Interferences in ultratrace speciation of organolead and organotin by gas chromatography with atomic spectrometric detection

Interferences in trace and ultratrace speciation analysis of organotin and organolead compounds in various samples by gas chromatography coupled with atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and/or microwave induced plasma atomic emission spectrometry (MIP AES) are investigated. Particular attention is given to the effects of matrix co-extractives and reagents impurities introduced during sample preparation. Their influence on the detection limits is discussed in terms of baseline noise level, blank value, formation of artefacts and signal suppression. Loss of column resolution during the analysis of some matrices is observed.     

Formation and thermal decomposition of aluminium nitroxy compounds

During the reactions of lithium oxide with aluminium nitride, and of lithium nitride with aluminium oxide, the formation has been observed of a previously unknown compound, of composition Li₂AlNO. The course of its thermal decomposition has also been determined.

Zusammenfassung Es wurde das Auftreten einer bisher unbekannten Verbindung der Zusammensetzung LiAlNO bei den Reaktionen von Lithiumoxid mit Aluminiumnitrid und Lithiumnitrid mit Aluminiumoxid beobachtet. Der Verlauf der thermischen Zersetzung dieser Verbindung wurde bestimmt.

Gold Nanoparticles as Effective ion Traps in Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Cross-Linked by Metal-Ligand Coordination

At this time, the development of advanced elastic dielectric materials for use in organic devices, particularly in organic field-effect transistors, is of considerable interest to the scientific community. In the present work, flexible poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) specimens cross-linked by means of ZnCl₂-bipyridine coordination with an addition of 0.001 wt. %, 0.0025 wt. %, 0.005 wt. %, 0.04 wt. %, 0.2 wt. %, and 0.4 wt. % of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were prepared in order to understand the effect of AuNPs on the electrical properties of the composite materials formed. The broadband dielectric spectroscopy measurements revealed one order of magnitude decrease in loss tangent, compared to the coordinated system, upon an introduction of 0.001 wt. % of AuNPs into the polymeric matrix. An introduction of AuNPs causes damping of conductivity within the low-temperature range investigated. These effects can be explained as a result of trapping the Cl⁻ counter ions by the nanoparticles. The study has shown that even a very low concentration of AuNPs (0.001 wt. %) still brings about effective trapping of Cl⁻ counter anions, therefore improving the dielectric properties of the investigated systems. The modification proposed reveals new perspectives for using AuNPs in polymers cross-linked by metal-ligand coordination systems.     

Formation of Chiral β-Silyl-Vinyl Ethers

Chiral formates derived from propane-1,2-diol, 1,2- O -isopropylidene- f - D -xylo- and f - D -gluco-furanoses were subjected to treatment with cyclopentadienyl [tris(trimethylsilylmethyl)] titanium (IV). A mixture of the corresponding ( E )- and ( Z )- g -silylvinyl ethers were obtained with predominance of the former. It was found that in contrast to ( Z )-vinyl ethers, which give g -lactams with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate, the ( E )-vinyl ethers gave unstable cycloadducts which undergo rapid elimination reaction leading to ( E )- f , g -unsaturated amides.     

The Mechanism of Reaction between Poly(vinyl Alcohol) and Phosphorous Acid

The reaction mechanism of phosphorous acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) is presented. It has been found that there during this reaction mono- and diesters are formed in which most of the acid radicals are in the phosphonic form. To confirm the presence of this form in the product obtained, reactions with diethyleneamine and chloral have been carried out as characteristic tests for phosphonic groups. The occurrence of C—P bonds resistant to hydrolysis has been also found in the reaction product.     

Stereocontrolled Organocatalytic Strategy for the Synthesis of Optically Active 2,3‐Disubstituted cis‐2,3‐Dihydrobenzofurans

An intramolecular, organocatalyzed Michael addition has been developed to obtain biologically important 2,3‐disubstituted cis‐2,3‐dihydrobenzofurans. By using mandelic acid salts of primary aminocatalysts, derived from cinchona alkaloids, the intramolecular cyclization reaction has been developed to proceed in high yield, with moderate to good diastereoselectivity, and up to 99 % ee. Based on the absolute configuration of the formed 2,3‐disubstituted‐cis‐2,3‐dihydrobenzofurans and by considering the observed substrate scope restrictions, a mechanistic rationalization has been presented.     

Synthesis,mesogenic and dielectric properties of fluorosubstituted isothiocyanatoterphenyls

The synthesis, mesomorphic and physical properties of 14 homologous series of laterally fluorinated 4?-alkyl-4-isothiocyanatoterphenyls were described. Influence of the number of fluorine atoms and their position in the terphenyl core on the phase transition temperatures, nematic range, dielectric and optic anisotropy as well as bulk viscosity were discussed. The compounds with the most optimal properties for formulation of nematic mixtures were selected, and mixture examples with low viscosity and medium or high birefringence were presented.
