Total synthesis of the novel antifungal agent (+/-)-jesterone

A total synthesis of the novel, biologically active epoxyquinone natural product (+/-)-jesterone has been accomplished from the readily accessible Diels-Alder adduct of cyclopentadiene and prenylated-p-benzoquinone. The approach delineated here is notable for its conceptual simplicity and efficient orchestration of a series of chemo-, regio-, and stereoselective operations. [reaction: see text]

A biomimetic total synthesis of bioactive tetracyclic natural product allomicrophyllone has been achieved in which a protective Diels-Alder reaction employing a disposable sacrificial 1,3-diene directs the regioselectivity of the subsequent Diels-Alder reaction.     

Application of [3 + 2]-Cycloaddition in the Synthesis of Valdecoxib

A large scale synthesis of valdecoxib 1 is described. Our work features potential application of [3 + 2]-dipolar cycloaddition involving enamine and in situ–generated nitrile oxide derivatives.     

Efficient Role of Ionic Liquid (bmim)HSO4 as Novel Catalyst for Monotetrahydropyranylation of Diols and Tetrahydropyranylation of Alcohols

A simple procedure for the monotetrahydropyranylation of diols and alcohols, in excellent to moderate yields, has been reported using a catalytic amount of the acidic ionic liquid, 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium hydrogensulphate (bmim)HSO₄ under microwave and ultrasonic irradiation. Results have been compared with those obtained by reactions in the absence of these energies, and effectiveness of the recycled ionic liquid has also been studied.     

Synthesis of Some Novel Heteropolyquinanes

Synthesis of structurally novel aza-and oxa-polyquinanes from the abundantly available cis,syn,cis-triquinane dione 1 via transannular nucleo-phillc additions is reported.
