We present an investigation of the dependence of searches for boosted Higgs bosons using jet substructure on the perturbative and non-perturbative parameters of the Herwig++ Monte Carlo event generator. Values are presented for a new tune of the parameters of the event generator, together with the an estimate of the uncertainties based on varying the parameters around the best-fit values.  相似文献

Mechanical strain relief techniques for estimating the magnitude of residual stress work by measuring strains or displacements when part of the component is machined away. The underlying assumption is that such strain or displacement changes result from elastic unloading. Unfortunately, in components containing high levels of residual stress, elastic-plastic unloading may well occur, particularly when the residual stresses are highly triaxial. This paper examines the performance of one mechanical strain relief technique particularly suitable for large section components, the deep hole drilling (DHD) technique. The magnitude of error is calculated for different magnitudes of residual stress and can be substantial for residual stress states close to yield. A modification to the technique is described to allow large magnitudes of residual stress to be measured correctly. The new technique is validated using the case of a quenched cylinder where use of the standard DHD technique leads to unacceptable error. The measured residual stresses using the new technique are compared with the results obtained using the neutron diffraction technique and are shown to be in excellent agreement.  相似文献

Laboratory and industrial risers are equipped with exits of many different layouts, and numerous publications discuss the influence of riser exit geometry on local and overall solids hydrodynamics in the riser. The present paper reviews literature findings--mostly based upon indirect experimental techniques and often somewhat contradictory, Direct measurement of particle velocity and particle occupancy near and in the riser exit provide a better indication of the effect of riser exit geometry. Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) was used in this work for the first time to investigate the exit region of the riser, An abrupt or sharp exit causes particles to be knocked out of the gas flow, so forming a recirculation or reflux region in the upper part of the riser. This is much less pronounced with a curved or gradual exit.  相似文献

Due to environmentally friendly and cost- effective issues, biological methods for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesis are advantageous over chemical and physical ones. In this study, AgNPs synthesized using Lavandula stoechas extract as a reductant and its antioxidant capacity, antibacterial property and cytotoxicity effect were investigated. The phyto-synthesized AgNPs were characterized using various analyses such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD) as well as Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The prepared nanoparticles were spherical on shape with the size about 20–50 nm. Antibacterial studies through agar disk diffusion method confirmed the antibacterial potential of phyto-synthesized AgNPs toward two clinical Staphylococus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, although MTT assay demonstrated that S. aureus (MIC = 125 μg/ml) was more susceptible to AgNPs than P. aeruginosa (MIC = 250 μg/ml). Moreover, the cytotoxicity assay of phyto-synthezied AgNPs showed a low cytotoxic effect on RAW264 cell line at 62.5 μg/ml as an effective concentration. Also the considerable antioxidant capacity of the AgNPs confirmed through DPPH assay. Great antibacterial and antioxidant properties along with biocompatibility make the suggested phyto-synthesized AgNPs a great candidate for different biomedical applications including wound healing.  相似文献

Free convection heat transfer from an isothermal horizontal cylinder in the presence of DC positive corona discharge with a blade edge emitter electrode has been studied experimentally and numerically. A Mach–Zehnder interferometer was used to determine the local Nusselt numbers. The effect of corona discharge on heat transfer from the cylinder was investigated at Rayleigh numbers in the range between 1500 and 5000. To find the details of the flow patterns and to further verify the experimental results, numerical simulations were also performed. It was found that the numerical results are in good agreement with experimental data. By increasing the applied voltage up to 15.5 kV, the corona discharge generates a recirculation zone around the blade and below the lower stagnation point of the cylinder. The effect of the recirculation zone becomes stronger near the breakdown voltage (17 kV) and it is responsible for a local decrease in the cooling of the cylinder around the lower stagnation point. The results indicate that corona discharge has a significant effect on the average Nusselt number at lower Rayleigh numbers whereas it has smaller effect at higher Rayleigh numbers.  相似文献

The complex [Cu(nitroca2ph)2]ClO4, where nitroca2ph is N,N′‐bis(2‐nitrocinnamaldehyde)phenylenediimine, crystallizes in the triclinic space group with a = 13.167(1), b = 13.209(1), c = 14.465(1) Å, α = 83.209(9)°, β = 68.438(2)°, γ = 70.803(2)°, V = 2209.4(3) Å3, Z = 2, Dcalc = 1.527 mg/m3. The coordination polyhedron about the Cu(I) atom is best described as a distorted tetrahedron. 2‐nitroca2en acts as a bidentate ligand coordinating via two N atoms to the copper. The four Cu–N distances are 2.04 (2), 2.038(2), 2.046(2), and 2.062(2) Å.  相似文献

The blockade of kainate receptors, in particular with non-competitive antagonists, has—due to their anticonvulsant and neuroprotective properties—therapeutic potential in many central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Deciphering the structural properties of kainate receptor ligands is crucial to designing medicinal compounds that better fit the receptor binding pockets. In light of that fact, here, we report experimental and computational structural studies of four indole derivatives that are non-competitive antagonists of GluK1/GluK2 receptors. We used X-ray studies and Hirshfeld surface analysis to determine the structure of the compounds in the solid state and quantum chemical calculations to compute HOMO and LUMO orbitals and the electrostatic potential. Moreover, non-covalent interaction maps were also calculated. It is worth emphasizing that compounds 3 and 4 are achiral molecules crystallising in non-centrosymmetric space groups, which is a relatively rare phenomenon.  相似文献
