Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) does not allow for easy determination of the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of the polystyrene (PS) block in styrene–butadiene–styrene (SBS) block copolymers. Modulated DSC (MDSC), which deconvolutes the standard DSC signal into reversing and nonreversing signals, was used to determine the (Tg) of both the polybutadiene (PB) and PS blocks in SBS. The Tg of the PB block was sharp, at ?92 °C, but that for the PS blocks was extremely broad, from ?60 to 125 °C with a maximum at 68 °C because of blending with PB. PS blocks were found only to exist in a mixed PS–PB phase. This concurred with the results from dynamic mechanical analysis. Annealing did not allow for a segregation of the PS blocks into a pure phase, but allowed for the segregation of the mixed phase into two mixed phases, one that was PB‐rich and the other that was PS‐rich. Tensile impact experiments of EC8.0−24×7 glass fiber bundles at different low temperaturesT(14°C, −40°C and −10°C) and strain rates ɛ were carried out, and complete stress-strain curves were obtained. Within the range

of the glass fiber bundles all increase with ɛ at an identicalT. At an identical ɛ, with the decrease ofT, E and σmax increase; but ɛ

increases when 10°C>T>−40°C and decreases when −40°C>T>−100°C. The strain-rate- and temperature-dependent bimodal Weibull statistical constitutive theory was adopted for the statistical
analysis of the experimental results, and the Weibull parameters of single fiber were obtained. The results show that the
bimodal Weibull distribution function is suitable to represent the strength distribution of the glass fiber at low temperature
and different strain rates. The differences in the mechanical properties between EC8.0−24×7 and EC5.5−12 ×14 glass fiber bundles
were also discussed.

In this paper a half space problem for the one-dimensional Boltzmann equation with specular reflective boundary condition is investigated. Many recent algorithmic approaches involve the construction of a differential equation model for computational purposes, typically
by introducing an artificial time variable. The actual computational model involves a discretization of the now time-dependent differential system, usually
employing forward Euler. The resulting dynamics of such an algorithm is then a discrete dynamics, and it is expected to be
“close enough” to the dynamics of the continuous system (which is typically easier to analyze) provided that small – hence
many – time steps, or iterations, are taken. Indeed, recent papers in inverse problems and image processing routinely report
results requiring thousands of iterations to converge. This makes one wonder if and how the computational modeling process
can be improved to better reflect the actual properties sought.
In this article we elaborate on several problem instances that illustrate the above observations. Algorithms may often lend
themselves to a dual interpretation, in terms of a simply discretized differential equation with artificial time and in terms
of a simple optimization algorithm; such a dual interpretation can be advantageous. We show how a broader computational modeling
approach may possibly lead to algorithms with improved efficiency.

New characterizations of a properly efficient solution in the sense of Geoffrion's are established in terms of the stability of one scalar optimization problem and the existence of an exact penalty function of a scalar constrained program, respectively. It is shown that new sources of CP violation can be generated in models with more than one extra dimension. In the supersymmetric models on the space-time , where the radius moduli have auxiliary vacuum expectation values and the supersymmetry breaking is mediated by the Kaluza–Klein
states of the gauge supermultiplets, we analyze the gaugino masses and trilinear couplings for two scenarios and obtain the
result that there exist relative CP violating phases among the gaugino masses and trilinear couplings.

Poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)/layered double hydroxides (LDHs) nanocomposites were prepared by mixing PHB and poly(ethylene glycol) phosphonates (PEOPAs)‐modified LDH (PMLDH) in chloroform solution. Both X‐ray diffraction data and TEM micrographs of PHB/PMLDH nanocomposites indicate that the PMLDHs are randomly dispersed and exfoliated into the PHB matrix. In this study, the effect of PMLDH on the isothermal crystallization behavior of PHB was investigated using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy. Isothermal crystallization results of PHB/PMLDH nanocomposites show that the addition of 2 wt % PMLDH into PHB induced more heterogeneous nucleation in the crystallization significantly increasing the crystallization rate and reducing their activation energy. By adding more PMLDH into the PHB probably causes more steric hindrance of the diffusion of PHB, reducing the transportation ability of polymer chains during crystallization, thus increasing the activation energy. The correlation among crystallization kinetics, melting behavior and crystalline structure of PHB/PMLDH nanocomposites can also be discussed. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An implicit iterative method is applied to solving linear ill‐posed problems with perturbed operators. It is proved that the optimal convergence rate can be obtained after choosing suitable number of iterations. A generalized Morozov's discrepancy principle is proposed for the problems, and then the optimal convergence rate can also be obtained by an a posteriori strategy.
