Long argan fruit drying time is detrimental for argan oil quality

Argan oil is extracted from the kernels of argan fruits that have been sun-dried for either a few days or up to several weeks. The influence of the fruit drying time on the quantity, quality, and preservation of solvent-extracted argan oil was compared with press-extracted argan oil. Quantitatively, the time necessary for efficient fruit peeling and the amount of extracted oil were determined with regard to the fruit drying time (0 to 28 days). Argan oil quality was studied using, as markers, moisture content, specific extinction, acid index, peroxide index, fatty acid composition, and Rancimat oxidative stability. Oil from fresh fruit presents a high moisture content, high acidity and peroxide values, and short shelf life. Ten to fourteen days of sun-drying is optimum to obtain high quality argan oil.     

Highly potent chiral labeling reagents for the discrimination of chiral alcohols.

Highly sensitive chiral labeling reagents, (1R,2R)- and (1S,2S)-2-(2,3-anthracenedicarboximido)cyclohexanecarboxylic acids [(1R,2R)- and (1S,2S)-A] and (1R,2R)- and (1S,2S)-2-(2,3-naphthalenedicarboximido)cyclohexanecarboxylic acids [(1R,2R)- and (1S,2S)-A'], were prepared. Reagent A has enabled us to discriminate the enantiomers of anteiso fatty alcohols up to C9 methyl branching by 1H NMR, and both reagents A and A' have allowed up to C16 methyl branching at the 10(-15) molar level by fluorescence detected reversed-phase HPLC.     

Additive Functionals of the Solution to Fractional Stochastic Heat Equation

We give sharp regularity results for the solution to the linear stochastic heat equation with fractional noise in time. We apply these result to prove the local nondeterminism of this process and to study the existence and the joint continuity of its local times.
