Numerical simulations of liquid metal experiments on cosmic magnetic fields

Cosmic magnetic fields, including the fields of planets, stars, and galaxies, are produced by the hydromagnetic dynamo effect in moving electrically conducting fluids. They also play an active role in cosmic structure formation by enabling outward transport of angular momentum in accretion disks via the magnetorotational instability. The last 10 years have seen tremendous efforts in studying both effects in liquid metal experiments. This paper is focused on the numerical attempts that were undertaken to understand, optimize, and analyze those experiments.     

Dynamic synthesis of a macrocycle containing a porphyrin and an electron donor

New macrocycles incorporating a porphyrin and a [small pi] electron-rich aromatic were prepared from a dynamic disulfide library. The outcome could be influenced by use of templates.     

Single-molecule surface enhanced resonance Raman spectroscopy of the enhanced green fluorescent protein

In the present contribution, we demonstrated that surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering spectra from single green fluorescent proteins (GFPs) were obtained. The most important findings are the direct detection of the conversion between a deprotonated and a protonated form of the chromophore at the single-molecule level via the corresponding vibrational fingerprints, and the fact that the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) also shows a high surface enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) signal. Our findings show the potential of the technique to study structural dynamics of protein molecules at a single-molecule level.     

Complete suppression of neoclassical tearing modes with current drive at the electron-cyclotron-resonance frequency in ASDEX upgrade tokamak

Noninductive current drive has been performed in the tokamak ASDEX upgrade by injection of radiofrequency waves at the second harmonic of the electron-cyclotron frequency in order to suppress unwanted disturbances of the magnetic-field configuration. The current has been driven parallel [co-electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD)] and antiparallel (counter-ECCD) to the plasma current to compare the effect of heating with direct current drive in the magnetic island. For the first time it has been shown experimentally that total stabilization of neoclassical tearing modes is possible with co-ECCD. The experiments verify the role of direct current drive as opposed to local heating.     

Darstellung skalarer und vektorwertiger Distributionen aus D′Lp durch Randwerte holomorpher Funktionen

In the present paper we show that every distribution T in D′_Lp (D′_Lp(E) in the vector-valued case) has a representation as boundary value of a holomorphic function T (with values in E). This problem was considered in [1], [5], [12]. The representing functions are characterized by growth conditions. It is shown that the conditions in [1] and [5] don't extend to the vector-valued case while the conditions in [12] do.
