The methyl acrylate dimer (MAD) is a sterically hindered macromonomer, and the propagating radical can fragment to an unsaturated end group. The propagation‐rate coefficient (kp) for MAD was obtained by pulsed‐laser polymerization (PLP). The Mark–Houwink–Sakaruda parameters required for the analysis of the molecular weight distributions (MWDs) were obtained by multiple‐detector gel permeation chromatography (GPC) with on‐line viscometry. The small radical created by the fragmentation results in a short‐chain polymer that means the MWD may no longer be given by that expected for “ideal” PLP conditions; simulations suggest that the degree of polymerization required for “ideal” PLP conditions can be obtained from the primary point of inflection provided the GPC traces also show a clear secondary inflection point (radicals terminated by the second, rather than the first, pulse subsequent to initiation). Over the temperature range of 40–75 °C, the data can be best fitted by kp/dm3 mol?1 s?1 = 106.1 exp(?29.5 kJ mol?1), with a moderately large joint confidence interval for the Arrhenius parameters. The data are consistent with an increased activation energy and reduced frequency factor as compared with acrylate or methacrylate; both of these changes can be ascribed to hindrance. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A single-laboratory method validation was conducted to establish the effectiveness of an immunoaffinity column cleanup procedure followed by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LCIMS) for the determination of fumonisins B1 and B2 (FBI + FB2) in corn. The test portion is extracted with acetonitrile-methanol-water (25 + 25 + 50). The extract is filtered, diluted with phosphate-buffered saline solution, and applied to an immunoaffinity column. FB1 + FB2 are removed with methanol and directly determined by reversed-phase LC with MS detection using selected-ion monitoring of 2 characteristic ions in each case. Test portions of blank corn samples were spiked with a mixture of FB1 + FB2 to give total levels of 200 and 500 ng/g, respectively. Recoveries of both FB1 and FB2 from spiked samples averaged 90.4-101%. Based on results for spiked raw corn (triplicates at 2 levels), the relative standard deviation for repeatability ranged from 2.8 to 7.1%. The accuracy of the method was demonstrated by analysis of Food Analysis Performance Assessment Scheme (FAPAS) test material. Transition metal salts of heteropolyacids have been prepared taking into account the strong acidic and cation exchanging properties of the solid heteropolyacids. The exchange between protons and the transition metal cation is carried out by stirring a suspension of the hydrated heteropolyacid in a solution of the metal acetylacetonate complex in toluene. The exchange occurs on the surface of the solid particles and diffusion of protons and metal cations into the hydrated lattice leads to the substitution of all the protons. The method can be utilized in order to prepare supported vanadyl and copper molybdophosphates from supported heteropolyacids and they have been studied in the catalysis of the oxidative dehydrogenation of isobutyric acid. The effect of vanadyl counter-ions on the catalytic behavior is the same as observed with bulk catalysts but, on the contrary, copper supported molybdophosphate shows an acid catalytic activity not observed with bulk catalysts. 相似文献

The use of chemically modified starches is widely accepted in various industries, with several applications. In this research, natural cassava starch granules were treated with standard sodium hypochlorite solution at 0.8, 2.0, and 5.0 g Cl/100 g starch. The native and modified starch samples were investigated by means of the following techniques: simultaneous thermogravimetry–differential thermal analysis, which allowed us to verify the thermal decomposition associated with endothermic or exothermic phenomena; and differential scanning calorimetry that was used to determine gelatinization enthalpy as well as the rapid viscoamylographic analysis that provided the pasting temperature and viscosity. By means of non-contact-atomic force microscopy method and X-ray powder patterns diffractometry, it was possible to observe the surface morphology, topography of starch granules, and alterations in the granules’ crystallinity. 相似文献

The syntheses of three methacrylate monomers with cinnamate ester side-chains and of a further monomer with a corresponding cinnamide side-chain are described. Two of the monomers, with isomeric structures, were thermotropic liquid crystals. Although the clearing points were very similar the crystal melting points differed by 8°C. One compound also exhibited a monotropic smectic phase, behavior not shown by its isomer. The other two monomers were not liquid crystalline. The monomers were polymerized by free radical polymerization, both as homopolymers and as copolymers with methyl methacrylate. In the case of one of the mesogenic ester monomers, copolymers with a cyanophenyl benzoate monomer were also prepared. Three of the four monomers formed thermotropic liquid crystalline homopolymers and the copolymers with the benzoate monomer were also liquid crystalline. The monomers were considered as photoactive components of polymeric liquid crystals. As a preliminary investigation of their photochemistry, copolymers with methyl methacrylate were prepared and irradiated in solution with a broad-band source. The diffusion coefficients are reported of rubbery ternary systems consisting of the polymer, its monomer analogue (i.e., the saturated equivalent of the monomer), and trace quantities of oligomers (dimer, trimer, tetramer and hexamer) for 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). These have been obtained with pulsed‐field‐gradient NMR spectroscopy with a polymer weight fraction (fp) of 0 ≤ fp ≤ 0.4. The oligomers are macromonomers synthesized with a cobalt catalytic chain‐transfer agent. The diffusion coefficients are about an order of magnitude smaller than those for monomers such as methyl methacrylate; this effect is ascribed to hydrogen bonding in HEMA. The diffusion coefficient Di of an i‐meric oligomer has been fitted with moderate accuracy by an empirical universal scaling relation, Di(fp)/D1(fp) ≈ i, previously found to provide an adequate fit to corresponding data for styrene and for methyl and butyl methacrylates. The approximate empirical scaling relation seems to hold for a remarkably wide range of types of monomer/polymer systems. These results are of use in modeling rates and molecular weight distributions in free‐radical polymerization, particularly for termination (which is chain‐length‐dependent and is controlled by the diffusion coefficient of chains of the low degrees of polymerization studied here). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two highly branched glucose polymers with similar structures—starch and glycogen—have important relations to human health. Slowly digestible and resistant starches have desirable health benefits, including the prevention and alleviation of metabolic diseases and prevention of colon cancer. Glycogen is important in regulating the use of glucose in the body, and diabetic subjects have an anomaly in their glycogen structure compared with that in healthy subjects. This paper reviews the biosynthesis–structure–property relations of these polymers, showing that polymer characterization produces knowledge which can be useful in producing healthier foods and new drug targets aimed at improving glucose storage in diabetic patients. Examples include mathematical modeling to design starch with better nutritional values, the effects of amylose fine structures on starch digestibility, the structure of slowly digested starch collected from in vitro and in vivo digestion, and the mechanism of the formation of glycogen α particles from β particles in healthy subjects. A new method to overcome a current problem in the structural characterization of these polymers using field-flow fractionation is also given, through a technique to calibrate evaporative light scattering detection with starch. Gas‐phase C―C coupling reactions mediated by Ni (II) complexes were studied using a linear quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. Ternary nickel cationic carboxylate complexes, [(phen)Ni (OOCR1)]+ (where phen = 1,10‐phenanthroline), were formed by electrospray ionization. Upon collision‐induced dissociation (CID), they extrude CO2 forming the organometallic cation [(phen)Ni(R1)]+, which undergoes gas‐phase ion‐molecule reactions (IMR) with acetate esters CH3COOR2 to yield the acetate complex [(phen)Ni (OOCCH3)]+ and a C―C coupling product R1‐R2. These Ni(II)/phenanthroline‐mediated coupling reactions can be performed with a variety of carbon substituents R1 and R2 (sp3, sp2, or aromatic), some of them functionalized. Reaction rates do not seem to be strongly dependent on the nature of the substituents, as sp3‐sp3 or sp2‐sp2 coupling reactions proceed rapidly. Experimental results are supported by density functional theory calculations, which provide insights into the energetics associated with the C―C bond coupling step. 相似文献
