Some results about the spectrum of commutative Banach algebras under the weak topology and applications

LetA be a commutative Banach algebra with a nonempty spectrum A. By weak we denote the relative weak topology induced on A by (A ^*,A ^**). In this note we study some properties of the topological space (A, weak) and present some applications of the results obtained and tools used to amenability, weakly compact homomorphisms, weakly compact subsets of the spectrum of the uniform algebras and to a characterization of the synthesizable ideals of the algebraA.     

Determination of iodide in drinking water by isotope dilution analysis

The most suitable way of determination iodine-deficiency is to measure iodine concentrations in water and urine. For this reason, a method that can determine iodide concentrations in drinking water and suitable for routine analysis, is developed. Water samples have been collected from four Aegean localities: Izmir, Salihli, Ödemis and Tire situated in the western Turkey. The method is based on substochiometric isotope dilution analysis. Iodile concentrations vary within 9.86–85.14 μg/l ranges in the analyzed samples. Mean value is 44.92±22.07 μg/l.     

Ultrafast dynamics of resonance energy transfer in cryptochrome

In this communication, we report the ultrafast dynamics of resonance energy transfer in a blue-light photoreceptor, Vibrio cholerae cryptochrome. The transfer was observed to occur in 60 ps. We also studied the local rigidity and solvation around the binding site of the photoantenna molecule. The results for the first time show energy transfer in cryptochrome suggesting some mechanistic similarities between photolyase that repairs damaged DNA and cryptochrome that mediates blue-light signaling.     

Study on labeling conditions of125I-synkavit by the iodogen method

Labeling conditions of synkavit (2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinol disodium phosphate) with iodine-125 have been studied. In this study, labeling temperature, reaction time, successive using of iodogen coated tubes, iodogen amount and synkavit concentrations have been determined to get optimum conditions for maximum labeling. Final results showed that when the labeling temperature, reaction time, synkavit concentration, and iodogen amount were, at room temperature, 15 min (in the case of successive using of three iodogen coated tubes), 2 mg ml^–1 and 5 mg, respectively; labeling yield was 90% and specific activities of the order of 555 GBq mmol^–1 (15 Ci mmol^–1) have been obtained.     

Binuclear and mononuclear cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of 4,4′-bis(alkylaminoisonitrosoacetyl)diphenyl-methane derivatives

4,4-Bis(chloroacetyl)diphenylmethane has been prepared from ClCH₂COCl and Ph₂CH₂. 4,4-Methylenebis(phenylglyoxylohydroximoyl chloride has also been obtained. Four new substituted 4,4-bis(alkylaminoisonitrosoacetyl)diphenylmethanes (ligands) have been prepared from 4,4-methylenebis(phenylglyoxylohydroximoyl chloride) and the corresponding amines. The Ni^II, Cu^II and Co^II complexes of these ligands were prepared and their structures were identified using AAS, i.r., ¹H-n.m.r. spectral data, elemental analyses and magnetic susceptibility measurements.     

Selective LC Determination of Cabergoline in the Bulk Drug and in Tablets: In Vitro Dissolution Studies

Cabergoline (CAB) is an ergot alkaloid derivative with dopamine agonist activity. A novel, simple, and rapid stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for assay of CAB in tablets has been developed and validated. Chromatography was performed on a 4.6 mm i.d. × 250 mm, 5 μm particle, cyano column with acetonitrile–10 mM phosphoric acid, 35:65 (v/v), containing 0.04% triethylamine, as mobile phase, at a flow rate of 1.0 mL min^?1, and UV detection at 280 nm. Response was a linear function of concentration in the range 0.1–4 μg mL^?1 (r ² = 0.9999). The recovery of the method was good (99.45%) and RSD values for intra-day and inter-day precision were 0.24–0.88% and 0.66–1.19%, respectively. The method can be used for quality-control assay of CAB in tablets, for stability studies, and for in vitro dissolution studies.     

Vibrational Spectroscopic Studies on the Hofmann-dabn-Type Benzene Clathrates: M(1,4-diaminobutane)Ni(CN)4° 1.5C6H6 (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni or Cd)

IR spectra of M(1,4-diaminobutane)Ni(CN)4° 1.5C6H6 (M = Mn, Fe, or Co), and IR and Raman spectra of M(1,4-diaminobutane)Ni(CN)4° 1.5C6H6 (M = Ni or Cd) clathrates are reported. The spectral features suggest that the compounds are similar in structure to the Hofmann-dabn-type clathrates.     

A boundary-value problem for Hamilton-Jacobi equations in hilbert spaces

We study a Hamilton-Jacobi equation in infinite dimensions arising in optimal control theory for problems involving both exit times and state-space constraints. The corresponding boundary conditions for the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, of mixed nature, have been derived and investigated in [19], [2], [5], and [15] in the finite-dimensional case. We obtain a uniqueness result for viscosity solutions of such a problem and then prove the existence of a solution by showing that the value function is continuous.The work of P. Die Sechseck-n-Waben in der Ebene,welche von n Kreisbüscheln erzeugt werden

In this paper, the problem of determining the pencils of circles which form a hexagonal n-web in E₂, is completely solved. It is well-known that n pencils of circles orthogonal to a fixed circle form a hexagonal n-web. Therefore, the main problem is the determination of all circle pencils which form a hexagonal n-web and which do not cut a fixed circle orthogonally. In this connection the following results have been obtained: The number of hexagonal 4-webs is six, whereas the number of hexagonal 5-webs is two.Finally, after having proved that the number of hexagonal 6-webs is one, it is shown that, for n7, there exist no circle pencils forming a hexagonal n-web without being orthogonal to a fixed circle.     

Immobilization of Mercuric reductase from aPseudomonas putida strain on different activated carriers

Mercuric reductase was isolated fromPseudomonas putida KT2442::mer-73 and immobilized on Chromatographic carriers activated by various methods. The immobilization methods for covalent coupling were compared with regard to preservation of enzymatic activity and coupling yields. Highest yields were obtained with carriers bearing the most reactive functional groups. Best results were achieved with tresyl chloride-activated carriers. The optimum binding conditions were found at pH 8. Application of the immobilized mercuric reductase for continuous treatment of Hg(II)-containing water was examined in a fixed bed reactor. Space-time yields up to 510 nmol/min-mL were attained. The kinetics of immobilized enzyme systems were not diffusion-controlled.
