Equivalent cross-relaxation rate imaging positively correlates with pathological grade and cell density of adipocytic tumors

Objective

Equivalent cross-relaxation rate imaging (ECRI) is an MRI technique used to evaluate qualitative changes in protein-water interactions. We aimed to prospectively evaluate the utility of ECRI for classification of adipocytic tumors.

Materials and Methods

Institutional Review Board approval was obtained and all patients provided informed consent. Study participants included 40 patients with adipocytic tumors who were diagnosed with lipomas (n = 22), atypical lipomatous tissue/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDL; n = 9), myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (MyL; n = 6), and dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDL; n = 3), and 20 control patients for whom subcutaneous fat in the buttock or thigh was analyzed.

Results

Mean ECR values of lipomas, ALT/WDL, and subcutaneous fat were low, and those of MyL and DDL were high. Mean ECR values of MyL and DDL were significantly higher than those of ALT/WDL. The cut-off value was 5.1%. There was a positive correlation between ECR value, pathological grade, and cell density in adipocytic tumors.

Conclusion

The ECR value positively correlates with pathological grade and cell density of adipocytic tumors. Our findings suggest that ECRI is a useful method for preoperative evaluation of adipocytic tumors.     

Formation of tetrahydrocurcumin by reduction of curcumin with cultured plant cells of Marchantia polymorpha

Cultured plant cells of Marchantia polymorpha, Nicotiana tabacum, Phytolacca americana, Catharanthus roseus, and Gossypium hirsutum were examined for their ability to reduce curcumin. Only M. polymorpha cells converted curcumin into tetrahydrocurcumin in 90% yield in one day. Time-course experiment revealed a two-step formation of tetrahydrocurcumin via dihydrocurcumin.     

Synthesis and antimicrobial evaluation of some pyrazole derivatives

Reaction of a series of (E)-3-phenyl-4-(p-substituted phenyl)-3-buten-2-ones with p-sulfamylphenyl hydrazine in glacial acetic acid gave the corresponding hydrazones, subsequent treatment of which with 30% HCl afforded pyrazole-1-sulphonamides. On the other hand, refluxing of chalcones with either thiosemicarbazide or isonicotinic acid hydrazide in ethanol containing a few drops of acetic acid gave pyrazoline-1-thiocarboxamides and isonicotinoyl pyrazolines, respectively. The structures of the synthesized compounds were determined on the basis of their elemental analyses and spectroscopic data. The antimicrobial activity of the newly isolated heterocyclic compounds was evaluated against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. Most of the compounds showed a moderate degree of potent antimicrobial activity.     

Asymmetric synthesis of highly functionalized γ-lactams through an organocatalytic aza-Michael–Michael reaction cascade using fumaric acid amide esters as multi-reactive substrates

We developed a novel method for the asymmetric synthesis of highly functionalized γ-lactams through an organocatalytic aza-Michael–Michael reaction cascade using fumaric acid amide esters as multi-reactive substrates. Using chiral primary or secondary amine organocatalysts, we obtained two types of γ-lactams with three contiguous chiral centers in moderate to good yield with excellent enantioselectivity and diastereoselectivity.     

Curvatures properties of Lie hypersurfaces in the complex hyperbolic space

A Lie hypersurface in the complex hyperbolic space is a homogeneous real hypersurface without focal submanifolds. The set of all Lie hypersurfaces in the complex hyperbolic space is bijective to a closed interval, which gives a deformation of homogeneous hypersurfaces from the ruled minimal one to the horosphere. In this paper, we study intrinsic geometry of Lie hypersurfaces, such as Ricci curvatures, scalar curvatures, and sectional curvatures.     

A Versatile Synthesis,PM3‐Semiempirical,Antibacterial, and Antitumor Evaluation of Some Bioactive Pyrazoles

This research work describes the synthesis and biological properties of some novel isolated or fused heterocyclic ring systems with pyrazole, for example; enaminones containing pyrazolone ring photochromic functional unit, 4‐[(4‐chlorophenylamino)methylene]‐3‐methyl‐1‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazol‐5(4H)‐one (3) and some analogous derivatives 4, 9, and 10, also as pyrazolo[3,4‐b]pyridine, pyrazolo[3,4‐b]quinoline, pyrazolo[3′,4′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐c]pyrazoline and pyrazolo[3,4‐c]pyrazole were synthesized and characterized. Newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, mass spectral data and quantum mechanical calculations. Selected products were tested for their antibacterial and antitumor agents.     

Extreme points, support points and the Loewner variation in several complex variables

In this paper we consider extreme points and support points for compact subclasses of normalized biholomorphic mappings of the Euclidean unit ball Bn in Cn. We consider the class S0(Bn) of biholomorphic mappings on Bn which have parametric representation, i.e., they are the initial elements f (·, 0) of a Loewner chain f (z, t) = etz + ··· such that {e-tf (·, t)}t 0 is a normal family on Bn. We show that if f (·, 0) is an extreme point (respectively a support point) of S0(Bn), then e-tf (·, t) is an extreme point of S0(Bn) for t 0 (respectively a support point of S0(Bn) for t ∈[0, t0] and some t0 > 0). This is a generalization to the n-dimensional case of work due to Pell. Also, we prove analogous results for mappings which belong to S0(Bn) and which are bounded in the norm by a fixed constant. We relate the study of this class to reachable sets in control theory generalizing work of Roth. Finally we consider extreme points and support points for biholomorphic mappings of Bn generated by using extension operators that preserve Loewner chains.     

High-Pressure Metal-Free Catalyzed One-Pot Two-Component Synthetic Approach for New 5-Arylazopyrazolo[3,4-b]Pyridine Derivatives

An appropriate and efficient Q-tube-assisted ammonium acetate-mediated protocol for the assembly of the hitherto unreported 5-arylazopyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines was demonstrated. This methodology comprises the cyclocondensation reaction of 5-amino-2-phenyl-4H-pyrazol-3-one with an assortment of arylhydrazonals in an NH₄OAc/AcOH buffer solution operating a Q-tube reactor. This versatile protocol exhibited several outstanding merits: easy work-up, mild conditions, scalability, broad substrate scope, safety (the Q-tube kit is simply for pressing and sealing), and a high atom economy. Consequently, performing such reactions under elevated pressures and utilizing the Q-tube reactor seemed preferable for achieving the required products in comparison to the conventional conditions. Diverse spectroscopic methods and X-ray single-crystal techniques were applied to confirm the proposed structure of the targeted compounds.
