Imidazolium salicylaldimine frameworks for the preparation of tridentate N-heterocyclic carbene ligands

Sterically hindered salicylaldimine functionalized imidazolium salts 2 have been prepared. The structures of the synthesized compounds were determined by spectroscopic techniques. The reaction of these salts containing arylmethyl-N chain (aryl: phenyl (2a), 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl (2b), 2,3,4,5,6-pentamethylphenyl (2c)) with Pd(OAc)₂ in boiling toluene afforded Pd(II) complexes 3 in high yields. The X-ray structure of 1-[3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-oxophenyl)propyliminato]-3-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzyl)imidazol-2-ylidenebromopalladium(II) (3b) has been determined. The Suzuki-Miyaura reaction was used to investigate their activity as catalysts either prepared in situ or from well-defined complexes. They are efficient when activated arylbromides are used as substrates.     

Novel C2-symmetric macrocycles bearing diamide-diester groups: synthesis and enantiomeric recognition for primary alkyl ammonium salts

We synthesized a series of novel macrocycles with diamide-diester groups (S,S)-1, (S,S)-2, (S,S)-3, and (R,R)-1, derived from dimethyloxalate and amino alcohols by high dilution technique, and evaluated enantiomeric recognition properties of these macrocycles toward primary alkyl ammonium salts by 1H NMR titration. Taking into account the host employed, important differences were observed in the Ka values of (R)-Am and (S)-Am for (S,S)-1 and (R,R)-1 hosts, KS/KR = 5.55 and KR/KS = 3.65, Delta Delta Go = 0.43 and -0.32 kJ mol-1, respectively. There seems a general tendency for the host to include the guests with the same absolute configuration.     

Co(II) and Cu(II) Schiff base complexes of bis(<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-(4-diethylamino-2-methylphenyl)-3,5-di-<Emphasis Type="Italic">tert</Emphasis>-butylsalicylaldimine): Electrochemical and X-ray structural study

Copper(II) and cobalt(II) complexes of salicylaldimine obtained by the condensation of N,N-diethyl-2-methyl-1,4-phenylenediamine with 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility measurements, cyclic voltammetry, and FT-IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The molecular structure of the title copper(II) complex was determined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The Cu(II) center is coordinated by four atoms of the donor set in a compressed tetrahedral trans-[N₂O₂] environment, which can be essentially ascribed to the presence of bulky fragments of the ligand. The computed bond valences of the copper verify +2 oxidation state and indicate that the copper bonds, in particular Cu–N bonds, are elongated due to steric effects from bulky substituents in the ligands, N-(4-diethylamino-2-methylphenyl). Intermolecular C–H···π interactions leading to centrosymmetric synthons serve to stabilize periodic organization of the molecules.     

Syntheses, characterization, antimicrobial and genotoxic activities of new Schiff bases and their complexes

Two new Schiff base ligands (L¹, L²) have been prepared from the reaction of 2,6-diacetylpyridine and 2-pyridinecarboxyaldehyde with 4-amino-2,3-dimethyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrozolin-5-on, and their Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), and Cr(III) metal complexes have also been prepared. The complexes are formed by coordination of N and O atoms of the ligands. Their structures were characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. The analytical data shows that the metal to ligand ratio in the Schiff base complexes is 1:2. The Schiff base ligands and all complexes were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities by the disc diffusion method. In addition, the genotoxic properties of the ligands were studied.     

Calculations of Isoelectronic Series of He Using Noninteger n‐Slater Type Orbitals in Single and Double Zeta Approximations

Using integer and noninteger n-Slater type orbitals in single- and double-zeta approximations, the Hartree-Fock-Roothaan calculations were performed for the ground states of first ten cationic members of the isoelectronic series of He atom. All the noninteger parameters and orbital exponents were fully optimized. In the case of noninteger n-Slater type orbitals in double zeta basis sets, the results of calculations obtained are more close to the numerical Hatree-Fock values and the average deviations of our ground state energies do not exceed 2×10^－6 hartrees of their numerical results.     

Degree of Approximation for Bivariate Chlodowsky–Szasz–Charlier Type Operators

We consider a combination of Chlodowsky polynomials with generalized Szasz operators involving Charlier polynomials. We give the degree of approximation for these bivariate operators by means of the complete and partial modulus of continuity, and also by using weighted modulus of continuity. Furthermore, we construct a GBS (Generalized Boolean Sum) operator of bivariate Chlodowsky–Szasz–Charlier type and estimate the order of approximation in terms of mixed modulus of continuity.     

Estimates for the real and imaginary parts of the eigenvalues of matrices and applications

This paper is a continuation of our recent work on the localization of the eigenvalues of matrices. We give new bounds for the real and imaginary parts of the eigenvalues of matrices. Applications to the localization of the zeros of polynomials are also given.     

The effect of topical ethanol extract of Cotinus coggygria Scop. on cutaneous wound healing in rats

The aim of this study is to determine the cutaneous wound healing effects of the ethanol extract of Cotinus coggygria leaves in rats by excision wound model to provide scientific evidence for the traditional use of C. coggygria Scop. The levels of malondialdehyde, catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione and hydroxyproline were investigated in wound tissues. Histopathological examination was also performed. The hydroxyproline content of the granulation tissue and the glutathione levels were both significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (p < 0.05 for both); while the malondialdehyde levels were significantly lower in the treatment group (p < 0.05). These results were supported with histological results. The ethanol extract of C. coggygria Scop could be considered as an effective agent in wound healing in accordance with its traditional use.
