Double helicity asymmetry in inclusive midrapidity pi0 production for polarized p+p collisions at square root s = 200 GeV

We present a measurement of the double longitudinal spin asymmetry in inclusive pi(0) production in polarized proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=200 GeV. The data were taken at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider with average beam polarizations of 0.27. The measurements are the first in a program to study the longitudinal spin structure of the proton, using strongly interacting probes, at collider energies. The asymmetry is presented for transverse momenta 1-5 GeV/c at midrapidity, where next-to-leading-order perturbative quantum chromodynamic (NLO pQCD) calculations well describe the unpolarized cross section. The observed asymmetry is small and is compared to a NLO pQCD calculation with a range of polarized gluon distributions.

A variable temperature EPR study of Mn(2+)-doped NH(4)Cl(0.9)I(0.1) single crystal at 170 GHz: zero-field splitting parameter and its absolute sign

EPR measurements have been carried out on a single crystal of Mn(2+)-doped NH(4)Cl(0.9)I(0.1) at 170-GHz in the temperature range of 312-4.2K. The spectra have been analyzed (i) to estimate the spin-Hamiltonian parameters; (ii) to study the temperature variation of the zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameter; (iii) to confirm the negative absolute sign of the ZFS parameter unequivocally from the temperature-dependent relative intensities of hyperfine sextets at temperatures below 10K; and (iv) to detect the occurrence of a structural phase transition at 4.35K from the change in the structure of the EPR lines with temperature below 10K.

An exact sum rule is found for theKe ₄ decay of Kaons and it is modified to account for the possible Charge and Parity-non-conservation.     

Local-field corrections to the static dielectric function of semiconductors: A model study

We present results for the macroscopic static dielectric function at small wave vector q for semiconductors, including the local-field corrections (LFCs). We have used the Penn model for our study. Our calculations demonstrate that LFCs depend on the parameters characterizing a semiconductor. Our calculations are in agreement with the calculations based on more detailed band structures.     

Thiourea as reductimetric standard: Standardisation of cerium(IV), dichromate,bromate, chloramine-T,and N-bromosuccinimide solutions

Summary The use of 0.01N thiourea as a reductimetric standard has been described for the standardisation of Ce(IV), potassium dichromate, potassium bromate, chloramine-T andN-bromosuccinimide solutions.
