Recent advances in dynamic force microscopy show that it is possible to measure the forces between atomically sharp tips and particular atomic positions on surfaces as a function of distance. However, on most ionic surfaces, the positive and negative ions can so far not be distinguished. In this paper, we use the CaF2(111) surface, where atomic resolution force microscopy has allowed identification of the positions of the Ca2+ and F- ions in the obtained images, to demonstrate that short-range interaction forces can be measured selectively above chemically identified surface sites. Combining experimental and theoretical results allows a quantification of the strength and distance dependence of the interaction of a tip-terminating cluster with particular surface ions and reveals details of cluster and surface relaxation. Further development of this approach will provide new insight into mechanisms of chemical bond formation between clusters, cluster deposition at surfaces, processes in adhesion and tribology, and single atom manipulation with the force microscope.  相似文献

Treatment of the bis(allylsulfoximine)titanium complexes derived from the beta-methyl-substituted acyclic allylic sulfoximines 13a and 13b with aldehydes gave with high selectivities the corresponding sulfoximine-substituted homoallylic alcohols which were isolated as the silyl ethers 15a-h. Methylation of sulfoximines 15a-h afforded the aminosulfoxonium salts 5a-h which upon treatment with LiN(H)tBu gave in high yields the enantio- and diastereomerically pure silyl-substituted 2,3-dihydrofurans 4a-h. Treatment of the titanium complexes derived from the cyclic allylic sulfoximines 17a, 17b, and ent-17c with p-MeOC(6)H(4)CHO delivered with high selectivities the corresponding sulfoximine-substituted cyclic homoallylic alcohols which were isolated as the silyl ethers 18a, 18b, and ent-18c, respectively. Methylation of sulfoximines 18a, 18b, and ent-18c furnished the aminosulfoxonium salts 8a, 8b, and ent-8c, respectively, whose treatment with LiN(H)t-Bu gave the enantio- and diastereomerically pure fused bicyclic 2,3-dihydrofurans 6a, 6b, and ent-6c, respectively, in good yields. It is proposed that the 1-alkenyl aminosulfoxonium salts 5a-h, 8a, 8b, and ent-8c react with the base under alpha-elimination and formation of the acyclic and cyclic beta-silyloxy alkylidene carbenes 2a-h, 7a, 7b, and ent-7c, respectively, which then undergo a 1,5-O,Si-bond insertion and 1,2-silyl migration. The cyclic aminosulfoxonium salts 8a, 8b, and ent-8c upon treatment with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-7-undecene did not undergo an alpha-elimination but suffered a novel migratory cyclization with formation of the enantio- and diastereomerically pure bicyclic tetrahydrofurans 9a, 9b, and ent-9c, respectively. It is proposed that the 1-alkenyl sulfoxonium salts 8a, 8b, and ent-8c are isomerized to the allylic aminosulfoxonium salts 10a, 10b, and ent-10c, respectively, which then suffer an intramolecular substitution of the (dimethylamino)sulfoxonium group by the silyloxy group followed by a desilylation. The syntheses of the 2,3-dihydrofurans 4a-h, 6a, and 6b and of the tetrahydrofurans 9a and 9b are accompanied by the formation of sulfinamide 16 of >or=98% ee, which can be converted via sulfoxide 28 of >or=98% to the starting sulfoximine 11 of >or=98% ee.  相似文献

Using single-crystalline Fe(3)O(4)(111) films grown over Pt(111) in UHV as a model-support, we have characterized the nucleation behaviour and chemical properties of Pd particles grown over the film using different deposition techniques with scanning tunnelling microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Comparison of Pd/Fe(3)O(4) samples created via Pd evaporation under UHV conditions and those resulting from the solution deposition of Pd-hydroxo complexes reveals that changes in the interfacial functionalization of such samples (i.e. roughening and hydroxylation) govern the differences in Pd nucleation behavior observed over pristine oxides relative to those exposed to alkaline solutions. Furthermore, it appears that other differences in the nature of the Pd precursor state (i.e. gas-phase Pd in UHV vs. [Pd(OH)(2)](n) aqueous complexes) play a negligible role in Pd nucleation and growth behaviour at elevated temperatures in UHV, suggesting facile decomposition of the Pd complexes deposited from the liquid phase. Applying temperature programmed desorption and infrared spectroscopy to probe the CO chemisorption properties of such samples after reduction in different reagents (CO, H(2)) shows the formation of bimetallic PdFe alloys following reduction in H(2), but monometallic Pd particles after CO reduction.  相似文献

 As a result of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in 1986, thyroid pathologies occurred among children in some regions of Belarus. Besides the irradiation of children’s thyroids by radioactive iodine and caesium nuclides, toxic elements from fallout are a direct risk to health. Inductively coupled plasma quadrupole-based mass spectrometry was used for multielement determination in small amounts (1–10 mg) of thyroid tissue samples obtained during thyroid operations in Minsk hospitals. The accuracy of the applied analytical technique for small biological sample amounts was checked using NIST Standard Reference Material oyster tissue (SRM 1566b) and by comparison with independent analytical methods, such as neutron activation analysis. Almost all essential elements as well as a number of toxic elements such as Cd, Pb, Hg, U etc. were determined in a multitude of human and animal thyroid tissues (up to 1 mg sample material) by quadrupole-based ICP-MS using micronebulization. In general, the thyroid tissue affected by pathology is characterized by higher calcium content. Some other elements, among them Fe, Mn, V, As, Cr, Ni, Pb, U, Ba, Sb, were also accumulated in such tissue. The results obtained will be used as initial material for further specific studies of the role of particular elements in thyroid pathology development. Received November 15, 1999. Different modifications of the imine – acyl chloride reaction were used for the synthesis of 3-mono- and 3,3-dihalogenated 1,4-diaryl substituted β-lactams. Furthermore, these β-lactams were modified by halogen substitution either at the aryl at position 1 or at the aryl substituent at position 4, or at both positions. The influence of the halogen atoms on the reactivity of the β-lactam ring, visible by the carbonyl frequence in their IR spectra, was studied. A selection of compounds was tested as inhibitors of the serin protease porcine pancreatic elastase. No simple correlation between IR frequence and biological activity was found. Finally, the base induced rearrangement of N-benzyl β-lactams was used for the synthesis of 4,5-diaryl substituted pyrrolidinones. The adsorption of small amounts of alkali metal atoms (Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs) on the surface of MgO powders and thin films has been studied by means of EPR spectroscopy and DFT calculations. From a comparison of the measured and computed g values and hyperfine coupling constants (hfccs), a tentative assignment of the preferred adsorption sites is proposed. All atoms bind preferentially to surface oxide anions, but the location of these anions differs as a function of the deposition temperature and alkali metal. Lithium forms relatively strong bonds with MgO and can be stabilized at low temperatures on terrace sites. Potassium interacts very weakly with MgO and is stabilized only at specific sites, such as at reverse corners where it can interact simultaneously with three surface oxygen atoms (rubidium and cesium presumably behave in the same way). Sodium forms bonds of intermediate strength and could, in principle, populate more than a single site when deposited at room temperature. In all cases, large deviations of the hfccs from the gas-phase values are observed. These reductions in the hfccs are due to polarization effects and are not connected to ionization of the alkali metal, which would lead to the formation of an adsorbed cation and a trapped electron. In this respect, hydrogen atoms behave completely differently. Under similar conditions, they form (H(+))(e(-)) pairs. The reasons for this different behavior are discussed.  相似文献

Cobalt-doped zinc oxide single crystals with the shape of hexagonal platelets were synthesized by thermohydrolysis of zinc acetate, cobalt acetate, and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) in mixtures of ethanol and water. The mineralization proceeds by a low-temperature dissolution–reprecipitation process from the liquid phase by the formation of basic cobalt zinc salts as intermediates. The crystal shape as well as twin formation of the resulting oxide phase can be influenced by careful choice of the solvent mixture and the amount of doping. An understanding of the course of the reaction was achieved by comprehensive employment of analytical techniques (i.e., SEM, XRD, IR) including an in-depth HRTEM study of precipitates from various reaction stages. In addition, EPR as well as UV/Vis spectroscopic measurements provide information about the insertion of the cobalt dopant into the zincite lattice. The Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique is shown to be suitable for depositing coatings of the platelets on glass substrates functionalized with polyelectrolyte multilayers and hence is applied for the formation of monolayers containing domains with ordered tessellation. No major differences are found between deposits on substrates with anionic or cationic surface modification. The adherence to the substrates is sufficient to determine the absolute orientation of the deposited polar single crystals by piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) studies.  相似文献

Three major obstacles in electronic structure theory are the steep scalings of computer time with respect to system size and basis size and the slow convergence of correlation energies in orbital basis sets. Three solutions to these are, respectively, local methods, density fitting, and explicit correlation; in this work, we combine all three to produce a low-order scaling method that can achieve accurate MP2 energies for large systems. The errors introduced by the local approximations into the R12 treatment are analyzed for 16 chemical reactions involving 21 molecules. Weak pair approximations, as well as local resolution of the identity approximations, are tested for molecules with up to 49 atoms, over 100 correlated electrons, and over 1000 basis functions.  相似文献
