A study of coupling conditions in sub-threshold fission of Np by means of gamma-ray spectra

Neutron radiative capture at ²³⁷Np resonances has been studied with Ge(Li) and NaI detectors. From the observed spectra it is concluded that the intermediate structure in sub-threshold fission of ²³⁷Np is due to broad intermediate states with very small spreading width.     

Band structure effects in high energy ion beam surface interaction at grazing incidence

The analysis of charge state distributions after the interaction of fast Li- and N-ions with a surface at grazing incidence at energies between 50 and 350 keV yields for Li a strongly suppressed and for N an enhanced fraction of neutrals in comparison to the beam-foil interaction. These findings are supported by corresponding alkali-spectra which are dominated by lines from transitions in singly ionized atoms. The experiments are consistently interpreted in terms of a two step model: (1) collisional excitation in the close vicinity of the surface and (2) modification of this population by resonant electron transfer from (to) non localized states in the conduction (valence) band to (from) the ion. The model is also applied to interpret recent beam-foil experiments where preferential populations of Rydberg levels in highly ionized atoms were found.     

The rotational bands 12+[411]and 12−[541]in 175Lu

In a study of the γ-radiation emitted in the reaction ¹⁷⁶Yb(p, 2n) excited states of the nucleus ¹⁷⁵Lu up to spin I = $\text{13}\text{2}$ have been investigated. The main results concern the rotational bands $\text{1}\text{2}$⁺ [411]and $\text{1}\text{2}$^? [541]with the corresponding band heads found at 626.60 and 370.88 keV, respectively. The half-life of the $\text{1}\text{2}$⁺[411] level has been determined to be $\text{T}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}\text{= 10.7±0.5}\text{ns}$. Furthermore, the band heads $\text{3}\text{2}$^?[532]and $\text{3}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{+}}$[411]are proposed at energies of 999.0 and 1150.8 keV, respectively. Experimental E1 transition probabilities between both $\text{K =}\text{1}\text{2}$ bands are compared with calculations including the Coriolis and pairing effects, as well as theoretically deduced quadrupole deformation parameters.     

Nuclear polarized7Li and14N ions via ion beam surface interaction at grazing incidence

Using singly or doubly reflected 270keV-ions from a Cu-surface at grazing incidence nuclear polarizations in⁷Li ofP _I=(6.8±0.6) % orP _I= (11.5±1.0) % and in¹⁴N ofP _I =(14.8±1.0) % orP _I=(20.0±1.0) % respectively, have been achieved.     

Coupled channels approach to the deuteron break-up in the field of a nucleus

The elastic scattering and break-up of the deuteron in the field of a nucleus is formulated in terms of coupled differential equations together with correct boundary conditions. Cross sections for the two processes are given in terms of the scattering coefficients. An approximate treatment of the Coulomb distortion in the break-up channel is suggested.     

Carbon-13 substituent chemical shifts of 4-substituted bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-1-yl cyanides

The carbon-13 substituent chemical shifts of 4-substituted bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-1-yl cyanides are a linear function of the substituent inductive parameters.
