Finite difference solution of the transient free-convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid past an impulsively started semi-infinite vertical plate with heat and mass transfer is presented here. The steady state velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are shown graphically. Velocity profiles are compared with exact solution. It has been observed that there is a rise in the velocity due to the presence of a mass diffusion. An increase in Schmidt number, leads to a fall in the velocity. Under certain conditions of liquid flow through rotating channels, the Coriolis force can induce a free surface to be formed. This problem is of practical importance in a Coriolis wear tester, which is used for determining the sliding wear coefficient of wear materials in slurry handling equipment. A deforming Galerkin finite element method is presented for predicting two‐dimensional turbulent free surface mean flow in rotating channels. Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations are cast into weak(algebraic) form using primitive variables (velocity and pressure). Eddy viscosity is determined via a mixing length model. Velocity is interpolated biquadratically, while pressure is interpolated bilinearly. The kinematic condition is used to form the Galerkin residual for the free surface. The free surface is represented by Hermite polynomials of zeroeth order for continuity of position and slope. Combined Newton's iteration is used to simultaneously solve for the free surface and the field variables. Results of velocity and pressure fields, as well as the free surface are shown to converge with mesh‐size refinement. There is excellent respect for mass conservation. Results are presented for various values of Rossby number (Ro) and height‐based Reynolds number (ReH). Parameter continuation in Ro and ReH space is used to compute solutions at higher values of flow rate and angular velocity. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Compositionally modulated (CM) films of Co-Nb have been prepared by sequential evaporation onto Si substrates using two E-guns fitted in an UHV system. The thickness of the Co sublayer was varied in the range 50 to 105 Å and that of Nb in the range 18 to 90 Å. A single layer Co film of about 850 Å was also prepared and studied. Magnetization was measured using a VSM at 290 K. FMR was observed at about 9.8 GHz in the range 3 to 290 K. For Co a layer thickness of 50 Å the magnetization in CM film is about 12% lower at 4.2 K, as compared to the bulk value. The FMR spectrum of single layer Co film shows a single absorption in the perpendicular configuration with a narrow line width of 40 Oe. Other properties of this film agree with those published in the literature. In CM films, multiple absorption modes are observed. A small perpendicular anisoropy is also measured. The magnetization in all the samples varies at T3/2. The Curie temperature of CM films is lower than that of bulk Co. The resonance line width in CM films at lower temperatures, increases much faster than in Co film.  相似文献

Three diastereomers of burkholdac B were prepared by total synthesis, enabling the full stereochemical assignment of the natural product. It is proposed that burkholdac B is identical to thailandepsin A independently isolated by Cheng from the same strain of Burkholderia thailandensis . Burkholdac B is the most potent among depsipeptide histone deacetylase inhibitors in growth inhibition of the MCF7 breast cancer cell line with an IC(50) of 60 pM.  相似文献

Silk from the domesticated silk worm Bombyx mori procures foreign body response naturally, so it has been utilized as a biomaterial for decades. In India the prime focus of the sericulture industry is to improve silk production with high quality silk. Naturally, the silk worm builds its cocoon not only with silk proteins, but also with antimicrobial proteins to avoid infection since the cocoon is non-motile and non-feeding. The aim of the present study is to elucidate the antimicrobial proteins that persist in the cocoon of the silk worm Bombyx mori. At the pupal stage, the silk worm cocoon shell extract was prepared from the day of pupation (P0) to the day of natural rupture of the cocoon for the eclosion of moth (NR). Using the cocoon shell extract a microbial susceptibility test was performed by the disc diffusion method against the microbes Escherchia coli, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The development of a zone of inhibition against the microbes confirmed the presence of antimicrobial/immunogenic activity of the cocoon shell extract. For further analysis, the cocoon shell extract was subjected to 7-15% sodium dodecyl sulfate/polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The protein profile of the cocoon extract revealed the coomassie blue stained bands resolved from the 150-15 kDa molecular range. Interestingly, a polypeptide localized at around 29 kDa showed remarkable expressional changes during the development of pupa. To characterize the 29 kDa protein, it was eluted from the gel, digested with trypsin and analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). The trypsin-digested peptide peaks were analyzed through MASCOT and peptides were matched with the NCBI nr database. The peptides were very well matched with the 18 wheeler protein, which is reported to be responsible for innate immunity, belonging to the Toll family in insects and responsible for cellular mediated immunity.  相似文献

The Fourier transform infrared spectra, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra of 2-furoic hydrazide have been recorded. Optimized geometry, frequency and intensity of the vibrational bands of 2-furoic hydrazide were obtained by the density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio levels of theory and also 1H NMR, 13C NMR chemical shifts were calculated using 6-31G+(d,p) basis sets.
