This paper concerns finite, edge-transitive direct and strong products, as well as infinite weak Cartesian products. We prove that the direct product of two connected, non-bipartite graphs is edge-transitive if and only if both factors are edge-transitive and at least one is arc-transitive, or one factor is edge-transitive and the other is a complete graph with loops at each vertex. Also, a strong product is edge-transitive if and only if all factors are complete graphs. In addition, a connected, infinite non-trivial Cartesian product graph G is edge-transitive if and only if it is vertex-transitive and if G is a finite weak Cartesian power of a connected, edge- and vertex-transitive graph H, or if G is the weak Cartesian power of a connected, bipartite, edge-transitive graph H that is not vertex-transitive.  相似文献

Research indicates that teacher efficacy influences student achievement and is situation specific. With the Next Generation Science Standards calling for the incorporation of engineering practices into K–12 classrooms, it is important to identify teachers’ engineering teaching efficacy. A study of K–5 teachers’ engineering self‐efficacy and engineering teaching efficacy revealed that that they have low engineering self‐efficacy and low teacher efficacy related to engineering pedagogical content knowledge. Additionally, significant differences existed in self‐efficacy levels based on gender, ethnicity, Title I school status, and grade level taught.  相似文献

An existing method for chloramphenicol (CAP) determination in shrimp using a gas chromatograph with electron capture detector was adapted for confirmation of CAP with a liquid chromatograph interfaced to a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. CAP residues are extracted from tissue with ethyl acetate, isolated via liquid-liquid extraction, and concentrated by evaporation. Extracts are chromatographed by using a reversed-phased column and analyzed by electrospray negative mode tandem mass spectrometry. Four product ions (m/z 152, 176, 194, and 257) of precursor m/z 321 were monitored. Moving from gas chromatography to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry improved the sensitivity of the method greatly, enabling reliable confirmation of CAP residues at 0.3 microg/kg (ppb). The method meets confirmation criteria recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and 4-point identification criteria established by the European Union. With slight modifications to accommodate different equipment, the method was validated in 3 laboratories.  相似文献

Twenty-three laboratories participated in a collaborative study to compare the relative effectiveness of Rappaport-Vassiliadis (RV) medium incubated at 42 degrees C, selenite cystine (SC) broth (35 degrees C), and tetrathionate (TT) broth (35 and 43 degrees C) for recovery of Salmonella from the following foods with a low microbial load: dried egg yolk, dry active yeast, ground black pepper, guar gum, and instant nonfat dry milk. For dry active yeast, lauryl tryptose (LT) broth, incubated at 35 degrees C, was used instead of SC broth. All of the foods were artificially inoculated with single Salmonella serovars, that had been lyophilized before inoculation, at high and low target levels of 0.4 and 0.04 colony forming units/g food, respectively. For analysis of 870 test portions, representing all of the foods except yeast, 249 Salmonella-positive test portions were detected by RV medium, 265 by TT broth (43 degrees C), 268 by TT broth (35 degrees C), and 269 by SC broth (35 degrees C). For analysis of 225 test portions of yeast, 79 Salmonella-positive test portions were detected by RV medium, 79 by TT broth (43 degrees C), 84 by TT broth (35 degrees C), and 68 by LT broth (35 degrees C). RV medium was comparable to, or even more effective than, the other selective enrichments for recovery of Salmonella from all of the foods except guar gum. It is recommended that RV (42 degrees C) and TT (35 degrees C) be used with foods that have a low microbial load, except for guar gum for which SC (35 degrees C) and TT (35 degrees C) are recommended.  相似文献

Modulated deep-water 1D Stokes waves are considered experimentally and theoretically. Wave trains are modulated in a controlled fashion and their evolution is recorded. Data from repeated laboratory experiments are reproducible near the wave maker, but diverge away from the wave maker. Numerical integration of a perturbed nonlinear Schrodinger equation and an associated linear spectral problem indicate that under suitable conditions modulated periodic Stokes waves evolve chaotically. Sensitive spectral evolution in the neighborhood of homoclinic manifolds of the unperturbed nonlinear Schrodinger equation is found.  相似文献

The Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM) Salmonella culture method did not detect Salmonella Typhi in mamey, the tropical fruit that was implicated in a 1999 typhoid outbreak. The relative effectiveness of BAM's nonselective preenrichment and selective media for the recovery of S. Typhi from mamey was examined to determine if the BAM's preenrichment/selective enrichment strategy was the cause of the method's failure with this food. The preenrichment media were lactose broth, buffered peptone water (BPW), and universal preenrichment (UP) broth. The selective enrichment media were selenite cystine (SC) broth, tetrathionate (TT) broth, and Rappaport-Vassiliadis (RV) medium. UP broth was significantly more effective (P < 0.05) than either lactose broth or BPW for the recovery of 2 different S. Typhi strains from mamey. Of 120 test portions tested, 105 S. Typhi-positive test portions were recovered using UP broth, whereas only 1 S. Typhi-positive test portion was recovered using BPW, and no S. Typhi-positive test portions were recovered using lactose broth. SC and TT broths were both significantly more effective (P < 0.05) than RV medium. Of 105 S. Typhi-positive test portions, SC broth recovered 80, TT broth recovered 67, and RV medium recovered 9. After the above comparison, an incomplete UP (UPI) broth formulation was found to be significantly more effective (P < 0.05) than the complete formulation (UPC). Of 80 total positive test portions, UPI recovered 71, whereas UPC recovered only 48. The following UP broth formulations were compared to determine if any of the components of the UP broth formulation were inhibitory to S. Typhi: UPC, UP broth without sodium pyruvate (UPS), UP broth without ferric ammonium citrate (UPF), UP broth without MgSO4 (UPM), and UPI. It was found that none of the ingredients were inhibitory to S. Typhi and that, out of 140 total test portions, UPI and UPF, with 108 and 103 positive test portions, respectively, were significantly more effective (P < 0.05) than the other UP broth formulations (82 for UPC, 74 for UPS, and 60 for UPM). Rather than being inhibitory to the growth of S. Typhi, it appears that ferric ammonium citrate enhanced the growth of competitors which suppressed the growth of S. Typhi. These results demonstrate that UPI and UPF are effective for the recovery of S. Typhi from mamey.  相似文献

A rapid and inexpensive multiresidue method for determining pesticides in fruits and vegetables is presented. Extraction of a 15 g sample with 15 mL acetonitrile was followed by buffering with magnesium sulfate, sodium chloride, sodium citrate dihydrate, and disodium citrate. Acidification with formic acid prior to dispersive cleanup with aminopropyl sorbent and magnesium sulfate was used to stabilize base-sensitive pesticides such as chlorothalonil. Extracts were concentrated to 2 g/mL. Analyses were conducted by GC/ion trap detector MS, GC-halogen-specific detector, and LC/triple quadrupole MS. Accuracy and repeatability for 166 compounds in tomato, potato, and cabbage were 70-120% and <20% CV in 85% of the compounds, respectively. Reproducibility over a 4 month period in multiple commodities and analytical conditions was 62-124%, with CVs better than 30% for 91% of the compounds. Supply cost/sample was reduced 66%, and time to extract a batch of 24 samples was reduced by half compared to the prior method that used a 50 g sample, 100 mL acetonitrile, multiple SPE columns, and additional instrumentation. Additional extraction studies were conducted in tomatoes, oranges, and green beans at 4 g/mL using a GC/MS triple quadrupole system with a programmable temperature vaporization inlet. Recoveries of 70-120% were achieved in 93% of all compounds in green beans, 95% in tomatoes, and 97% in oranges.  相似文献

The Next Generation Science Standards emphasizes the inclusion of engineering practices throughout the K–12 science curriculum. Therefore, elementary educators need to be knowledgeable about engineering and engineering careers so that they can expose their students to engineering. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of engineering professional development on in‐service elementary teachers’: (a) knowledge and perceptions regarding engineering, and (b) self‐efficacy of teaching engineering. This quantitative study revealed that even one professional development opportunity can help to alleviate some misconceptions about the work of engineers and what constitutes technology, as well as increase teachers’ confidence to teach engineering concepts.  相似文献
