Investigation of solvability of the multidimensional two-phase Stefan and the nonstationary filtration Florin problems for second order parabolic equations in weighted Hölder spaces of functions

Multidimensional two-phase Stefan (k=1) and nonstationary filtration Florin (k=0) problems for second order parabolic equations in the case when the free boundary is a graph of a functionx _n =Ψ _k (x′t),x′∈ ^n?1 ,n≥2,t∈(0,T) are studied. A unique solvability theorem in weighted Hölder spaces of functions with time power weight is proved, coercive estimates for solutions are obtained. Bibliography: 30 titles.     

A Geometric characterization of the perfect Suzuki-Tits ovoids

We characterize in a geometrical way those Suzuki-Tits ovoids which are defined over a perfect fieidK (or equivalently living inside a self polar symplectic quadrangle). We simplify our axioms in the particular cases that (1) the associated Suzuki group has exactly two orbits in the set of lines ofPG(3,K), and (2) the ovoid is finite.Senior Research Associate at the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research     

Logarithmic temperature dependence of the conductivity of the two-dimensional metal

We report on the first observation and studies of a weak delocalizing logarithmic temperature dependence of the conductivity, which causes the conductivity of the 2D metal to increase as T decreases down to 16 mK. The prefactor of the logarithmic dependence is found to decrease gradually with density, to vanish at a critical density n _c , 2∼2×10¹² cm⁻², and then to have the opposite sign at n>n _c ,2. The second critical density sets the upper limit on the existence region of the 2D metal, whereas the conductivity at the critical point, G _c ,2∼120e ²/h, sets an upper (low-temperature) limit on its conductivity. Heterogeneous photobleaching in confocal microscopy

Photobleaching was studied during recording of confocal scanning laser microscopy. Studies on fluorescent gels of FITC-labeled dextran were used to evaluate differential bleaching along thez-axis. Differential bleaching along the z-axis was observed and it was seen that this was related to the numerical aperture of the objective in use. This points to the conclusion that photon energy flux density is an important parameter in photobleaching. To check if photon energy flux density heterogeneity is affected by local variation in the refractive index of the sample, photobleaching rates were calculated for different fluorescent objects (sections of seeds, animal cells stained with nuclear stains, immunocytochemistry preparations) and a pronounced similarity was found between photobleaching rates and DIC images.
