We report external cavity second-harmonic generation of light at 544 and 272 nm based on an ytterbium-doped distributed-feedback fiber laser. The nonlinear crystal used to generate light at 544 nm is LiNbO3, and the maximum output of the cavity is 845 mW, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 55%. In a second frequency-doubling step, using a beta-BaBa2O4 crystal, we generate up to 115 mW of light at 272 nm with a conversion efficiency of 14%. 相似文献

In “The Reappearing Act” István Aranyosi postulates a new way of seeing to solve a puzzle posed in “The Disappearing Act;” an object that is exactly shaded can be seen simply by virtue of its contrast with its environment – just like a shadow. This object need not reflect, refract, absorb or block light. To undermine the motive for this heretical innovation, I generalize the puzzle to situations involving inexact shading. Aranyosi cannot extend his solution to these variations because he needs to conserve principles of camouflage. On the bright side, the solution to the puzzle that I propose in my book Seeing Dark Things does extend to these variations. 相似文献

Although there has been a lot of work on the development of microchemical processing systems such as micro-reactors and micro-sensors, little attention has been paid to micro-separation units, and in particular, microscale distillation. In this paper, various silicon-glass microscale distillation chips with different channel configurations were fabricated and tested. A temperature gradient was setup across the chip by heating and cooling the two ends. The feed was located at the middle of the microchannel. Arrays of micropillars were incorporated in order to guide the liquid flow. It was found that the separation performance was promoted by increasing the length of the microchannel. However, this created an imbalance of the liquid flows at the two sides of the microchannel and caused flooding. This hydrodynamic limitation was addressed by incorporating micropillars on both sides of the channel. The most efficient microdistillation chip consisted of a microchannel with 600 microns width and 40 cm length. Experimental results showed high efficiency for the separation of a 50 mol% acetone-water mixture when the heating and cooling temperature were 95 °C and 42 °C respectively. The concentrations of acetone were 3 mol% in the bottom stream and 95 mol% in the distillate, which was equivalent to at least 4 equilibrium stages at total reflux conditions. Furthermore, a 50 mol% methanol-toluene mixture was separated into nearly pure toluene in the bottom stream and 75 mol% methanol in the distillate. The biocatalytic versatility of wildtype and engineered carboxymethylproline synthases (CMPSs) is demonstrated by the preparation of functionalized 5-carboxymethylproline derivatives methylated at C-2, C-3, C-4, or C-5 of the proline ring from appropriately substituted amino acid aldehydes and malonyl-coenzyme A. Notably, compounds with a quaternary center (at C-2 or C-5) were prepared in a stereoselective fashion by engineered CMPSs. The substituted-5-carboxymethyl-prolines were converted into the corresponding bicyclic β-lactams using a carbapenam synthetase. The results demonstrate the utility of the crotonase superfamily enzymes for stereoselective biocatalysis, the amenability of carbapenem biosynthesis pathways to engineering for the production of new bicyclic β-lactam derivatives, and the potential of engineered biocatalysts for the production of quaternary centers. 相似文献
