Separation of 18 modern plant protectants using cyclodextrin modified micellar electrokinetic chromatography including an ion-pairing reagent

A cyclodextrin-modified micellar electrokinetic chromatography separation for 18 different pesticides (metsulfuron-methyl, rimsulfuron, thifen-sulfuron-methyl, desethylatrazine, desisopropylatrazine, atrazine, simazine, terbuthylazine, 2,4-D, MCPP, MCPB, dicamba, linuron, alachlor, metolachlor, orbencarb, propiconazole, prochloraz) from eight different substance classes with very varying chemical and physical properties is presented. In particular acid-base characteristics and water-octanol distribution coefficients diverge in wide ranges. -cyclodextrin was successfully employed as a modifier in separating the hydrophobic analytes. Peak distortion of some neutral analytes, which is devoted to the methanol content of the sample zone, was reduced by increasing the SDS concentration. Methanol in the sample is necessary for a better solubility of the hydrophobic pesticides. Few optima of SDS concentration exist allowing the separation of sulfonylureas as well as phenoxy acids and hydrophobic pesticides. An improved resolution of the sulfonylureas was achieved with tetramethylammonium chloride, which was used as an ion-pairing reagent.Final operating conditions for the separation of all these plant protectant compounds by MEKC in just one single run are a 27 mmolL^–1 phosphate buffer, pH 8.03, with 95 mmolL^–1SDS, 5 mmolL^–1 -cyclodextrin and 10 mmol L^–1 tetramethylammonium-chloride.     

Quantum Fields Obtained from Convoluted Generalized White Noise Never Have Positive Metric

It is proven that the relativistic quantum fields obtained from analytic continuation of convoluted generalized (Lévy type) noise fields have positive metric, if and only if the noise is Gaussian. This follows as an easy observation from a criterion by Baumann, based on the Dell’Antonio–Robinson–Greenberg theorem, for a relativistic quantum field in positive metric to be a free field.     

Generalizations of Heilbronn’s triangle problem

For given integers d,j≥2 and any positive integers n, distributions of n points in the d-dimensional unit cube [0,1]^d are investigated, where the minimum volume of the convex hull determined by j of these n points is large. In particular, for fixed integers d,k≥2 the existence of a configuration of n points in [0,1]^d is shown, such that, simultaneously for j=2,…,k, the volume of the convex hull of any j points among these n points is Ω(1/n^{(j−1)/(1+|d−j+1|)}). Moreover, a deterministic algorithm is given achieving this lower bound, provided that d+1≤j≤k.     

Models for singularity categories

In this article we construct various models for singularity categories of modules over differential graded rings. The main technique is the connection between abelian model structures, cotorsion pairs and deconstructible classes, and our constructions are based on more general results about localization and transfer of abelian model structures. We indicate how recollements of triangulated categories can be obtained model categorically, discussing in detail Krause?s recollement _Kac(Inj(R))→K(Inj(R))→D(R)${\mathrm{K}}_{\mathrm{ac}}(\mathrm{Inj}(R))\to \mathrm{K}(\mathrm{Inj}(R))\to \mathrm{D}(R)$. In the special case of curved mixed Z$\mathbb{Z}$-graded complexes, we show that one of our singular models is Quillen equivalent to Positselski?s contraderived model for the homotopy category of matrix factorizations.     

Identification of differentially expressed, tumor-associated proteins in oral squamous cell carcinoma by proteomic analysis

Oral squamous cellular carcinoma is a malignant tumor with poor prognosis and therefore the discovery of early markers to discriminate malignant from normal cells would be of critical importance in clinical diagnosis. Subcellular fractions from oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and control samples, enriched in mitochondrial and cytosolic proteins, were analyzed by 2-DE, followed by MALDI-TOF-MS. Twenty proteins showed altered expression levels in OSCC; 14 were up- and 6 were down-regulated in comparison with the control samples. For 11 proteins, cofilin, C-reactive protein precursor, creatine kinase m-chain, fatty acid-binding protein, keratin type II, myosin light chain 2 and 3, nucleoside diphosphate kinase A, phosphoglycerate mutase 1, plakoglobulin, and retinoic acid-binding protein II, it is shown for the first time that they are differentially expressed in OSCC. Proteins with highly up-regulated levels may be of interest as potential diagnostic markers and consequently of clinical interest.

We consider the extremal problem to determine the maximal number of columns of a 0-1 matrix with rows and at most ones in each column such that each columns are linearly independent modulo . For fixed integers and , we shall prove the probabilistic lower bound = ; for a power of , we prove the upper bound which matches the lower bound for infinitely many values of . We give some explicit constructions.
