Semiclassical calculation of VV and VT rate coeffecients in CO

We have calculated 66 rate constants for vibration-vibration (V-V) and vibration-translation/rotation (V-T/R) energy transfer in CO by using a semiclassical collision model. Extensive comparison with experimental data and more approximate theoretical predictions is carried out.

The usefulness of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for electron transport studies was shown by examining the reaction of selenite with mercapto-ethanol     

Sub-Stonean spaces and corona sets

A self-contained account of the theory of sub-Stonean spaces, and their relations to Stonean spaces and Rickart spaces is given. Of particular interest are the corona sets (of the form β(X) for locally compact, σ-compact spaces, because these highly nontrivial sub-Stonean spaces lend themselves to C?ech-cohomological considerations. The theory of sub-Stonean spaces is essential for our solution of the diagonalization problem for C(X)? M_n, found in K. Grove and G. K. Pedersen, Diagonalizing matrices over C(X), submitted for publication.     

Recursive undecidability of the binding property for finitely presented equational classes

It is shown that there exists no algorithm which, given a finite presentation of an equational classC, decides whether the category of algebras inC is binding.     

Bredt Compounds and the Bredt Rule

The Bredt rule, which proved useful in earlier decades mainly as an exclusion criterion in the assignment of structures, has in recent years become the stimulus for efforts to synthesize strained bicyclic systems with a bridgehead double bond. On the basis of the ring-strain forces operating in such systems, an extended Bredt rule is discussed. The “Bredt comgounds” to which this rule applies, which include bicyclic systems not prevoously consodered from this point of view (e.g. bridged methylenecyclopropanes), form a clearly circumscribed, interesting field within the chemistry of highly-strained hydrocarbons with ring unsaturation.
