Acceleration Waves in Thermoelastic Beams

The laws governing the propagation, growth and decay of acceleration waves in directed models of elastic beams are deduced for materials with zero and non-zero heat flux, that is non-conductors and conductors of heat. The equations depend explicitly on the geometric and inertial characteristic of the beam section and on the mechanical properties of the material. Solutions are derived for the velocities of propagation and the evolution (amplitude variation) of each type of wave (extension, bending, shear, twist). Results are discussed and some numerical examples presented.     

3-H-isoxazolin-5-ones

4-Alkyl and 4-phenyl isoxazolin-5-ones were prepared. The 4-alkyl compounds were found to isomerize easily to α-cyano carboxylic acids. The acidity and the tautomeric composition of the compounds prepared arc surveyed and compared to the results of the previous literature.

Sunto Si studia la coomologia a coefficienti inZ ₂ del gruppo Sp(n)·Sp(1) e del suo spazio classificante B_Sp(n)·Sp(1), stabilendo in particolare che H*(Sp(n)·Sp(1),Z ₂) è generato da un sistema semplice di elementi universalmente trasgressivi e H*(B_Sp(n)·Sp(1),Z ₂) è un anello di polinomi suZ ₂ in classi di Stiefel-Whitney di opportuni fibrati. Ne vengono tratte alcune conseguenze geometriche. Entrata in Redazione il 4 agosto 1975. Il problema matematico del sistema ottico concentrico stigmatico

Sunto Si esamina il problema generale del sistema ottico tutto racchiuso da una sfera di raggio finito, dentro la quale l’indice di rifrazione sia una funzione n(r) della distanza r dal centro, tale che, quando il sistema è immerso in aria, ogni punto della sfera esterna abbia immagine perfetta all’infinito. Per n(r) si fanno le ipotesi più generali che possano essere accettate fisicamente; in particolare si ammette un numero finito di punti di discontinuità di prima specie. Dato il modo di costruire la soluzione generale, che dipende da una funzione arbitraria, definita in un intervallo minore del raggio della sfera esterna, si sviluppano a fondo i calcoli per un caso particolare di speciale interesse fisico.     

LIGHT-INDUCED EFFECTS ON A FLAVOPROTEIN, D-AMINO-ACID OXIDASE

Abstract— Upon irradiation of D-amino-acid oxidase-benzoate complex with monochromatic light, an increase is observed in fluorescence emission and in transient absorption, whilst no variation is detected in optical absorption. The phenomenon is discussed in terms of a flavin-adenine-dinucleotide release from the apoprotein, possibly followed by chromophore photodegradation.

Summary The [PPh₄][TcCl₄(sal)] and [PPh₄][ReOCl₃(sal)] (sal=o-OC₆H₄CHO) complexes were synthesized from [PPh₄]₂[MCl₆] (M=Tc or Re) and salicylaldehyde. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements and i.r. spectrometry. The structure of [PPh₄][TcCl₄(sal)] was determined by x-ray methods and consists of well-separated units of octahedral [TcCl₄(sal)]^– anions and tetrahedral [PPh₄]⁺ cations. The equatorial plane of the octahedron is formed by two Cl atoms and the chelated(2) sal group, with the resulting TcCl₂(sal) unit approximately planar. Selected values in the anion are as follows: Tc-Cl(mean) 2.34(1), Tc-O(1) 2.04(2) and Tc-O(2) 1.98(2), O(1)---O(2)(byte) 2.83 Å; O(1)-Tc-O(2) 89.3(0.7)^o.
