Oxygen dissociation at Pt steps   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Using scanning tunneling microscopy, thermal energy atom scattering, and density functional theory we have characterized O (2) dissociation on Pt(111) stepped surfaces at the atomic scale. The most reactive site is at the top of the Pt steps. In both the molecular precursor state (MPS) and the transition state (TS), the O (2) has its axis aligned parallel to the step edge. Controlled step decoration with Ag monatomic chains was used to locally tune the reactivity of Pt step sites. The enhanced reactivity at the Pt step sites is not caused by a decrease of the local dissociation barriers from the MPS but is related to a stabilization of both the MPS and TS.  相似文献

Using time-resolved emission spectroscopy at visible wavelengths, we explored the conditions of plasmas generated by current-driven explosions of single aluminum wires. The experiments were carried out with 15 μm aluminum wires driven by the Low Current Pulser 3 (LCP3) at Cornell University.The plasma conditions were studied as a function of time and radial position, including electron temperature, electron density, ionization state, and magnetic field. To determine the magnetic field, we are working toward employing a new diagnostic method which makes use of Zeeman-effect-produced differences in the line shapes of two fine structure components of a multiplet that are equally broadened by Stark effect and by Doppler broadening. Preliminary results and data collected by a spectroscopy system with 3.2 Å resolution are presented.  相似文献

Herein we describe the preparation and structure‐activity relationship studies on range of stilbene based compounds and their antibacterial activity. Two related compounds, each bearing carboxylic acid moieties, exhibit good activity against several bacterial strains, including methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus MRSA (ATCC 33592 and NCTC 10442). Compound 10 was most active against Moraxella catarrhalis with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 0.12–0.25 μg mL?1 and against Staphylococcus spp. with MICs ranging from 2–4 μg mL?1. The derivative 17 showed increased activity with MICs of 0.06–0.25 μg mL?1 against M. catarrhalis and 0.12–1 against Staphylococcus spp. This level of activity is similar to that reported for S. aureus for antibiotics, such as vancomycin, with MICs of ≤2.0 μg mL?1 and clindamycin with MICs of ≤0.5 μg mL?1. As an indicator of toxicity, 17 was tested for its ability to lyse sheep erythrocytes, and showed low haemolytic activity. Such results highlight the value of tris(stilbene) compounds as antibacterial agents providing suitable properties for further development.  相似文献

Recent studies have shown that polymersomes templated by microfluidic double‐emulsion possess several advantages such as high monodispersity and encapsulation efficiency compared with those generated based on thin‐film rehydration and electroformation. Stabilizers, including bovine serum albumin (BSA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), have been used to enhance the formation and stability of double emulsions that are used as templates for the generation of polymersomes. In this work, the effect of stabilizers on the mechanical response of double‐emulsion‐templated polymersomes using micropipette aspiration is investigated. It is demonstrated that the existence of stabilizers results in the inelastic response in poly­mersomes in the early stage of solvent removal. However, aged polymersomes that have little residual solvent show elastic behavior. Polymersomes prepared from PVA‐stabilized double emulsions have noticeably lower area expansion moduli than polymersomes prepared from stabilizer‐free and BSA‐stabilized double emulsions, suggesting that PVA is incorporated in the bilayer membrane of polymersomes.

The differential cross section for the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons has been measured as a function of the photon transverse energy E(T)(γ) in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV using data recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb(-1). Photons are required to have a pseudorapidity |η(γ)|<1.45 and E(T)(γ)>21 GeV, covering the kinematic region 0.006相似文献

A search for pair production of first-generation scalar leptoquarks is performed in the final state containing two electrons and two jets using proton-proton collision data at √s = 7 TeV. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 33 pb?1 collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The number of observed events is in good agreement with the predictions for the standard model background processes, and an upper limit is set on the leptoquark pair production cross section times β2 as a function of the leptoquark mass, where β is the branching fraction of the leptoquark decay to an electron and a quark. A 95% confidence level lower limit is set on the mass of a first-generation scalar leptoquark at 384 GeV for β = 1, which is the most stringent direct limit to date.  相似文献

A study of events with missing transverse energy and an energetic jet is performed using pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The data were collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). An excess of these events over standard model contributions is a signature of new physics such as large extra dimensions and unparticles. The number of observed events is in good agreement with the prediction of the standard model, and significant extension of the current limits on parameters of new physics benchmark models is achieved.  相似文献

We report on the solution-state assembly of all-conjugated polythiophene diblock copolymers containing nonpolar (hexyl) and polar (triethylene glycol) side chains. The polar substituents provide a large contrast in solubility, enabling formation of stably suspended crystalline fibrils even under very poor solvent conditions for the poly(3-hexylthiophene) block. For appropriate block ratios, complexation of the triethylene glycol side chains with added potassium ions drives the formation of helical nanowires that further bundle into superhelical structures.  相似文献
