This paper reports an experimental investigation of premixed propane and methane-air flames propagating freely in tubes 1.5?m long and with diameters ranging from 26 to 141?mm. The thermo-acoustic instability was eliminated by means of a novel acoustic absorber placed at the closed end of the tube. We first remark that the flame can adopt different shapes either quasi-axisymmetric and normal to the mean direction of propagation, or inclined with a larger propagation speed because of the increase in flame surface area. The minima of the propagation speeds, corresponding to non-tilted flame propagation, are then analyzed using analytical models for the self-turbulent flame propagation. The concept of a cut-off wavelength appears to be relevant to explain the different behaviors observed on the rich side of methane-air and propane-air flames. 相似文献

N‐Carboxyanhydride ring‐opening polymerization (NCA ROP) is a synthetically straightforward methodology to generate homopolypeptides. Extensive control over the polymerization permits the production of highly monodisperse synthetic polypeptides to a targeted molecular weight in the absence of unfavorable side reactions. Sequential NCA ROP permits the creation of block copolypeptides composed of individual polypeptide blocks boasting different functionalities, secondary structures, and desirable chemical properties. Consequently, a plethora of novel materials have been generated that have found wide‐range applicability. The antioxidant activities-expressed as the electron-donating properties-of five hydrophilic carotenoids (carotenoid surfactants) and three related hydrophobic carotenoids were investigated by flash photolysis. The electron-transfer rates of the carotenoids to the triplet state of the sensitizer 2-nitronaphthalene and the energy transfer rates of triplet 2-nitronaphthalene to the carotenoids were determined. The results demonstrate that the electron-donating effects of the hydrophilic and hydrophobic carotenoids were comparable when evaluated in acetonitrile. In the presence of water, however, electron transfer (i.e., antioxidant efficiency) was enhanced by a factor of four for the hydrophilic carotenoids. The increased hydrophilicity of carotenoids, therefore, could expand their antioxidant properties, thus facilitating their use as aqueous-phase radical scavengers. At the same time, it was shown that supramolecular assembly ("aggregation") of the amphiphilic carotenoids prevented electron transfer, thus deactivating the antioxidant function. Modulation of the biophysical properties of carotenoids through synthetic modification is capable of increasing the biological and medical utility of this natural class of predominantly hydrophobic antioxidant compound. 相似文献

Micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography has been explored as an efficient and rapid method of separating the photoproducts of 2′-deoxyuridylyl-(3′-5′)-thymidine (i.e., cis-syn and trans-syn cyclobutane dimers, (6–4) photoproduct, and the related Dewar valence isomer) from normal nucleosides and nucleotides. Three cationic surfactants, dodecyl-, tetradecyl-, and hexadecyltrimethy-lammonium bromide were evaluated and the separations compared with those obtainable with the anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylsulfate. Optimum resolution of the dinucleoside monophosphate photoproducts was obtained using tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide. By use of this detergent the photoproducts could also be separated from other normal constituents in less than 6 min at ?25 kV. Dodecyl- and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide provided some separation between the various species but sodium dodecylsulfate did not separate the UV radiation-induced products from either the parent compound or other dinucleoside monophosphates. Increased interaction between negatively charged solutes and positively charged micelles accounts for the differences. 相似文献

The infrared spectra of eighteen complexes of general formula trans-[Co(NO2) (acac)2 (R-C6H4NH2)] (acac = acetylacetonate anion, R = 3- or 4-aniline substituent) are discussed. 15N-Labelling of the complexes containing aniline and p-toluidine yields assignments of the N-H, C-N and Co-N stretching frequencies and the N-H bending frequencies. These assignments receive support from the observed frequency shifts induced by varying the substituent R which also permits the assignment of the Co-o stretching frequencies. 相似文献

Composite electrodes were prepared from chemical vapor deposition grown carbon nanofibers consisting predominantly of ca.
100 nm diameter fibers. A hydrophobic sol–gel matrix based on a methyl-trimethoxysilane precursor was employed and composites
formed with carbon nanofiber or carbon nanofiber—carbon particle mixtures (carbon ceramic electrode). Scanning electron microscopy
images and electrochemical measurements show that the composite materials exhibit high surface area with some degree of electrolyte
solution penetration into the electrode. These electrodes were modified with redox probe solution in 2-nitrophenyloctylether.
A second type of composite electrode was prepared by simple pasting of carbon nanofibers and the same solution (carbon paste
electrode). For both types of electrodes it is shown that high surface area carbon nanofibers dominate the electrode process
and enhance voltammetric currents for the transfer of anions at liquid|liquid phase boundaries presumably by extending the
triple-phase boundary. Both anion insertion and cation expulsion processes were observed driven by the electro-oxidation of
decamethylferrocene within the organic phase. A stronger current response is observed for the more hydrophobic anions like
ClO4− or PF6− when compared to that for the more hydrophilic anions like F− and SO42−.
