Mechanism of detachment of particles from the surface of high-temperature superconducting targets absorbing laser pulses

A cluster mechanism is considered for the detachment of particles when the surface of a high-temperature superconducting target absorbs laser pulses. By proposing a fractal nature for the surface, one can model it as an assembly of a large number of nonlinear oscillators (clusters). Utilizing the method of sudden perturbations, a calculation was made of the probability of dissociation of these oscillators, i.e., of the detachment of clusters from the surface. The calculated probability decreases rapidly as the power density of the laser radiation is reduced to some limiting value. This is in agreement with experiments. Minimax estimators of spectral intensities of acoustic sources

We investigate some issues of minimax estimation of spectral intensity of acoustic sources in cases when the noise and the spectral amplitudes satisfy quadratic constraints. Oxidation of olefins with alkanesulfoperacids

Alkanesulfonic peracids RSO₄H effectively oxidize olefins to the corresponding epoxides. The kinetics and mechanism of this reaction are studied. It was shown that both the monomer and dimer form of the peracid act as oxidizing agents. The dependence of the weight constant of the reaction of monomer RSO₄H with substituted acyclic olefins on the structure of the latter is described by the Taft equation. Cylindrical solitons in a Gödel Universe and their stability

Exact cylindrically symmetric solutions are obtained for a class of interacting scalar and vector fields in a rotating Godel Universe. We select those with the properties of solitons with smooth decrease of the fields to asymptotics and those with sharp boundaries (droplets). The prediction of the peak width at half height in HPLC

The prediction of the peak width at half height is an important aspect in the optimization of the chromatographic operating conditions. In this paper, a linear relationship, between the peak widths at half height and the retention values with various isocratic elution is observed. In gradient elution, however, the relationship between the peak widths at half height and the so-called invented retention values that correspond to the mobile phase composition by eluting the solute from the column end is developed. We believe that there is almost the same band width at half height inside the column (in unit of length) for different solutes. The peak width at half height in the chromatogram (in unit of time) is mainly determined by the capacity factor of the solute when it is eluted from the column end. The larger the capacity factor of a solute eluted from the column end, the more slowly will be the solute eluted from the column end and the wider will be the peak width at half height. It is possible to predict the peak width at half height in various isocratic and gradient elutions by using this linear relationship.     

Excitation of middle-IR range hollow metallic waveguides

The results of the efficiency of low-mode excitation of a parallel-plate hollow metallic waveguides (HMW) as a function of beam and waveguide parameters are represented. Coupling of two waveguides is also discussed.     

151Eu Mössbauer studies on Eu1+x Ba2−x Cu3O7+δ oxide systems

Mössbauer parameters of¹⁵¹Eu in Eu_1+x Ba_2?x Cu₃O_7+δ have been studied as a function of temperature, forx=0.15 andx=0.25. The areas of the absorption spectra for the two samples are almost equal. This could mean that thef-Mössbauer factor for¹⁵¹Eu at the barium sites is much smaller than that for¹⁵¹Eu at the rare earth sites, i.e. we only observe the spectra of the latter sites. According to this, the fits of the spectra with a single quadrupolar pattern and with two quadrupolar patterns have given equivalent χ² values.
