<Emphasis Type="Italic">Λ</Emphasis>N scattering length from the reaction <Emphasis Type="Italic">γ</Emphasis>d→K<Superscript>+</Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">Λ</Emphasis>n

The prospects of utilizing the strangeness production reaction γd→K ⁺ Λn for the determination of the Λn low-energy scattering parameters are investigated. The spin observables that need to be measured in order to isolate the Λn singlet (¹ S ₀) and triplet (³ S ₁) states are identified. Possible kinematical regions where the extraction of the Λn scattering lengths might be feasible are discussed.

On causality,unitarity and perturbative expansions

We present a pedagogical case study how to combine micro-causality and unitarity based on a perturbative approach. The method we advocate constructs an analytic extrapolation of partial-wave scattering amplitudes that is constrained by the unitarity condition. Suitably constructed conformal mappings help to arrive at a systematic approximation of the scattering amplitude in a quantum-field theoretical context. The technique is illustrated at hand of a Yukawa interaction. The typical case of a superposition of strong short-range and weak long-range forces is investigated.     

Synthesis and separation of diastereoisomeric 1-aryl-3-piperidino(morpholino)-2-phenylpropan-1-ols and their hydrochlorides

1-Aryl-3-piperidino(morpholino)-2-phenylpropan-1-ols were synthesized by reduction of the corresponding 1-aryl-3-piperidino(morpholino)-2-phenylpropan-1-ones with lithium tetrahydridoaluminate, and the products were separated into erythro and threo isomers by fractional crystallization. Their relative configuration and diastereoisomeric purity was determined by ¹H NMR spectroscopy.     

Deuterium release from lithium irradiated by deuterium plasma

Lithium targets are exposed to deuterium plasma with a fluence of 10²²–10²³ D/m² and then heated at a rate of about 5°C/s up to 600°C. Intense deuterium release starts at 400°C. Based on the TDS measurements, it is assumed that deuterium in Li exists in two equilibrium phases: a solid solution and LiD precipitates that start to actively decompose above 400°C.
