Reductive transformations of Schiff bases in the synthesis of functionally substituted heteroaromatic amines

Schiff bases synthesized by condensation of 5- and 6-aminoquinolines, 5-amino-2-methylquinoline, nitroanilines, and pyrimidinylaminoanilines with substituted benzaldehydes and pyridinecarbaldehydes were reduced with sodium tetrahydridoborate in acetic acid to obtain the corresponding N-aryl(hetaryl)benzylamines, N-(pyridylmethyl)anilines, and N-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolyl)benzylamine derivatives. The reduction of arylhetarylimines with hydrazine hydrate in the presence of Raney nickel involved only the azomethine C=N bond, while the nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic ring remained intact. Under analogous conditions, nitrosubstituted Schiff bases and benzyl- and pyridylmethylamines were converted into previously unknown N-(aminobenzyl)quinolinamines and aryl(pyridyl)methyl-substituted phenylenediamines.     

Synthesis of new haloderivatives of benzo[<Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>]quinoline and 4,7-phenanthroline

By condensations of 2-naphthylamine and 6-aminoquinoline with halogen-substituted benzaldehydes, 3-acetylpyridine and acetophenone derivatives new 1,3-diaryl(heteryl)benzo-[f]quinolines and 4,7-phenanthrolines were synthesized containing atoms of fluorine, bromine, and chlorine in the phenyl rings.     

Phendione and anisylhydroresorcinol in the synthesis of 1,7-phenanthroline derivatives

Condensation of 5-phenyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione and 5-(p-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-cyclohexanedione with 5-quinolylamine and aldehydes of aromatic, heteroaromatic, and cyclohexene series provided new 7-aryl(heteryl, cyclohexenyl)-10-phenyl- or (p-methoxyphenyl)-7,10,11,12-tetrahydro-9H-benzo[b][1,7]phenanthrolin-8-ones containing two asymmetrical atoms C⁷ and C¹⁰. ¹H NMR spectroscopy revealed the presence of diastereomers in the target reaction products.     

Phendione in the Synthesis of Annelated Derivatives of 4,7-Phenanthroline

By condensation of 5-phenyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione with 6-quinolylamine and aldehydes of aromatic, heterocyclic, and cyclohexene series new 12-aryl(heteryl, cyclohexenyl)-9-phenyl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydro-7H-benzo[b][4,7]phenanthrolin-11-ones were prepared. Nonlinear optical phenomena at the interface with photorefractive crystals

Characteristics of nonlinear optical phenomena in reflection of light at the interface with photorfractive crystals having photovoltaic nonlinearity are studied. it is shown that under total reflection, hysteretic behavior of the reflection coefficient is possible as a function of the incident radiation intensity or the angle of incidence. It is important that previously required threshold intensities are rather low (≤1 W/cm²) in comparison with the known case of reflection from media with Kerr nonlinearity. The present results are of doubtless interest in view of the development of possible devices for controlling laser radiation. Synthesis of 4,7-Phenanthroline Derivatives by Condensation of Arylmethylene(6-quinolyl)amines with Hydroxy- and Nitro-substituted Acetophenone

Condensation of arylmethylene(6-quinolyl)amines with hydroxy- and nitro-substituted acetophenones was used to synthesize 1,3-diaryl-4,7-phenanthrolines containing hydroxy and nitro groups in the phenyl rings.     

Synthesis of new amides of the <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-methylpiperazine series

New carboxylic acid amides containing an N-methylpiperazine fragment were synthesized by reactions of 1-methylpiperazine or 3- and 4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-ylmethyl)aniline with 4-chlorobenzoyl chloride and of 4-methyl-3-nitroaniline with 4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-ylmethyl)benzoyl chloride or benzotriazol-1-yl 4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-ylmethyl)benzoate. 4-Chloro-N-[4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-ylmethyl)phenyl]benzamide reacted with imidazole, quinolin-5-amine, and 2-methylquinolin-5-amine to give substituted 4-amino-N-[4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-ylmethyl)phenyl]benzamides. 4-Methyl-3-nitrophenyl-4-methylpiperazin-1-yl-substituted benzamides were reduced with hydrazine hydrate over Raney nickel to obtain N-(3-amino-4-methylphenyl)-4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-ylmethyl)benzamide as key intermediate in the synthesis of antileukemic agent imatinib and its isomer with alternative position of the amide group, 4-[(3-amino-4-methylphenylamino)methyl]phenyl-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)methanone.
