We investigate the difference between using an ?1 penalty versus an ?1 constraint in generalized eigenvalue problems arising in multivariate analysis. Our main finding is that the ?1 penalty may fail to provide very sparse solutions; a severe disadvantage for variable selection that can be remedied by using an ?1 constraint. Our claims are supported both by empirical evidence and theoretical analysis. Finally, we illustrate the advantages of the ?1 constraint in the context of discriminant analysis and principal component analysis. Experimental and theoretical aspects of the condensation of glycerol and its homologs (1,2,3- and 1,2,4-butanetriols) with formaldehyde and acetone are studied under conditions of acid catalysis. Calculation of the thermodynamic parameters of the resulting products by the composite method CBS-QB3 shows that the six-membered heterocycles, the products of the interaction of triols with formaldehyde, are thermodynamically more stable than the five-membered acetals, while the reaction of the same triols with acetone is preferable for the formation of the five-membered acetals. This is due to the fact that the regioselectivity of the studied reactions is determined by the structural features and reactivity of the carbocations formed in a condensed medium during the course of the reaction. According to the theoretical data obtained experimentally, during the condensation of glycerol and 1,2,4-butanetriol with formaldehyde in the most stable form of the six-membered cyclic carbocation, intramolecular hydrogen bonding and anomeric stabilization due to the axially oriented hydroxyl group take place. As a result, cation 1b–1 is 1.2–1.6 kJ/mol more stable than its five-membered isomers ( 1a–1 and 1b–2 ). It leads to the predominant formation of 1,3-dioxane ( 3b ). However, upon condensation of butanetriol-1,2,3 with formaldehyde, the intermediate cation 4a–1 turns out to be significantly more stable than the other isomers due to the strong intramolecular hydrogen bond in the six-membered ring with the participation of the hydroxyl group of the substituent and the hydroxyl group of the cationic center, leading to the predominant formation of the dioxolane 6a . 相似文献

The influence of counterions on the surface properties of N-lauryl diisopropanolamine surfactants is delineated using conductometry and surface tension measurements. Twelve types of organic counterions have been studied: C1–C12 monocarboxylic acids anions. The surface properties of the synthesized surfactants, including surface tension, critical micelle concentration (CMC), effectiveness (πCMC), efficiency (pC20), maximum surface excess (Γmax), minimum surface area (Amin), Gibbs energy of micellization (ΔGmic), and adsorption (ΔGad) processes in the aqueous. The biodegradability of the prepared surfactants was tested in river water using the die-away method. Petroleum-collecting and petroleum-dispersing capacities of the synthesized compounds on the surface of water of varying mineralization degree have been studied. 相似文献

Abstract Phosphorus (111) containing dcrivatives of salicylic acid easily react with carbonyl compounds with formation of cycloexpansion products - 1,3,2- or 1,4,2-dioxaphosphepines. For the first time we have shown that dialkyl-l-oxólkylphosphonates react with 2-R-4-oxo-5,5-benzo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinanes and yield 1,3,2-dioxaphosphepines (I) with high stereoselectivity. The configuration of the preferable diastereoisomer (IId) has been determined by X-ray analysis. The hydrolysis of compounds (IIa-c) leads to formation of 2-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphepines (III). The structure of phosphepine (IIIb) in crystal is shown on the figure. A study of specific interactions between lectins and glycoproteins has been carried out using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) in a flow-injection mode. Lectins were covalently immobilised on the surfaces of the microfluidic sensor chip via amine coupling and serum glycoproteins were injected into the flow channels. Specific lectin-glycoprotein interactions caused the shift of refractive index proportional to the mass concentration accumulated on the channel surface. Lectins showed different affinity to the tested glycoproteins and each glycoprotein displayed its own lectin-binding pattern. It is possible to distinguish and identify even glycoproteins with similar sugar structures by simple and quick screening. The working conditions of the assay were optimised. The lectin-based SPR made it possible to carry out the label-free detection of glycoproteins within a broad concentration range with a good linearity. Regeneration conditions for the surface of the sensor chip were found and optimised. Combination of 10 mM HCl and 10 mM glycine-HCl (pH 2.5) removes the bound glycoproteins from the lectin surface without damaging it. The kinetic and affinity parameters of lectin-glycoprotein binding were evaluated. The proposed method was tested on human glycosylated serum. Combination of the lectin panel with SPR is suitable both for specific screening and for sensitive assay of serum glycoproteins. 相似文献

Hydroalumination‐brominolysis of vinylacetylenic alcohols 1 – 4 provides a novel entry to synthetically useful (E)‐ and (Z)‐bromoalkadienols, and bromoallenols, which are otherwise hardly accessible. An electrophilic cleavage of cyclic intermediate A follows competing mechanistic pathways, giving rise to isomeric (Z)‐bromodienols 5 – 8 and allenic alcohols 9 – 12 . The latter are stereoselectively converted to (E)‐bromoalkadienols 13 – 16 by CuBr‐catalyzed anionotropic rearrangement. 相似文献
