We present the results of an experiment performed at PSI to investigate muon catalyzed fusion in pure deuterium gas of 5% density (LHD) at temperatures ranging from 28 K to 350 K. Using a new high pressure ionization chamber the reactions ddn + 3He and dd → p+t were observed with 100% detection efficiency. The rates of dμd formation were measured with the absolute precision of 1% and the μd spin-flip rates with 0.5%. The temperature dependence of molecular formation and spin-flip rates display pronounced resonance structures. A preliminary fit based on the Vesman mechanism of resonant muonic molecule formation was carried out yielding a dd fusion rate of 3.5·108 s-1 and a hfs splitting energy of 24.3 meV, both in good agreement with the theory. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Magnetization of ferromagnetic materials commonly occurs via random jumps of domain walls between pinning sites, a phenomenon known as the Barkhausen effect. Using strongly focused light pulses of appropriate power and duration we demonstrate the ability to selectively activate single jumps in the domain wall propagation in (Ga,Mn)As, manifesting itself as a discrete photoinduced domain wall creep as a function of illumination time. The propagation velocity can be increased over 7 orders of magnitude varying the illumination power density and the magnetic field.  相似文献

A theoretical study has been carried out on two methoxyphenyl derivatives (tetrakis‐(p‐methoxyphenyl)‐ porphyrin and the Zn‐containing complex), which are the reduced size representation of the alkyl peripheral substituent systems. The aim is to study the electronic interactions on these aromatic cores which is one of the most important properties in discotic liquid crystals. Their face‐to‐face dimeric conformation systems were studied in order to evaluate charge transport properties, by assessing the intermolecular charge transfer integrals “t” in the context of the Marcus electron transfer theory. The intermolecular transfer integral has been calculated from the matrix elements of the Kohn–Sham Hamiltonian including dispersion correction for noncovalent interacting systems. The results indicate that the effect of the Zn center in these porphyrins is nearly negligible and both studied systems can act as electron carriers, which are also seen in the bonding interaction of the LUMO orbitals. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Objective

The cause of enophthalmos as a late complication after orbital reconstruction is poorly investigated. Multislice CT (MSCT) is usually employed for its assessment, in spite of limitations regarding soft tissue depiction/imaging, as well as the implication of radiation and production of artifacts. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been shown to be a valuable alternative. The aim of this study was to establish a bony and soft tissue orbital volume calculation method based on different high-resolution MRI sequences compared to MSCT.

Materials and Methods

Thirty-seven patients were included in this prospective study investigating the origin of enophthalmos present 3–4 months after complex orbital reconstruction. Morphological and dimensional changes of the orbit, eye globes, extraocular muscles and fat content were investigated 3–4 months after surgery. To assess the site and size of bony and soft tissue changes in the traumatized orbits, we used MSCT and MR images as well as corresponding 3-D reconstructions.

Results

All enophthalmic orbits revealed a significant bony volume increase compared to the contralateral side as well as a reduced sagittal eye projection. Mean orbital volume enlargements of 1.0 cm3 lead to 0.93 mm enophthalmos (P<.05). Hardly any fatty atrophy could be depicted by the different MRI techniques.

Conclusions

For soft tissue depiction of the orbit, MRI was superior to MSCT. Particularly, proton density weighting proved to be the best sequence for soft tissue volume segmentation, allowing determination of the cause and degree of posttraumatic enophthalmos in reconstructed orbits.  相似文献
