The Ta-oxide cathode catalysts were prepared by electrodeposition in a non-aqueous solution. These catalysts showed excellent catalytic activity and have an onset potential of 0.92 V(RHE) for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). We describe the fabrication of a biomimically designed superhydrophobic poly(ε‐caprolactone) surface, which was obtained using a modified electrostatic process. The fabricated surface exhibits a micron‐sized pyramid structure consisting of accumulated droplets and nanofibres. By using this simple one‐step process, we can achieve a superhydrophobic surface having both a high water contact angle and low threshold sliding angle, similar to that of the superhydrophobic plant leaf.

Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have been reported to be beneficial for the treatment of liver fibrosis. Here, we investigated the use of genetically engineered MSCs that overexpress hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) as a means to improve their therapeutic effect in liver fibrosis. Liver fibrosis was induced by intraperitoneal injection of dimethylnitrosamine. HGF-secreting MSCs (MSCs/HGF) were prepared by transducing MSCs with an adenovirus carrying HGF-encoding cDNA. MSCs or MSCs/HGF were injected directly into the spleen of fibrotic rats. Tissue fibrosis was assessed by histological analysis 12 days after stem cell injection. Although treatment with MSCs reduced fibrosis, treatment with MSCs/HGF produced a more significant reduction and was associated with elevated HGF levels in the portal vein. Collagen levels in the liver extract were decreased after MSC/HGF therapy, suggesting recovery from fibrosis. Furthermore, liver function was improved in animals receiving MSCs/HGF, indicating that MSC/HGF therapy resulted not only in reduction of liver fibrosis but also in improvement of hepatocyte function. Assessment of cell and biochemical parameters revealed that mRNA levels of the fibrogenic cytokines PDGF-bb and TGF-β1 were significantly decreased after MSC/HGF therapy. Subsequent to the decrease in collagen, expression of matrix metalloprotease-9 (MMP-9), MMP-13, MMP-14 and urokinase-type plasminogen activator was augmented following MSC/HGF, whereas tissue inhibitor of metalloprotease-1 (TIMP-1) expression was reduced. In conclusion, therapy with MSCs/HGF resulted in an improved therapeutic effect compared with MSCs alone, probably because of the anti-fibrotic activity of HGF. Degradation behaviors of poly(3‐hexylthiophene‐2,5‐diyl) (P3HT) layers on NiO in the presence of H2O at ambient pressure and dark conditions were studied using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Upon H2O exposure at 120 °C, partial oxidation of P3HT together with molecular water incorporation, but with the maintained local ring‐structure, were deduced by XPS. Valence band spectra of XPS evidenced that the partial oxidation of P3HT local structure could alter π‐conjugation systems of P3HT layers, forming additional electronic states close to its original highest occupied molecular orbital. For comparison, P3HT surface was also exposed to O2, and no change in the S 2p and C 1s spectra was found by O2 exposure at 120 °C, implying that H2O plays a major role at the initial stage of P3HT oxidation. In buildings, windows have a major influence on space heating demand and indoor environment both with respect to climate and daylight. To reduce the window coefficient of the overall heat transmission, we use aerogel. Aerogels have a high surface area, low density, open pore structure, and excellent insulation properties. We mixed pressure sensitive adhesive and aerogel (10, 15, and 20 mass%) using a homogenizer. A mixture of the adhesives and silica aerogels attached film can reduce thermal conductivity. Silica aerogels are characterized by a surface area analyzer (BET), a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, a thermogravimetry (TG) analyzer, and probe tack method. Photocatalyst-assisted ammonia pretreatment was explored to improve lignin removal of the lignocellulosic biomass for effective sugar conversion. Corn stover was treated with 5.0–12.5 wt.% ammonium hydroxide, two different photocatalysts (TiO2 and ZnO) in the presence of molecular oxygen in a batch reactor at 60 °C. Various solid-to-liquid ratios (1:20–1:50) were also tested. Ammonia pretreatment assisted by TiO2-catalyzed photo-degradation removed 70 % of Klason lignin under the optimum condition (12.5 % ammonium hydroxide, 60 °C, 24 h, solid/liquid?=?1:20, photocatalyst/biomass?=?1:10 with oxygen atmosphere). The enzymatic digestibilities of pretreated corn stover were 85 % for glucan and 75 % for xylan with NH3-TiO2-treated solid and 82 % for glucan and 77 % for xylan with NH3-ZnO-treated solid with 15 filter paper units/g-glucan of cellulase and 30 cellobiase units/g-glucan of β-glucosidase, a 2–13 % improvement over ammonia pretreatment alone. 相似文献

We show how to reduce the general formulation of the mass–angular momentum–charge inequality, for axisymmetric initial data of the Einstein–Maxwell equations, to the known maximal case whenever a geometrically motivated system of equations admits a solution. It is also shown that the same reduction argument applies to the basic inequality yielding a lower bound for the area of black holes in terms of mass, angular momentum, and charge. This extends previous work by the authors (Cha and Khuri, Ann Henri Poincaré, doi: 10.1007/s00023-014-0332-6, arXiv:1401.3384, 2014), in which the role of charge was omitted.
