Pion correlations and resonance effects in \bar{p}p annihilation to 4\pi^0 at rest

We study correlations in the exclusive reaction at rest with complete reconstruction of the kinematics for each event. The inclusive distribution is fairly flat at small invariant mass of the pion pair while a small enhancement in the double differential distribution is observed for small invariant masses of both pion pairs. Dynamical models with resonances in the final state are shown to be consistent with the data while the stochastic HBT mechanism is not supported by the present findings. Time delay as a key to apoptosis induction in the p53 network

A feedback mechanism that involves the proteins p53 and mdm2, induces cell death as a controlled response to severe DNA damage. A minimal model for this mechanism demonstrates that the response may be dynamic and connected with the time needed to translate the mdm2 protein. The response takes place if the dissociation constant k between p53 and mdm2 varies from its normal value. Although it is widely believed that it is an increase in k that triggers the response, we show that the experimental behaviour is better described by a decrease in the dissociation constant. The response is quite robust upon changes in the parameters of the system, as required by any control mechanism, except for few weak points, which could be connected with the onset of cancer. Stoner-Wohlfarth-type behavior of a close-packed array of high-anisotropy hexaferrite nanoparticles

Magnetization and remagnetization processes in a close-packed nanodispersed barium hexaferrite powder sample in the magnetically stable state were analyzed. Reversibility effects were discussed in terms of interparticle interaction. Judging from the magnetization curve and the parameters characterizing remagnetization irreversibility, the sample under study is a model system of small Stoner-Wohlfarth particles.     

Analytic Properties of the Transition Admittance of an Infinite Plate in a medium and the Regularization of Boundary-Contact Integrals in Acoustics

A condition for regularization of boundary-contact integrals in two-dimensional problems of acoustics is considered. With an example of the simplest boundary-contact problem of acoustics, it is shown that a known sufficient condition for regularization is also a necessary one. The study of analytic properties of the transition admittance of an infinite plate that is in contact with a medium is conducted in order to obtain this statement. The considerations are carried out in general terms. The results obtained may be used in arbitrary models of plate theory, and they also may be adapted to boundary-contact problems of another physical nature. Bibliography: 9 titles.     

Pseudomeasure character of the ultraspherical semigroups

We prove that the diffusion semigroups generated by the second order differential ultraspherical (Gegenbauer) operator are pseudomeasure operators.     

Relativistic Notion of Mass and a Resolution of a Conflict Between Schopenhauer and Hegel

We discuss a mass change that has its origin in the action of forces on an object. This phenomenon, well-known in the context of quantum field theory (mass renormalization), can be discussed systematically in both classical and quantum mechanics in a framework given by Stückelberg. We employ this framework to resolve an interesting conflict of opinions between Schopenhauer and Hegel in the mid-19th century. We show that Hegel, Kant, and Schopenhauer demonstrated remarkable prescience in their views as seen from a modern perspective.
