The influence of interdigital multilamination micromixer characteristics on monomer conversions, molecular weights and especially on the polydispersity index of block copolymers synthesized continuously in two microtube reactors is investigated. The micromixers are used to mix, before copolymerization, a polymer solution with different viscosities and the second monomer. Different geometries of micromixer (number of microchannels, characteristic lengths) have been studied. It was found that polydispersity indices of the copolymers follow a linear relationship with the Reynolds number in the micromixer, represented by a form factor. Thus, beside the operating conditions (nature of the first block and comonomer flow rate), the choice of the micromixer geometry and dimension is essential to control the copolymerization in terms of molecular weights and polydispersity indices. This linear correlation allows the prediction of copolymer features. It can also be a new method to optimize existing micromixers or design other geometries so that mixing could be more efficient. 相似文献

The recent successful breakthrough of sub-3 μm shell particles in HPLC has triggered considerable research efforts toward the design of new brands of core-shell particles. We investigated the mass transfer mechanism of a few analytes in narrow-bore columns packed with prototype 1.7 μm shell particles, made of 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4 μm solid nonporous cores surrounded by porous shells 350, 250, and 150 nm thick, respectively. Three probe solutes, uracil, naphthalene, and insulin, were chosen to assess the kinetic performance of these columns. Inverse size exclusion chromatography, peak parking experiments, and the numerical integration of the experimental peak profiles were carried out in order to measure the external, internal, and total column porosities, the true bulk diffusion coefficients of these analytes, the height equivalent to a theoretical plate, the longitudinal diffusion term, and the trans-particle mass transfer resistance term. The residual eddy diffusion term was measured by difference. The results show the existence of important trans-column velocity biases (7%) possibly due to the presence of particle multiplets in the slurry mixture used during the packing process. Our results illustrates some of the difficulties encountered by scientists preparing and packing shell particles into narrow-bore columns. 相似文献

A new simple chronoamperometry methodology was developed for the ultrasensitive determination of lead ions using a PEDOT:PSS coated graphite carbon electrode. The polymer was directly coated on a graphite carbon electrode and characterized using simple cycle voltammetric measurements. The presence of lead ions induced a cathodic peak starting at −550 ± 10 mV vs. Ag/AgCl, and an anodic peak starting at −360 ± 10 mV vs. Ag/AgCl. Electroaccumulation of lead ions onto the PEDOT:PSS modified electrode was performed at −650 mV vs. Ag/AgCl for 30 s in a pH 2.2 hydrochloric acid solution. Chronoamperometry measurements were carried out at −350 mV vs. Ag/AgCl allowing the oxidation of accumulated lead. Using this method, lead ions were detected for concentrations ranging between 2.0 nmol L−1 and 0.1 μmol L−1 (R2 = 0.999). The detection limit was calculated to be 0.19 nmol L−1 and the quantification limit of 0.63 nmol L−1. The method was shown to be highly precise and sensitive, negligible interference was detected from other metal ions. The proposed method was successfully applied for the detection of lead ions in vegetables. 相似文献

The overall kinetic performance of three production columns (2.1 mm × 100 mm format) packed with 1.6 μm superficially porous CORTECS‐C18+ particles was assessed on a low‐dispersive I‐class ACQUITY instrument. The values of their minimum intrinsic reduced plate heights (hmin = 1.42, 1.57, and 1.75) were measured at room temperature (295 K) for a small molecule (naphthalene) with an acetonitrile/water eluent mixture (75:25, v/v). These narrow‐bore columns provide an average intrinsic efficiency of 395 000 plates per meter. The gradient separation of 14 small molecules shows that these columns have a peak capacity about 25% larger than similar ones packed with fully porous BEH‐C18 particles (1.7 μm) or shorter (50 mm) columns packed with smaller core–shell particles (1.3 μm) operated under very high pressure (>1000 bar) for steep gradient elution (analysis time 80 s). In contrast, because their permeabilities are lower than those of columns packed with larger core–shell particles, their peak capacities are 25% smaller than those of narrow‐bore columns packed with standard 2.7 μm core–shell particles. 相似文献

The influence of the degree of coverage of a silica surface with bonded C18 alkyl chains on the mass transfer mechanism in RPLC was investigated. Five packing materials were used, prepared with the same batch of silica particles (5 microm diameter, 90 A average pore size): one column was packed with the silica derivatized by trimethylchlorosilane (TMS) (C1, 3.92 micromol/m2), and the other four with the silica first derivatized with octadecyl-dimethyl-chlorosilane (C18, 0.42, 1.01, 2.03, and 3.15 micromol/m2), and then endcapped with TMS. A solution of methanol and water (25/75, v/v) was used as the mobile phase. The experimental HETP curves were acquired for each column by measuring the first moment and the second central moment of phenol and correcting them for the influence of the temperature increase due to the heat generated by the friction of the stream against the bed. The different kinetic parameters of the mass transfer in these packed chromatographic columns were identified (longitudinal diffusion, eddy diffusion, film mass transfer, and transparticle mass transfer) and quantified by fitting the experimental data to a new general HETP equation recently derived [F. Gritti, G. Guiochon, Anal. Chem., in press (AC-060203R).]. The agreement was excellent and allowed the comparison of the kinetic parameters among the six columns used. The highest column efficiency measured at conventional or fast flow rates (>0.5 ml/min) is obtained for the most retentive column, which has a surface coverage of 2.03 micromol/m2. The smallest HETP measured is as low as 10 microm, only twice the average particle diameter dp, due to the large contribution of surface diffusion (90%) to the particle effective diffusivity. Copolymers of 2‐ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA) and cholesteryloxycarbonyl‐2‐hydroxymethacrylate (CEM) were prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Supramolecular complexes of these copolymers with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were soluble in THF, toluene, and isooctane. The colloidal solutions remained stable for months without aggregation. The rationale for the choice of CEM was based on the high adsorption energy of cholesterol on the CNT surface, as computed by DFT calculations. Adsorption isotherms were experimentally measured for copolymers of various architectures (statistical, diblock, and star copolymers), thereby demonstrating that 2–5 cholesterol groups were adsorbed per polymer chain. Once the supramolecular complex had dried, the CNTs could be easily resolubilized in isooctane without the need for high‐power sonication and in the absence of added polymer. Analysis by atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated that the CNTs were devoid of bundles. The supramolecular complexes could also be employed in an inverse emulsion polymerization of 2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) in isooctane and dodecane, thereby leading to the formation of a continuous polymeric sheath around the CNTs. Thus, this technique leads to the formation of very stable dispersions in non‐polar organic solvents, without altering the fundamental properties of the CNTs. 相似文献

A series of four π‐conjugated carbazole‐alt‐benzothiadiazole copolymers (PCBT) were prepared by Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction between synthesized dibromocarbazoles as electron‐rich subunits and 4,7‐bis(4,4,5,5‐tetramethyl‐1,3,2‐dioxaborolan‐2‐yl)?2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole as electron‐deficient subunits. The subunits were directly linked through 2,7‐ or 3,6‐ positions of the carbazole. In addition, the carbazole monomers have been N‐substituted by a branched or a linear side‐chain. The chemical structure of the copolymers and their precursors was confirmed by NMR and IR spectroscopies, and their molar masses were estimated by SEC. Thermal analysis under N2 atmosphere showed no weight loss below 329°C, and no glass transition was observed in between 0 and 250°C. The band gaps of all PCBTs evaluated by optical spectroscopies and by cyclic voltammetry analysis were consistent with expectations and ranged between 2.2 and 2.3 eV.
