MECHANISM OF PHOTOREDUCTION OF THIAZINE DYES BY EDTA STUDIED BY FLASH PHOTOLYSIS-II. pH DEPENDENCE OF ELECTRON ABSTRACTION RATE CONSTANT OF THE DYES IN THEIR TRIPLET STATE

Abstract— The pH dependence of the apparent reactivity of thiazine dyes in their triplet states has been studied in aqueous solutions, using as electron donor HY^-3, the trianionic species of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), in the pH range 4–8. The pH dependence is found to be related to a change in the degree of protonation of the triplet excited dye. The apparent reactivity and lifetime of two differently protonated forms of thionine, azur B and methylene blue were determined by classical and dye-laser flash techniques, making it possible to evaluate the rate constant for electron abstraction of these molecules in their triplet states. It is found that: (a) protonation on the ring nitrogen increases the electron-abstraction rate constant of the triplet-state species about twenty-fold, and (b) methylation on the side amino groups decreases it.

Jod-spezifischer Detektor für einen Gas-Chromatographen

The In-flame detector earlier applied to the specific chlorine (359.9 nm) and bromine (372.7 nm) analysis has now been employed for the iodine determination at 409.9 nm. It is shown that the resolution power of a GC column can be improved by such a specific detector. After calibration quantitative measurements of the iodine contents of the GC fractions are possible. The detection limits are 0.01–1.4 μg of iodine.     

Étude thermodynamique de la complexation de l'argent par la thiourée et certains de ses derives alkylsubstitués

In order to find support for the validity of the hypothesis proposed by one of us regarding the different natures of the bonds in the four successive complexes formed between Ag⁺ and thiourea, the corresponding enthalpies are verified by direct calorimetry.Furthermore, because the influence of substituent groups on the nitrogen atoms may help to characterize the donor atom. the calorimetric enthalpies and potentiometric free energies of complexation between Ag⁺ and N-methylthiourea, N,N′- dimethylthiourea and N,N′-diethylthiourea have also been determined at 25°C, in aqueous medium of ionic strength μ = 0.5 M KNO₃.     

Synthesis of 4H-3,1-benzoxazin-4-ones and 4-(3H)quinazolinones from anthranilic acids and their derivatives by the use of triphenyl phosphite and pyridine

A series of 2-substituted 4H-3,1-benzoxazinones and 2,3-disubstituted 4-(3H)quinazolinones have been synthesized in mild conditions by the use of triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as cyclising medium. Benzox-azinones are produced either by ring closure of 2-(acylamino)benzoic acids or in the reaction of benzoic acid with anthranilic acids. In the presence of aniline, the reaction leads to quinazolinones.     

QUENCHING OF OXONINE EXCITED STATES BY EDTA VIA ELECTRON TRANSFER AND DEACTIVATION PROCESSES. A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF EXCITED SINGLET AND TRIPLET STATE REACTIVITY

The quenching of excited singlet oxonine by EDTA in aqueous solution leads mainly to deactivation of the dye to the ground state and, to a lesser extent, to electron abstraction. The rate constants for these processes have been measured and compared to those for the same reactions involving the oxonine triplet state. The rate constant of electron abstraction is about ten times greater via the singlet state than via the triplet state. However, the rate constant of deactivation to the ground state is 10³-10⁴ times greater for the excited singlet state than for the triplet state, so that the efficiency of electron transfer is much smaller for the singlet state.     

Neuere Entwicklungen der flammenphotometrischen Analysenverfahren

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, daß man durch Einsatz von reduzierenden Flammen, durch Einsatz von Chemiluminescenzvorgängen in Flammen, durch Atomabsorptionsverfahren, durch Modulations- und Differentiations-operationen eine Reihe von weiteren Elementen mit den schnellen und spezifischen Flammenmethoden analytisch gut erfassen kann. Hierbei wird insbesondere auf die Bestimmung von Spurenelementen in Mikroproben mit möglichst einfachen Mitteln eingegangen.

Summary It is demonstrated that one can grasp analytically well a series of further elements with the quick and specific flame methods by use of chemiluminescence processes in flames, by atomic absorption methods, by operations of modulation and differentiation. Hereby the determination of trace elements is specifically treated in microprobes with the most possible simple means.

Extraction du titane(IV) d'une phase aqueuse chlorhydrique par des mélanges de thénoyltrifluoroacétone—tri-n-butylphosphate et d'oxyde de tri-n-butylphosphine en solution dans le 1,2-dichloroethane

The extraction of titanium(IV) from hydrochloric acid solutions by thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) in the presence of tributylphosphate (TBP) or tri-n-butylphosphine oxide (TBPO) was studied in 1,2 dichloroethane. It is shown that there is a synergic effect because of the formation of a 1:1:1 HTTA—TBP (or TBPO)—Ti(IV) complex. The apparent stability constants of these complexes increase with the acidity of the aqueous phase.     

On semianalytic subsets of rigid analytic varieties

We show some topological properties of semianalytic subsets of rigid analytic varieties: curve selection lemma, the closure of a semianalytic subsetS is semianalytic, for every quasi-compact morphismf. As an application we show that a morphismf: X Y of rigid analytic varieties is open at a pointx X if and only if SpecO _X,x SpecO _Y,f(x) is surjective.
