Studies on the syntheses of heterocyclic compounds. Part DCXLIV . Catalytic reduction of homoproaporphine related compounds

Hydrogenation of the homoproaporphine (IV) over platinum oxide gave a mixture of the cyclohexanols VIIa and VIIb. In contrast, reduction of IV on palladium provided the cyclo-hexanone VI, which was also obtained from VIIb by oxidation. Treatment of the cyclohexanols VIIa and VIIb under hydrogen on platinum oxide afforded the same mixture of VIIa and VIIb.     

The chemistry of O-silylated ketene acetals; diastereoselective Aldol reaction of 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D (and L)-glyceraldehydes leading to 2-deoxy-D (and L)-riboses

Diastereoselective carbon-carbon bond forming reaction of 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D (and L)-glyceraldehydes (D and L-2) with ketene silyl acetals (1a,b) occurred in acetonitrile under mild conditions to give the corresponding $\text{anti}$-β-siloxyesters (D and L-3a) as major products, which could be converted through a few additional steps to 2-deoxy-D(and L)-riboses.     

Synthesis and reaction of a new type of 5-deazaflavin with axial and planar chirality

A new type of 5-deazaflavin derivative with axial and planar chirality was synthesized as a flavoenzyme model. A novel optical resolution gave an enantiomeric pair of the 5-deazaflavins 1a,b. Compounds1a,b were optically stable and effectively discriminated PNPH enantiomers in a model reaction of intercoenzyme hydrogen transfer.     

Adsorption of anionic chloro complexes of 59Fe and 195Au on non-ionic resins of macro-reticular type

Adsorption behavior of 59Fe and 195Au on the non-ionic macro-reticular resin, Amberlite XAD-7 is studied. Distribution coefficients (Kd) for both nuclides in hydrochloric acid or lithium chloride solutions above 6M are particularly high. In nitric acid solution below 2M, 195Au is highly adsorbed on the resin but 59Fe is negligible over any concentrations. This resin did not adsorb other important radionuclides such as 54Mn, 60Co, 65Zn, 90Sr, 106Ru, 137Cs and 144Ce at all. Based on such peculiar adsorption behavior, application to selective separation and determination of radio and stable iron in sea water was also studied.     

Base promoted oxidative decarboxylation of ethyl phenylglycinate via oxaziridine

Base catalyzed decompositions of 2-(α-ethoxycarbonyl-benzyl)-3-phenyl-oxaziridines carried out in benzene in an atmosphere of oxygen yielded N-benzoyl benzamides along with ethyl phenylglyoxylate imine and benzaldehydes.     

Studies on vocal fold injection and changes in pitch associated with alcohol intake

The current study was carried out with particular emphasis on the association between phonetic function tests and alterations in the appearance of the hypopharyngeal and laryngeal mucosa, such as capillary dilatation, edema, and vocal fold injection after alcohol intake. The results demonstrated the occurrence of previously unrecognized pathophysiological changes associated with synchronous phonetic functions in the vocal pathway after alcohol intake. Serum ethanol and aldehyde concentration levels were evaluated hourly for 2.5 h after ingestion of alcohol. When an electronystagmogram showed the typical pattern of alcohol intake, the study was initiated. Occasionally, rhinography was performed on subjects complaining of a stuffy nose after alcohol intake.
