The influence of surface pressure and subphase temperature on the association of arborescent polystyrene- graft-poly(ethylene oxide) (PS- g-PEO) copolymers at the air-water interface was investigated using the Langmuir balance and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. These dendritic molecules form stable condensed monolayers with surface compressional moduli >250 mN/m. The variation in film thickness observed as a function of surface pressure suggests that at low surface pressures (gaslike phase) the PEO chains remain adsorbed at the air-water interface. At higher surface pressures (condensed phase), the PEO chains partially desorb into the subphase and adopt a more brushlike conformation. Large islandlike clusters with a broad size distribution were observed for samples with PEO contents of up to 15% by weight. In contrast, copolymers with PEO contents of 22-43% displayed enhanced side-by-side association into ribbonlike superstructures upon compression. The same effect was observed even in the absence of compression when the subphase temperature was increased from 12 to 27 degrees C. The temperature-induced association was attributed to increased van der Waals attractive forces between the PS cores relative to the steric repulsive forces between PEO chains in the coronas because the solvent quality for the PEO segments decreased at higher temperatures. The restricted number of superstructures observed for arborescent copolymers as compared with linear- and star-branched PS-PEO block copolymers is attributed to the enhanced structural rigidity of the molecules due to branching.  相似文献

The preparation, spectroscopic characterization and magnetic study of N,N′-bis(substituted-phenyl)oxamidate-bridged nickel(II) dinuclear complexes of formula {[Ni(N3-mc)]2(μ-CONC6H4-X)}(PF6)2 (N3-mc = 2,4,4-trimethyl-1,5,9-triazacyclo-dodec-1-ene (Me3-N3-mc) or 2,4,4,9-tetramethyl-1,5,9-triazacyclododec-1-ene (Me4-N3-mc), X = 2-Cl, 4-Cl, 2-OCH3, 4-OCH3) are reported. These paramagnetic nickel(II) complexes have been characterized by both one- and two-dimensional (COSY) 1H NMR techniques. The COSY spectrum of 5 has allowed to achieve the assignment of the phenyl protons of the N,N′-diphenyloxamidate. The crystal structures of [Ni(Me3-N3-mc)(μ-CONC6H4-4-Cl)]2(PF6)2 (6), [Ni(Me3-N3-mc)(μ-CONC6H4-4-OMe)]2(PF6)2 (8) and [Ni(Me4-N3-mc)(μ-CONC6H4-2-Cl)]2(PF6)2 (9) have been determined and their magnetic properties have been studied. The value of magnetic coupling between the two nickel(II) ions across the oxamidate bridge [J = − 37.6 (6), −39.9 (8) and −39.7 cm−1 (9)] is sensitive to the distortion of the coordination sphere of the metal ions and the topology of the molecular bridge.  相似文献

Electrolytes confined by spherical, cylindrical, and slit-like charged nanopores are studied. Results for ionic distribution profiles, pressures of the confined fluid, and absorption isotherms are obtained through the hypernetted chain/mean spherical approximation (HNC/MSA) integral equations theory. In spherical and cylindrical geometries, an inward, non-monotonic behavior of the pressure is found as confinement increases, implying a negative compressibility. The pressure vs volume isotherms resemble liquid-vapor van der Waals-like phase transition diagrams. This effect is correlated with a charge separation inside a spherical pore previously reported (Phys. Rev. Lett., 79, 3656, 1997). Here, the mechanism of charge separation and negative compressibility are explored in detail. When compared with the slit-like pore pressure, important qualitative differences are found.  相似文献

The collisionless photodissociation dynamics of isobutene (i-C(4)H(8)) at 193 nm via photofragment translational spectroscopy are reported. Two major photodissociation channels were identified: H + C(4)H(7) and CH(3) + CH(3)CCH(2). Translational energy distributions indicate that both channels result from statistical decay on the ground state surface. Although the CH(3) loss channel lies 13 kcal mol(-1) higher in energy, the CH(3):H branching ratio was found to be 1.7 (5), in reasonable agreement with RRKM calculations.  相似文献

Electrocatalytic proton reduction leading to the formation of adsorbed molecular hydrogen on gold nanoparticles of 1-3 and 14-16 nm diameter stabilized by 1-mercapto-undecane-11-tetra(ethyleneglycol) has been demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry using a hanging mercury drop electrode. The nanoparticles were adsorbed to the electrode from aqueous dispersion and formed robust surface layers transferrable to fresh base electrolyte solutions. Unique electrocatalytic proton redox chemistry was observed that has no comparable counterpart in the electrochemistry of bulk gold electrodes. Depending on size, the nanoparticles have a discrete number of electrocatalytically active sites for the two-electron/two-proton reduction process. The adsorbed hydrogen formed is oxidized with the reverse potential sweep. These findings represent a new example of qualitative different behavior of nanoparticles in comparison with the corresponding bulk material.  相似文献

Hydrogen (δ2H) and oxygen (δ18O) stable isotope analysis is useful when tracing the origin of water in beverages, but traditional analytical techniques are limited to pure or extracted waters. We measured the isotopic composition of extracted beverage water using both isotope ratio infrared spectroscopy (IRIS; specifically, wavelength‐scanned cavity ring‐down spectroscopy) and isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS). We also analyzed beer, sodas, juices, and milk ‘as is’ using IRIS. For IRIS analysis, four sequential injections of each sample were measured and data were corrected for sample‐to‐sample memory using injections (a) 1‐4, (b) 2‐4, and (c) 3‐4. The variation between δ2H and δ18O values calculated using the three correction methods was larger for unextracted (i.e., complex) beverages than for waters. The memory correction was smallest when using injections 3‐4. Beverage water δ2H and δ18O values generally fit the Global Meteoric Water Line, with the exception of water from fruit juices. The beverage water stable isotope ratios measured using IRIS agreed well with the IRMS data and fit 1:1 lines, with the exception of sodas and juices (δ2H values) and beers (δ18O values). The δ2H and δ18O values of waters extracted from beer, soda, juice, and milk were correlated with complex beverage δ2H and δ18O values (r = 0.998 and 0.997, respectively) and generally fit 1:1 lines. We conclude that it is possible to analyze complex beverages, without water extraction, using IRIS although caution is needed when analyzing beverages containing sugars, which can clog the syringe and increase memory, or alcohol, a known spectral interference. Commodity futures have long been used to facilitate risk management and inventory stabilization. The study of commodity futures prices has attracted much attention in the literature because they are highly volatile and because commodities represent a large proportion of the export value in many developing countries. Previous research has found apparently contradictory findings about the presence of long memory or more generally, long-range dependence. This note investigates the nature of long-range dependence in the volatility of 14 energy and agricultural commodity futures price series using the improved Hurst coefficient (H) estimator of Abry, Teyssière and Veitch. This estimator is motivated by the ability of wavelets to detect self-similarity and also enables a test for the stability of H. The results show evidence of long-range dependence for all 14 commodities and of a non-stationary H for 9 of 14 commodities.  相似文献
