Recent synthetic methodologies for pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine

The development of new synthetic routes towards pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines for their biological and medicinal exploration is an attractive area for researchers. This review focuses on various synthetic routes developed in the last decade for the synthesis of differently substituted pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines by a broad range of organic reactions by means of 5-aminopyrazole as a precursor.     

Oxygen Vacancy Diffusion and Condensation in Lithium‐Ion Battery Cathode Materials

Oxygen vacancies (OV) are native defects in transition metal (TM) oxides and their presence has a critical effect on the physicochemical properties of the oxide. Metal oxides are commonly used in lithium‐ion battery (LIB) cathodes and there is still a lack of understanding of the role of OVs in LIB research field. Here, we report on the behavior of OVs in a single‐crystal LIB cathode during the non‐equilibrium states of charge and discharge. We found that microcrack evolution in a single crystal occurs due to OV condensation in specific crystallographic orientations generated by the continuous migration of OVs and TM ions. Moreover, understanding the effects of the presence and diffusion of OVs in metal oxides enables the elucidation of most of the conventional mechanisms of capacity fading in LIBs and provides new insights for new electrochemical applications.     

A systematic study of 3NF effects in p + d break-up with BINA at 190 MeV

A systematic study of three-nucleon force (3NF) effects in break-up reactions has been carried out at KVI at several energies. In this article, the p + d → p + p + n reaction with a polarized-proton beam of 190?MeV will be discussed. The experiment was performed by exploiting a new detector called BINA. Some results for high-precision vector analyzing powers and differential cross sections are presented and compared with state-of-the-art Faddeev calculations with or without 3NF.     

Synthesis and in vitro anticancer activity of some novel cyclohepta[b]thiophene-3-carboxamides bearing pyrazole moiety

2-Aminothiophene 3 was achieved through the one-pot multicomponent reaction of cycloheptanone, cyanoacetamide, elemental sulfur, and morpholine in ethanol. Diazotization of 2-aminothiophene 3 with NaNO₂/HCl gave the corresponding diazonium salt 4 , that combined with the appropriate active methylene components; 5a , 5b , 7 , 11 , 13 , 16 , 18 , 21 , 9 , 19 , 22a , and 22b in pyridine (AcONa/EtOH) to form the corresponding hydrazones 6a , 6b , 8 , 10 , 14 , 15 , 17 , 20 , 23 , 24 , 25a , and 25b , respectively. Heating of compound 8 with malononitrile 9 in ethanol gave the thiazole 10 . Treatment of compound 10 , 25a , and 25b with hydrazine hydrate achieve the pyrazoles 12 , 27a , and 27b , respectively. Hydrazinolysis of compound 14 with hydrazine hydrate, followed by condensation of the obtained hydrazide 15 with acetylacetone 19 gave the pyrazole 20 . The recently orchestrated thiophenes were assessed for their cytotoxic action. The result revealed that compound 12 indicated comparable and better action towards HePG2, HCT-116, MCF-7, and PC3 cancer cell lines than Doxorubicin.     

3D-pharmacophore study molecular docking and synthesis of pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-4(1H) dione derivatives with in vitro potential anticancer and antioxidant activities

Some poly functionalized heterocyclic-compounds containing pyridine-moieties were readily assembled by combining differently functionalized pyridopyrimidine-6-carbonitrile derivatives 1a,b with different electrophilic and nucleophilic reagents via short synthetic routes. The structures of the prepared derivatives were ascertained from their-spectral-and elemental analyses. Some of the synthesized compounds were tested as plausible antitumor agents. Most of those tested compounds likes 7 , 9 , 10 , 11a showed cytotoxic potencies against different tumor cell lines. In addition, the assessments for their antioxidant activities have also been done and compound 9 exhibited the highest antioxidant activity while compounds 7 and 10 showed moderate activities. Finally, molecular docking studies were carried out which favorably indicated a high support for the experimental-results.     

Thickness dependence of thermally induced changes in surface and bulk properties of Nafion® nanofilms

Thermally induced changes in surface wettability, dewetting behavior, and proton transport of “self‐assembled” nanothin Nafion^® films (4–300 nm) on SiO₂ substrate is reported. Thermal annealing induces switching of the surface wettability of 55 nm and thinner films from hydrophilic to super‐hydrophobic. Thickness dependence of this behavior is observed with higher annealing temperature required for lower thickness films, indicating highly restrictive mobility of Nafion^® ionomer as film thickness decreases. Dewetting is only observed for 4‐nm thin film. Significant suppression in proton conductivity upon thermal annealing was noted. Similarly, two other bulk properties, water uptake and swelling, were found to decrease upon annealing. This work reports a systematic examination of the thickness dependence of thermally induced changes in both surface and bulk properties of ultra‐thin Nafion^®. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Hemoglobin as a Diagnosing Molecule for Biological Effects of Atmospheric-Pressure Plasma

The studies with proteins are necessary to understand the biological effects of atmospheric pressure plasma (APP). Among proteins, those with transient metal ions play key roles in many biological events and they are very sensitive to environmental redox states. Iron-containing hemoglobin (Hb) is investigated in this study, after APP treatments under two environmental gas conditions of pure N₂ and N₂?+?O₂ mixture. Monitoring the intensity change for absorption spectra could lead to a quantitative assessment of the effect of discharge plasma on Hb. Redox states of Hb are classified into five states including O₂-bound Hb (oxy-Hb), deoxy-Hb, met-Hb, NO-bound Hb (NO-Hb), and hemichrome. Chemically generated reactive species and some scavengers are applied to understand the chemical reactions. Our experimental results confirm the complex chemical reactions of APP and suggest the possible use of Hb as a model protein for the visualization of APP biological effects.     

An overview on synthetic strategies to coumarins

Coumarins units have recently emerged as a hot topic of research due to their diverse applications. Their synthesis is partly based on classical methodologies such as Pechmann reaction or Knoevenagel condensation, but it also sparked the discovery of completely new pathways. In very recent years so-called vertically expanded coumarins were synthesized, effectively expanding the portfolio of existing architectures. This review serves as a guide through synthesis strategies to coumarins.
