Application of shielded column liquid chromatography for determination of sulfamonomethoxine, sulfadimethoxine, and their N4-acetyl metabolites in milk

A hazardous-chemical free method for simultaneous determination of sulfamonomethoxine (SMM), sulfadimethoxine (SDM), and their N4-acetyl metabolites in raw milk using shielded column liquid chromatography is developed. The target analytes are extracted by mixing with ethanol-acetic acid (97:3, v/v) followed by centrifugation. The procedure uses a Hisep shielded hydrophobic phase (SHP) column, isocratic elution with 0.1% acetic acid solution (pH 3.1, in water)-ethanol (75:25, v/v), and a photo-diode array detector. Average recoveries from samples spiked at 25-500 ng/ml for each drug were >81% with relative standard deviations within 5%. The limits of quantitation were <25 ng/ml.     

Simplified liquid-chromatographic determination of residues of tetracycline antibiotics in eggs

Summary A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) procedure is described for the identification and quantification of residues of tetracycline antibiotics (TCA) (oxytetracycline, tetracycline, chlortetracycline, and doxycycline), in eggs. Spiked and blank samples were prepared by homogenization with 1∶1 (v/v) acetonitrile-mixed Mcllvaine buffer and EDTA solution (pH 4.0) then centrifugal ultrafiltration. HPLC was performed on a reversed-phase column with acetonitrile-5% (v/v) aqueous acetic acid, 35∶65 (v/v), as mobile phase and photo-diode array detection. Average recoveries (each drug spiked at 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 μg g⁻¹) were >-77% with standard deviations (SD) between 1.5 and 3.5%. The inter-assay variabilities and theirSD were <3.4% and <0.7%, respectively, and intra-assay variability was between 2.0 and 3.9%. The limits of quantitation (LOQ) were 0.064 0.087, 0.121, and 0.131 μg g⁻¹ for OTC, TC, CTC, and DC, respectively. The total time required for the analysis of one sample was less than 30 min.     

Explicit formulas for the waldspurger and bessel models

This paper studies certain models of irreducible admissible representations of the split special orthogonal group SO(2n+1) over a nonarchimedean local field. Ifn=1, these models were considered by Waldspurger. Ifn=2, they were considered by Novodvorsky and Piatetski-Shapiro, who called them Bessel models. In the works of these authors, uniqueness of the models is established; in this paper functional equations and explicit formulas for them are obtained. As a global application, the Bessel period of the Eisenstein series on SO(2n+1) formed with a cuspidal automorphic representation π on GL(n) is computed—it is shown to be a product of L-series. This generalizes work of Böcherer and Mizumoto forn=2 and base field ?, and puts it in a representation-theoretic context. In an appendix by M. Furusawa, a new Rankin-Selberg integral is given for the standardL-function on SO(2n+1)×GL(n). The local analysis of the integral is carried out using the formulas of the paper.     

Determination of l-alanine in a flow-injection system with an immobilized enzyme reactor

A flow-injection system for the determination of l-alanine is described. Alanine dehydrogenase is immobilized on poly(vinyl alcohol) beads and used in a packed-bed enzyme reactor. The system responds linearly to injected samples (50 μl) in the concentration range 0.5–500 μM. The maximum throughput was 40 samples per hour. The immobilized enzyme reactor was stable for at least 6 weeks. Its usefulness for assay of l-alanine in serum and beverages is described.     

Rotational isomerism of a resveratrol tetramer, shoreaketone, in Shorea uliginosa

A new resveratrol tetramer, shoreaketone, was isolated from the stem bark of Shorea uliginosa (Dipterocarpaceae). The structure and the relative configuration were confirmed on the basis of 1D- and 2D-NMR spectral data. The structure has a novel framework of fused heptacyclic ring system including an α,β-unsaturated carbonyl group. In NMR spectra, shoreaketone is observed as two different conformers due to rotational isomerism.     

Collaborative studies of zeta-potential measurements and electrophoretic measurements using reference sample

Simultaneous measurements of zeta-potential for two standard latex suspensions were carried out so as to assess the reliability of each of these measurement techniques and find means for their improvement. Furthermore, syntheses of a reference particle dispersion stabilized sterically in an aqueous medium without any electrostatic effects and measurements of zeta-potential using the reference dispersion as a standard were performed under various experimental conditions. It became apparent that the dense adsorption layer of hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), with a lower critical solution temperature (LCST), formed on latex particles with a low surface charge density at temperatures higher than the LCST, plays a role in completely shielding the electrostatic effect arising from the surface charge on the bare particles. Such reference particles with zero zeta-potential allow us to determine the electrophoretic mobility of unknown samples at the one-half depth in the electrophoretic cell by subtracting the mobility of the reference sample at the same level. Furthermore, the zeta-potential of the cell wall can be easily determined from the mobility of the reference sample, because the apparent velocity profile of the reference sample indicates the liquid flow velocity in the cell.     

Hyperfine field at impurity Gd nuclei in TbT2 and TbT3 compounds (T = Fe and Co)

The time integral γ-γ perturbed angular correlation has been measured on ¹⁵⁶Gd nuclei in TbFe₂, TbFe₃, TbCo₂ and TbCo₃ compounds.

An obvious correlation is indicated between the hyperfine fields at Gd and Tb nuclei in corresponding compounds, and experimental results are discussed.
