Using nonlinear ellipse rotation in a gas-filled hollow waveguide, we have increased the pulse contrast of a microjoule femtosecond laser pulse by several orders of magnitude. This scheme offers a number of advantages over competing techniques, including a high degree of tunability that allows for a broad range of input pulse parameters, higher throughput, greater stability, and an output pulse with high spatial quality that is compressible to a quarter of the original temporal width. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Directed Rural Postman Problem with Turn Penalties (DRPP-TP). A solution is a tour that traverses all required arcs of the graph. The total cost of the tour is the sum of the lengths of the traversed arcs plus the penalties associated with the turns. One solution approach involves transforming the arc routing problem into an equivalent node routing problem. An alternative direct approach (without graph transformation) that involves two stages has been proposed in the literature. In the first part of this paper, we investigate the applicability of the direct approach. We identify several characteristics of the input instance that make this approach effective and present several limitations of this approach. In the second part of this paper, we describe an integer linear program that is combined with a local search algorithm. This combination produces high-quality solutions to the DRPP-TP in a reasonable amount of computing time. 相似文献

We study the performance of Fictitious Play (FP), when used as a heuristic for finding an approximate Nash equilibrium of a two-player game. We exhibit a class of two-player games having payoffs in the range $[0,1]$ that show that FP fails to find a solution having an additive approximation guarantee significantly better than $1/2$ . Our construction shows that for $n\times n$ games, in the worst case both players may perpetually have mixed strategies whose payoffs fall short of the best response by an additive quantity $1/2 - O(1/n^{1-\delta })$ for arbitrarily small $\delta $ . The notion of energy–momentum, or energy–stress, pertains typically to electromagnetism. Eshelby transferred such a notion into elasticity in 1951 and, afterward, into continuum mechanics, in order to account for the force acting on a material defect. Similarities and differences between the Maxwell tensor of electromagnetism and the Eshelby tensor are shown and commented hereby. Basing on a Lagrangian approach to electromagnetic materials, canonical momenta are shown to emerge in a natural way. On the basis of these canonical quantities, one can introduce the material momentum (or pseudomomentum) along with the classical momentum and the material stress (Eshelby stress) along with the Maxwell stress, which is a Cauchy-like stress. 相似文献

In this work, given a positive definite matrix A, we introduce a class of matrices related to A, which is obtained by suitably combining projections of its powers onto algebras of matrices simultaneously diagonalized by a unitary transform. After a detailed theoretical study of some spectral properties of the matrices of this class, which suggests their use as regularizing preconditioners, we prove that such matrices can be cheaply computed when the matrix A has a Toeplitz structure. Carbocation catalysis can be performed inside the confined space of the hexameric resorcinarene capsule. The inner cavity of the capsule can host the trityl carbocation, which catalyses the Diels–Alder reaction between dienes and unsaturated aldehydes. Experimental results and in silico calculations show that the hexameric resorcinarene capsule C6 can promote the formation of the trityl carbocation from trityl chloride through the cleavage of the carbon–halogen bond promoted by OH⋯X− hydrogen bonding. Here it is shown that the combination of the nanoconfined space and the latent carbocation catalysis provides a convenient complementary strategy for the typical carbocation catalysis. The latent strategy bypasses the typical pitfalls associated with active carbocations and provides control of the reaction efficiency in terms of reaction rate, conversion, and selectivity.The hexameric resorcinarene capsule is able to promote carbocation catalysis inside its cavity. 相似文献

To avoid photodamage, photosynthetic organisms have developed mechanisms to evade or dissipate excess energy. Lumen overacidification caused by light‐induced electron transport triggers quenching of excited chlorophylls and dissipation of excess energy into heat. In higher plants participation of the PsbS protein as the sensor of low lumenal pH was clearly demonstrated. Although light‐dependent energy quenching is a property of all photosynthetic organisms, large differences in amplitude and kinetics can be observed thus raising the question whether a single common mechanism is in action. We performed a detailed study of PsbS expression/accumulation in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and investigated its accumulation in other algae and plants. We showed that PsbS cannot be detected in Chlamydomonas under a wide range of growth conditions. Overexpression of the endogenous psbs gene showed that the corresponding protein could not be addressed to the thylakoid membranes. Survey of different unicellular green algae showed no accumulation of anti‐PsbS reactive proteins differently from multicellular species. Nevertheless, some unicellular species exhibit high energy quenching activity, suggesting that a PsbS‐independent mechanism is activated. By correlating growth habitat and PsbS accumulation in different species, we suggest that during the evolution the light environment has been a determinant factor for the conservation/loss of the PsbS function. 相似文献
