Comment on “Quantum Signature Scheme with Weak Arbitrator”

This comment explains that the quantum signature scheme proposed by Ming-Xing Luo et al. (in Int. J. Theor. Phys. 51:2134, 2012) cannot satisfy the signature requirements. The comment presents methods of possible attacks by forgers, while also demonstrating that it is difficult to proceed by the normal protocol because of some errors in the formula of the scheme.     

Universal power-law decay of the impulse energy in granular protectors

Protecting a big impulse from outside is one of the important issues of our everyday life. A granular medium is often used as a protecting material. The impulse inside a granular medium is a solitary wave which may be confined temporarily to a particular region of the medium, which we call the granular container that plays the role of the protector. We find a universal power-law behavior in time for the leakage of the impulse energy confined inside various granular containers.     

Photoinduced charge injection in the metal/organic interface studied by transient photovoltage measurements with bias

Transient photovoltage of ITO/organic/Al cells is studied under different bias polarities and voltages.It is found that for an ITO/NPB/Al cell,light incidence on the Al side induces more bias-dependent transient photovoltage variation when the photovoltage is positive than when it is negative.However,for an ITO/C60 /Al cell,the variation characteristics of transient photovoltage is reversed.These results support the previously proposed mechanism that Al could inject charges into the organic layer upon photon excitation,indicating that the absorption of electrode can also contribute to photovoltaic effect.

Femtosecond laser-induced ZnSe nanowires on the surface of a ZnSe wafer in water

We present a simple route for ZnSe nanowire growth in the ablation crater on a ZnSe crystal surface. The crystal wafer, which was horizontally dipped in pure water, was irradiated by femtosecond laser pulses. No furnace, vacuum chamber or any metal catalyst were used in this experiment. The size of the nanowires is about 1-3 μm long and 50-150 nm in diameter. The growth rate is 1-3 μm/s, which is much higher than that achieved with molecular-beam epitaxy and chemical vapor deposition methods. Our discovery reveals a rapid and simple way to grow nanowires on designed micro-patterns, which may have potential applications in microscopic optoelectronics.     

Exchange coupled magnetic nanocomposites of Sm(Co1−xFex)5 / Fe3O4 with core/shell structure

Magnetic nanocomposites of Sm(Co_1−xFe_x)₅/Fe₃O₄ (x≈0.1) with the core/shell type structure were successfully fabricated using a two-step polyol process, where as-prepared SmCo_5(1−x) nanoparticles were used as seeds for the ferrite coating. The core/shell composites are quite stable in air and show a typical hysteric behavior of single component, yielding an enhanced coercivity of 2.2 kOe with a saturated magnetization of 130 emu/g at 5 T. The magnetization data clearly reveal the presence of effective exchange coupling between the hard-magnetic Sm(Co_1−xFe_x)₅ core and soft-magnetic Fe₃O₄ shell, suggestive of a single-phase structure rather than a distinctive two-phase one.     

Discrimination of basal cell carcinoma from normal dermal stroma by quantitative multiphoton imaging

We performed multiphoton fluorescence (MF) and second-harmonic generation (SHG) imaging on human basal cell carcinoma samples. In the dermis, basal cell carcinomas can be identified by masses of autofluorescent cells with relatively large nuclei and marked peripheral palisading. In the normal dermis, SHG from dermal collagen contributes largely to the multiphoton signal. However, within the cancer stroma, SHG signals diminish and are replaced by autofluorescent signals, indicating that normal collagen structures responsible for SHG have been altered. To better delineate the cancer cells and cancer stroma from the normal dermis, a quantitative MF to SHG index is developed. We demonstrate that this index can be used to differentiate cancer cells and adjacent cancer stroma from the normal dermis. Our work shows that MF and SHG imaging can be an alternative for Mohs' surgery in the real-time guidance of the secure removal of basal cell carcinoma.
