new series of 1,1′-oxalylbis[3-(alkyl/aryl/heteroaryl)-4,5-dihydro-5-hydroxy-5-(trihalomethyl)-1H-pyrazoles], where the 3-substituents are H, Me, C₆H₅, 4-FC₆H₄, 4-ClC₆H₄, 4-BrC₆H₄, 4-NO₂C₆H₄, 4,4′-BiPh, and 2-furyl, in a one-pot methodology with ethanol as solvent, from the reaction of 4-alkoxy-4-(alkyl/aryl/heteroaryl)-1,1,1-trihaloalk-3-en-2-ones with oxalyldihydrazide (51–89%). Complementarily, the dehydration reactions of five examples of the described oxalylbispyrazolines are also reported, which furnished the respective 1,1′-oxalylbis[3-(alkyl/aryl/heteroaryl)-5-(trihalomethyl)-1H-pyrazoles] in 53–78% yields without the two C(O)–N bond cleavages.     

Parallel solution-phase synthesis of a 2-aminothiazole library including fully automated work-up

A straightforward and effective procedure for the solution phase preparation of a 2-aminothiazole combinatorial library is described. Reaction, work-up and isolation of the title compounds as free bases was accomplished in a fully automated fashion using the Chemspeed ASW 2000 automated synthesizer. The compounds were obtained in good yields and excellent purities without any further purification procedure.     

Liquid-crystalline hybrid materials based on [60]fullerene and bent-core structures

What a core-ker! By the appropriate combination of promesogenic bent-core structures and the C(60) unit, lamellar polar liquid-crystal phases were induced. The supramolecular organization of the functional fullerene-based assemblies, the temperature range of the soft phase, the stabilization of the mesophase-like order at room temperature, and the molecular switching under an electric field can be tuned, depending on the molecular structure.     

Operator geometric stable laws

Operator geometric stable laws are the weak limits of operator normed and centered geometric random sums of independent, identically distributed random vectors. They generalize operator stable laws and geometric stable laws. In this work we characterize operator geometric stable distributions, their divisibility and domains of attraction, and present their application to finance. Operator geometric stable laws are useful for modeling financial portfolios where the cumulative price change vectors are sums of a random number of small random shocks with heavy tails, and each component has a different tail index.     

Towards Martins minimum

We show that it is consistent with MA + ?CH that the Forcing Axiom fails for all forcing notions in the class of ω^ω–bounding forcing notions with norms of [17]. Received: 28 April 1999 / Published online: 12 December 2001     

Hausdorff Dimension of Operator Stable Sample Paths

The Hausdorff dimension of the sample paths of a stochastic process with stationary independent operator stable increments is computed. With probability one, every sample path has the same dimension, depending on the real parts of the eigenvalues of the operator stable exponent.
