The time evolution of finite amplitude axisymmetric perturbations (Taylor cells) to the purely azimuthal, viscoelastic, cylindrical Couette flow was numerically simulated. Two time integration numerical methods were developed, both based on a pseudospectral spatial approximation of the variables, efficiently implemented using fast Poisson solvers and optimal filtering routines. The first method, applicable for finite Re numbers, is based on a time-splitting integration with the divergence-free condition enforced through an influence matrix technique. The second one, is based on a semi-implicit time integration of the constitutive equation with both the continuity and the momentum equations enforced as constraints. Stability results for an upper convected Maxwell fluid were obtained for the supercritical bifurcations, either steady or time-periodic, developed after the onset of instabilities in the primary flow. At small elasticity values, ? ≡ De/Re, the time integration of finite amplitude disturbances confirms the stability of the single branch of steady Taylor cells. At intermediate ? values the rotating wave family of time-periodic solutions developed at the onset of instability is stable, whereas the standing wave is found to be unstable. At high ? values, and in particular for the limit of creeping flow (? = ∞), the present study shows that the rotating wave family is unstable and the standing (radial) wave is stable, in agreement with previous finite-element investigations. It is thus shown that spectral techniques provide a robust and computationally efficient method for the simulation of complex, non-linear, time-dependent viscoelastic flows.  相似文献

Summary Recent theoretical and experimental studies have shown how local wind fields, such as the land-sea breeze circulation in coastal areas, influence the transport of oxidant precursors and the residence time and re-entry of photochemical compounds. Simple models usually do not take into account the vertical layering of pollutants, assuming a uniform concentration distribution within the boundary layer during transport processes. The present study reports the results of a monitoring survey conducted in an industrial coastal area to assess the time evolution of the vertical layering of ozone subject to land-sea breeze circulation in the boundary layer.  相似文献

Summary A simple numerical simulation of daily summer circulation in W-NW and E-SE directions was applied to a coastal area of Greater Ravenna in Northern Italy to assess the influence on ozone levels of the transport mechanism in the land-sea breeze system. Field measurements of ozone concentration and micrometeorological data collected over a ten-year period (1978–1989) by a coastal monitoring station were processed to identify meteorological and climatic situations. The diurnal pattern of a ?pure? off-shore-in-shore circulation system was reconstructed by applying a simple model in which data were considered or rejected as a function of the prevailing wind direction. Only data collected under W-NW and E-SE wind direction conditions became part of the ?reconstructed wind circulation system?. The findings show that the relative concentration values and the time duration of the simulated transport phenomenon are in good agreement with the recorded episodes of transport and of severe continuous fumigation, occurring during the night, at the polluted area.  相似文献

Capacity planning in the reverse channel of closed-loop supply chains (CLSCs) involves complex issues due to the different lifecycles of product offerings in combination with the variability regarding product usage time, quality level of used products and return patterns. (Georgiadis, P., Vlachos, D., Tagaras, G., 2006. The impact of product lifecycle on capacity planning of closed-loop supply chains with remanufacturing. Production and Operations Management 15; 514–527) developed a system dynamics (SD) model to study a CLSC with remanufacturing for a single product which incorporates a dynamic capacity modeling approach. We extend this SD model for two sequential product-types under two alternative scenarios regarding the market preferences over the product-types; in the first scenario, the market is considered showing no preferences, while in the second scenario, the demand over a product-type can be satisfied only by providing units of the specific type. We study how the joint lifecycles of two product-types, entry time of the second product-type to the market and used product return patterns affect the optimal policies regarding expansion and contraction of collection and remanufacturing capacities. The results of extensive numerical investigation are tested for their statistical significance using analysis of variance (ANOVA). In the first scenario, the results show that the system performs best when the two lifecycles form a trapezoid pattern for total demand while in the second scenario, when the two lifecycles form a triangular pattern.  相似文献

The present work deals with torsional wave propagation in a linear gradient-elastic half-space. More specifically, we prove that torsional surface waves (i.e. waves with amplitudes exponentially decaying with distance from the free surface) do exist in a homogeneous gradient-elastic half-space. This finding is in contrast with the well-known result of the classical theory of linear elasticity that torsional surface waves do not exist in a homogeneous half-space. The weakness of the classical theory, at this point, is only circumvented by modeling the half-space as having material properties variable with depth (E. Reissner, Freie und erzwungene Torsionsschwingungen des elastischen Halbraumes, Ingenieur-Archiv 8 (1937) 229–245) or by considering couplings with electric and magnetic fields for different types of materials (Maugin, 1988). The theory employed here is the simplest possible version of Mindlin’s (R.D. Mindlin, Micro-structure in linear elasticity, Arch. Rat. Mech. Anal. 16 (1964) 51–78) generalized linear elasticity. A simple wave-propagation analysis based on Hankel transforms and complex-variable theory was done in order to determine the conditions for the existence of the torsional surface motions and to derive dispersion curves and cut-off frequencies. Also, we notice that, up to date, no other generalized linear continuum theory (including the integral-type non-local theory) has successfully been proposed to predict torsional surface waves in a homogeneous half-space.  相似文献

The Bingel functionalisation of C(60) with a structurally novel tether equipped with three reactive malonate groups afforded a C(2v)-symmetrical e(edge),e(face),trans-1 trisadduct in a complete regioselective manner and in an excellent yield of 65%. [reaction: see text] Abyssomicins, a novel class of polyketide antibiotics, are characterized by an unprecedented spirotetronic tricyclic subunit in their structure. In this letter, a short synthesis of a suitably functionalized tricyclic precursor of abyssomicins is reported. Key steps of the synthesis are (i) the highly stereoselective Al(III)-tethered Diels-Alder reaction and (ii) the tandem Dieckmann cyclization/TBS trapping of the C9 hydroxyl group followed by a regioselective intramolecular epoxide opening for the assembly of the target tricyclic structure.  相似文献

Emission of both longitudinal and surface (Rayleigh) waves during fracture of plates under conditions of plane stress and plane strain were studied experimentally. The non-equilibrated tensile stress in the fractured section of the plate creates an elastic wave, which travels radially along the plate at the sound speed. Moreover, the high surface deformation around the crack tip, due to the high stress concentration there, propagates as a surface wave following fracture of this zone, at the respective Rayleigh wave speed with a circular wavefront. The influence of the thickness of the plate and the type of fracture (brittle or ductile) was examined and interesting results were derived, by utilizing a high speed photography technique.  相似文献

Thus 2H-pyran-3(6H)-ones were used as keystone intermediates for the preparation of novel α,β-disubstituted tyramine derivatives. Single and double ionization of magnesium and calcium atoms following Nd: YAG laser multiphoton excitation at 1064 and 532 nm have been studied by employing pulses of 35 ps and 200 ps duration at intensities of the order of 1010–2×1013 W/cm2. The dependence of ion formation on the laser intensity has been measured and the slopes of the linear parts of the log-log plots and the ratios of saturation intensities for two pulse durations have been compared with the predictions of the scaling law. No evidence for a pure direct double ionization process has been obtained.  相似文献
