Über die Präparation und die Eigenschaften von Molybdän-Wolfram-Carbonitriden

Molybdenum-tungsten-carbonitrides can be prepared by reacting prealloyed powders of Mo and W with carbon in the presence of nitrogen or ammonia. Single phase carbonitrides (Mo, W) (C, N) with the WC-type structure can be obtained. The nitrogen content of these carbonitrides increases with increasing molybdenum content. Flowing ammonia has a decarburizing effect, which has to be counterbalanced by an addition of a carbonaceous gas such as methane. Nitrogen instead of ammonia is equally effective and gives carbonitrides which have a nitrogen content only insignificantly lower than the carbonitrides obtained in flowing ammonia. The lattice parameters of the carbonitrides are found to be slightly smaller than the lattice parameters of the corresponding carbides.

     

Interannular communication in the radical anions of bis-cyclooctatetraene systems

[reaction: see text] The room-temperature potassium reduction of 1,2-bis-cyclooctatetraeneoxypropane yields two different regio-spin isomer anion radicals in equilibrium (COT-O-C(Me)HCH(2)CH(2)-O-COT(*)(-) = (*)(-)COT-O-C(Me)HCH(2)CH(2)-O-COT) that is shifted far to the right. The presence of the unreduced ring perturbs the spin density on the reduced ring. Addition of more electrons generates the diradical dianion ((*)(-)COT-O-C(Me)HCH(2)CH(2)-O-COT(*)(-)), and the anion radical on the secondary side splits the degeneracy of the psuedo-ortho protons of the anion radical on the primary side.     

Reaction of Tetracopper(I)-Phosphonitocavitand with PhSeSiMe3: Synthesis and Structure of a Polyanionic Cluster [pyH]6[(CuCl)9(μ3-SePh)5(μ4-SePh)]

Treatment of tetracopper(I)-phosphonitocavitand [1·Cu₄(μ-Cl)₄(μ₄-Cl)] (2) (1 = tetraphosphonitocavitand [rccc-2,8,14,20-tetrakis-(iso-butyl)-phosphonitocavitand (C₄₄H₄₈O₈P₄Ph₄)]) with PhSeSiMe₃ in THF at low temperature afforded a novel polyanionic cluster [pyH]₆[(CuCl)₉(μ₃-SePh)₅(μ₄-SePh)] (4) as a major product along with a new tetracopper(I)-phosphonitocavitand (3) with a centered μ₃-Cl. Molecular structure of anionic cluster in 4 consists of six PhSe⁻ bridging ligands containing five μ₃-SePh and one exceptional μ₄-SePh bridging nine copper atoms, of which eight copper atoms have trigonal coordination geometry and the other has distorted tetrahedral geometry. Synthesis of the alkaloids julandine and ipalbidine-use of silicon (IV) chloride

Titanium (IV) chloride and silicon (IV) chloride with high oxygen affinity are the best Lewis acid catalysts, of a number tested, for cyclisation of an enamine-ketone (1) leading to the alkaloid, julandine (2); cyclisation of (6) in methanol solution without catalyst yields $\text{O}$-methylipalbidine (7) .     

Pyrrolopyrimidine nucleosides VII. A study on electrophilic and nucleophilic substitution at position six of certain pyrrolo[2,3-d] pyrimidine nucleosides

A study involving the reactivity of the pyrrolo[2,3-d] pyrimidine ring system at position 6 with another exocyclic group (CN or -NH₂) already residing at C5 has established that hydrogen and bromine are susceptible to electrophilic and acid-catalyzed nucleophilic substitution, respect-tively. In one instance a strong nucleophile (hydrazine) gave nucleophilic substitution at position 6 which was followed by a reaction with the o-nitrile group to afford the tricyclic nucleoside 4,5-diamino-8-(β-D-ribofuranosyl)pyrazolo[3′, 4′ :5,4] pyrrolo[2,3-d] pyrimidine (4).     

Detection of a biomarker for Alzheimer's disease from synthetic and clinical samples using a nanoscale optical biosensor

A nanoscale optical biosensor based on localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) spectroscopy has been developed to monitor the interaction between the antigen, amyloid-beta derived diffusible ligands (ADDLs), and specific anti-ADDL antibodies. Using the sandwich assay format, this nanosensor provides quantitative binding information for both antigen and second antibody detection that permits the determination of ADDL concentration and offers the unique analysis of the aggregation mechanisms of this putative Alzheimer's disease pathogen at physiologically relevant monomer concentrations. Monitoring the LSPR-induced shifts from both ADDLs and a second polyclonal anti-ADDL antibody as a function of ADDL concentration reveals two ADDL epitopes that have binding constants to the specific anti-ADDL antibodies of 7.3 x 10(12) M(-1) and 9.5 x 10(8) M(-1). The analysis of human brain extract and cerebrospinal fluid samples from control and Alzheimer's disease patients reveals that the LSPR nanosensor provides new information relevant to the understanding and possible diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.     

Structure cristalline et conformation en solution aqueuse de la carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine)

Carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine) is a biologically active molecule involved in muscular metabolism. It crystallises in the C; space group with a = 24.725 Å b = 5,427 Å c = 8,004 Å β = 100,2° (Z = 4)

In the crystal, acid and basic groups are engaged in hydrogen bonds whose strength is evaluated through IR frequencies. Molecular conformation in the solid state is defined by τ₁ = /t-177° τ₂ = −38° φ = −96° ψ = +131° χ₁ = 181° χ₂₁ = 62°

NMR study of carnosine in aqueous solution indicates that rotation about CH₂-CH₂ is free and that the other angles take the following values: Ø −150° or −90° and X₁ = 165° or 315°. Infrared and Raman spectra suggest that τ₂ undergoes small changes when going from crystal to solution while ψ is close to +150°.     

Resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization of molecular hydrogen via the E,F1Σg+ state: Photoelectron energy and angular distributions

Photoelectron energy and angular distributions are measured for the 2+1 multiphoton ionization process H₂ X¹Σ_g⁺ (ν = 0,J) + 2hv → E,F¹Σ_g⁺(ν_E,J_E = J) + hν → H₂⁺X²Σ_g⁺ (ν⁺) + e^?, for ν_E = 0, 1, or 2 and for J_E = 0 or 1 of the inner well of the double-minimum E,F state. Although a strong preference is found for ν⁺ = ν_E, the detailed H₂⁺ vibrational distribution does not exhibit Franck-Condon behavior, and the photoelectron angular distributions vary markedly with both the J_E value of the intermediate state and the ν⁺ value of the ion.     

On the structure of CH5+; A study of hydron transfer reactions from CH4H+ and CD4H+ tandem-ICR

Relative rates of proton and deuteron transfer from CH₄D⁺ and CD₄H⁺ to a number of molecules were examined in a tandem-ion cyclotron resonance instrument. The results were in conflict with the recent work of Sefcik et al. and support a randomized model.     

Potentiometric titration of milligram quantities of uranium in the presence of iron

A method is described for the potentiometric titration of milligram quantities of the uranium(IV) ion in the presence of iron. This is accomplished by complexing the iron with 1.10-phcnanthroline. The uranium can then be titrated with standard ceric sulfate without interference from the iron.
