Gamma-spectroscopic investigations on 67Ge

By γ-γ coincidence measurements following the ⁵⁷Fe(¹²C, 2nγ) reaction at E_12C = 40 MeV several new states above 1.5 MeV excitation energy in ⁶⁷Ge have been established. Spin and parity assignments on the basis of the angular distribution, linear polarization and γ-ray yield function indicate very similar structures in ^{67, 69}Ge. The positive-parity states can be followed up to the $\text{17}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{+}}$ state at E_x = 3.07 MeV followed by a sequence of negative-parity high-spin states at nearly the same excitation energy relative to the $\text{9}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{+}}$ single-particle state as in the neighbouring nucleus ⁶⁹Ge where these states were found to have strong single-particle admixtures. A reinvestigation of the spin of the E_x = 2.75 MeV level in ⁶⁹Ge resulting in a change of its spin from $\text{15}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{+}}\text{to}\text{17}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{+}}$ and for all spins above, removed the discrepancy concerning the spin assignments of corresponding levels in ^{67, 69}Ge. The excitation pattern of the Ge isotopes with 34 ≦ N ≦ 39 clearly indicate same structures probably due to the strong competition between collective and single-particle excitations along the whole chain similar to the results for the Zn isotopes.

Lifetime measurements in70Se and72Se

Mean lives and limits of lifetimes have been determined for some ten mostly yrast states in⁷⁰Se, by means of the recoil distance Doppler shift technique. The states were excited in the reaction⁴⁰Ca(³⁶Ar,α2p) at 115 MeV resp. the reaction⁵⁸Ni(¹⁴N,pn) at 39 MeV beam energy. The systematic decrease ofB(E2) values along the the ground band transitions indicates a band crossing consistent with theγ-ray energies. Effects of continuum feeding times in both reactions are being discussed. The lifetimes of the lowest three yrast transitions in⁷²Se have been remeasured by means of the reactions⁴⁰Ca(³⁶Ar,4p) and⁶⁰Ni(¹⁴N,pn).     

Local diameters of compact planar sets

Given a compact setS?E² andP ₁ εS, we consider sequencesP _i , 1<i<∞, such that $$h_i : = \left\| {P_i - P_{i + 1} } \right\| = \mathop {\max }\limits_{R \in S} \left\| {P_i - R} \right\|$$ . Callh=limh _i a local diameter ofS. It is realized by a line segmentPQS. In relation toD(S), the ordinary diameter ofS, we determine (with and without certain angular constraints) how smallh can be. For example, ifA, B ε S and the line segmentAB is a diameter ofS, we determine best possible lower bounds for ∥P?Q∥/∥A?B∥ in terms of the smallest angle formed by the lines extendingPQ andAB. Local diameters arise from the problem of computing generalized transfinite diameters. Moreover, information about local diameters provides both upper and lower bounds on the isoperimetric quotient ofS.
