Calculations are carried out to determine elastic-scattering cross sections and resonance energies for low-energy electron impact on uracil and on each of the DNA bases (thymine, cytosine, adenine, and guanine), for isolated molecules in their equilibrium geometry. Our calculations are compared with the available theory and experiment. We also attempt to correlate this information with experimental dissociation patterns through an analysis of the temporary anion structures that are formed by electron capture in shape resonances.  相似文献

Solution-grown zinc oxide nanowires   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We review two strategies for growing ZnO nanowires from zinc salts in aqueous and organic solvents. Wire arrays with diameters in the nanoscale regime can be grown in an aqueous solution of zinc nitrate and hexamethylenetetramine. With the addition of poly(ethylenimine), the lengths of the wires have been increased to 25 mum with aspect ratios over 125. Additionally, these arrays were made vertical by nucleating the wires from oriented ZnO nanocrystals. ZnO nanowire bundles have been produced by decomposing zinc acetate in trioctylamine. By the addition of a metal salt to the solution, the ZnO wires can be doped with a range of transition metals. Specifically, ZnO nanowires were homogeneously doped with cobalt and showed a marked deviation from paramagnetic behavior. We conclude by highlighting the use of these solution-grown nanowire arrays in dye-sensitized solar cells. The nanowire cells showed an improvement in the charge collection efficiency over traditional nanoparticle cells.  相似文献

This article focuses on the synthesis and the crystal chemistry of six members of a series of rare-earth metal based germanides with general formula RELiGe(2) (RE = La-Nd, Sm, and Eu). The structures of these compounds have been established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (CaLiSi(2) structure type, space group Pnma, Z = 4, Pearson symbol oP16). The chemical bonding within this atomic arrangement can be rationalized in terms of anionic germanium zigzag chains, conjoined via chains of edge-shared LiGe(4) tetrahedra and separated by rare-earth metal cations. The structure can also be viewed as an intergrowth of AlB(2)-like and TiNiSi-like fragments, or as the result of the replacement of 50% of the rare-earth metal atoms by lithium in the parent structure of the REGe monogermanides. Except for LaLiGe(2) and SmLiGe(2), the remaining four RELiGe(2) phases exhibit Curie-Weiss paramagnetism above about 50 K. In the low temperature regime, the localized 4f electrons in CeLiGe(2), PrLiGe(2), and SmLiGe(2) order ferromagnetically, while antiferromagnetic ordering is observed for NdLiGe(2) and EuLiGe(2). The calculated effective magnetic moments confirm RE(3+) ground states in all cases excluding EuLiGe(2), in which the magnetic response is consistent with Eu(2+) configuration (J = S = 7/2). The experimental results have been complemented by tight-binding linear muffin-tin orbital (TB-LMTO) band structure calculations.  相似文献

An automated procedure has been developed for detecting and localizing frequency-modulated bowhead whale sounds in the presence of seismic airgun surveys. The procedure was applied to four years of data, collected from over 30 directional autonomous recording packages deployed over a 280 km span of continental shelf in the Alaskan Beaufort Sea. The procedure has six sequential stages that begin by extracting 25-element feature vectors from spectrograms of potential call candidates. Two cascaded neural networks then classify some feature vectors as bowhead calls, and the procedure then matches calls between recorders to triangulate locations. To train the networks, manual analysts flagged 219 471 bowhead call examples from 2008 and 2009. Manual analyses were also used to identify 1.17 million transient signals that were not whale calls. The network output thresholds were adjusted to reject 20% of whale calls in the training data. Validation runs using 2007 and 2010 data found that the procedure missed 30%-40% of manually detected calls. Furthermore, 20%-40% of the sounds flagged as calls are not present in the manual analyses; however, these extra detections incorporate legitimate whale calls overlooked by human analysts. Both manual and automated methods produce similar spatial and temporal call distributions.  相似文献

Fusion cross-sections for the 7Li + 12C reaction have been measured at energies above the Coulomb barrier by the direct detection of evaporation residues. The heavy evaporation residues with energies below 3 MeV could not be separated out from the α-particles in the spectrum and hence their contribution was estimated using statistical model calculations. The present work indicates that suppression of fusion cross-sections due to the breakup of 7Li may not be significant for 7Li + 12C reaction at energies around the barrier.  相似文献

Transverse energy distributions have been measured for collisions of 10 GeV/nucleon Si with targets of Al, Cu and Pb using a combination of a NaI wall and a uranium based sampling calorimeter. The measured cross sectionsdσ/dE T anddE T /dη are consistent with full stopping and an increase, with increasing values ofE T , of energy flow into large angles.  相似文献

Interest in the study of the behavior of shallow impurity centers in superlattices and quantum well structures is fairly recent. This paper reviews briefly both the theoretical and experimental work done in this field in the last few years. Several recent calculations of the energy levels of hydrogenic impurity states in quantum well structures, such as Ga1?xAlxAsGaAsGa1?xAlxAs, are reviewed. The behavior of these levels as a function of the quantum well size is discussed. Recent experimental data concerning the variations of the binding energies of shallow donors and acceptors as a function of the GaAs quantum well size are reviewed. A comparison between these experimental measurements and the results of recent calculations is presented.  相似文献

The alternating step generator is a well-known keystream generator consisting of two stop/go clocked LFSRs, LFSR1 and LFSR2, whose clocks are controlled by another LFSR, LFSR3, which is clocked regularly. A probabilistic analysis of this generator is conducted which shows that the posterior probabilites of individual bits of the first derivatives of the regularly clocked LFSR1 and LFSR2 sequences, when conditioned on a given segment of the first derivative of the keystream sequence, can be computed efficiently in a number of probabilistic models of interest. The expected values of these probabilities, for a random keystream sequence, are derived by an approximate theoretical analysis and are also verified by systematic computer experiments. It is pointed out that these posterior probabilities can be enhanced in a resynchronization scenario and thus used for a low-complexity fast correlation attack on the two LFSRs. More generally, it is argued that even without resynchronization these probabilities may be significantly different from one half for fast correlation attacks based on iterative decoding algorithms to be successful, although with incresead complexity. A related method for computing the posterior probabilities of individual bits of the LFSR3 sequence, when conditioned on both the keystream sequence and the LFSR1 and LFSR2 sequences, is also developed. As these posterior probabilities are much more different from one half, they can be used for a low-complexity fast correlation attack on LFSR3, provided that the initial states of LFSR1 and LFSR2 are previously reconstructed.  相似文献
