Semi-implicit complementary volume scheme for solving level set like equations in image processing and curve evolution

Summary. We introduce linear semi-implicit complementary volume numerical scheme for solving level set like nonlinear degenerate diffusion equations arising in image processing and curve evolution problems. We study discretization of image selective smoothing equation of mean curvature flow type given by Alvarez, Lions and Morel ([3]). Solution of the level set equation of Osher and Sethian ([26], \[30]) is also included in the study. We prove and estimates for the proposed scheme and give existence of its (generalized) solution in every discrete time-scale step. Efficiency of the scheme is given by its linearity and stability. Preconditioned iterative solvers are used for computing arising linear systems. We present computational results related to image processing and plane curve evolution. Liquid-phase chlorination ofC-chlorovinylsilanes

Liquid-phase chlorination of a number of chloro(chlorovinyl)methylsilanes was investigated. A number of novelC-chlorosilanes were characterized by IR and¹H NMR spectra. Some regularities of these reactions were determined; correlations between the structure of chloro(chlorovinyl)methylsilanes and their reactivities were identified.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Integrable semiclassical deformations of general algebraic curves and associated conservation laws

Based on the Lenard relations, we completely classify integrable deformations of general algebraic curves. We construct the general solution of the Lenard relation from the invariance condition with respect to an element of the Galois group of the curve. Temporal compression of nanosecond laser pulses using coherent control

We present a study of the temporal compression of nanosecond laser pulses resulting from the coherent control peculiarities of the propagation dynamics in a regime of electromagnetically induced transparency. We describe the general theoretical framework and discuss the crucial conditions required in order to experimentally realize such a temporal compression scheme. A proof-of-concept experimental realization of a scheme of this type in a sample of hot sodium vapors is currently being implemented: we describe in detail the experimental setup designed for this purpose.     

Specific features of nanosystems based on natural isoferroplatinum

Nanostructuring of natural isoferroplatinum crystals is revealed by atomic-force microscopy for the first time. Typical scales of ～30, 50, and 100 nm are determined and the self-affine character of their relation is established using a wavelet analysis.
