Experimental studies of polarization of laser radiation in a rotating optical glass

The results of experiments on observation of rotation of the plane of polarization of coherent laser radiation with wavelength λ = 0.632991 μm after propagation through a rotating optical disk made of TF3 glass with refractive index n = 1.71250 are analyzed. The experiments were conducted at angle of ray incidence on the flat disk surface ?₀ = 60°, and the rotational speed of the disk was varied from 0 to 200 Hz in both directions. The results indicate that rotation of optically transparent, homogeneous, and isotropic dielectric causes rotation of linear polarization of the monochromatic electromagnetic plane wave by several tens of degrees. At a rotational speed of 3 Hz, the rotation of polarization reached Δφ = 70° for the vertical component of laser output polarization. The dependences of the angle of rotation of polarization and the degree of polarization of the rays on rotational speed are nonlinear and are attributed to the appearance of substantial anisotropic properties in a rotating dielectric.     

One-electron transfer in reactions of organomercury compounds with di-tert-butyl-substituted o-quinone

The reaction of bis(triethylgermyl)mercury with 3,5-di-tert-butyl-l,2benzoquinone has been investigated. It has been shown by means of ESR spectroscopy that the primary reaction step is a one-electron transfer from a germylmercurial compound to quinone, the paramagnetic species observed being o-semiquinone derivatives. The adduct, 3,5-di-tert-butyl-l,2-bis(triethylgermyloxy)benzene, is formed via the recombination of an ion-radical pair in the solvent cage. Partial exit of triethylgermyl radicals from the cage leads to the generation of hexaethyldigermane as one of the reaction products.Under more drastic temperature conditions, the same quinone reacts with diethylmercury via a one-electron transfer stap. The observed ESR spectrum has been attributed to a mercury-containing chelate of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-l,2-benzosemiquinone.     

Neutrino-neutralino mixing and one-loop corrections in the R-parity violating supersymmetric model

We consider the supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with neutrino Yukawa interactions and R-parity violation. We calculate one-loop corrections to physical neutrino mass in case of neutrinoneutralino mixing and discuss the influence of this mass shift on parameter constraints.     

Inhomogeneous fluctuations in liquids and gases

The coupled inhomogeneous density and temperature oscillations in liquids and gases are described with the help of dynamical equations of motion for fluctuations. It is proved that stationary points are asymptotically stable when the preset temperature distribution is inhomogeneous. It is shown that the temperature setting in a gas is a result of the competition between viscosity and heat conduction mechanisms. The phase trajectories in the T-ρ plane are constructed in the inhomogeneous case by numerically solving the derived equations.     

Nanocrystalline calcium peroxide: Synthesis,thermal and chemosorption properties

Nanocrystalline СаО₂ was synthesized using microwave technology. Vacuum and microwave drying was shown to yield nanosized calcium peroxide without organic dispersants. The size of synthesized particles was shown to have an effect on the thermal and CO₂ chemosorption properties of calcium peroxide.

Determination of Ammonium by Stripping Voltammetry

The behavior of ammonium ions at amalgam electrodes was studied by cyclic and stripping voltammetry. It was found that the oxidation peak of an ammonium hydride amalgam can be used as the analytical signal. Conditions were selected for the determination of ammonium ions in aqueous solutions at a mercury film electrode by stripping voltammetry using potassium chloride as the supporting electrolyte. The determination limit for ammonium ions was found to be 2 × 10^–7M (0.004 mg/L). The procedure was tested in river waters of the Ob' basin and in the atmospheric air.
