Highly fluorescent water-soluble CdSe/ZnS (core/shell) quantum dots (QDs) as a fluorescent Cu2+ ion probe were synthesized using thiacalix[4]arene carboxylic acid (TCC) as a surface coating agent. Hydrophobic trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) capped CdSe/ZnS QDs were overcoated with TCC in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature, and deprotonation of the carboxyl groups of TCC resulted in the formation of water-soluble QDs. The surface structure of the QDs was characterized by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS). TEM images showed that TCC-coated QDs were monodispersed with the particle size (core-shell moiety) of approximately 5 nm. Hydrodynamic diameter of the TCC-coated QDs was determined to be 8.9 nm by FCS, showing that the thickness of the surface organic layer of the QDs was approximately 2 nm. These results indicate that the surface layer of TCC-coated QDs forms a bilayer structure consisting of TOPO and TCC molecules. TCC-coated CdSe/ZnS QDs were highly fluorescent (quantum yield, 0.21) compared to the QDs surface-modified with mercaptoacetic acid and mercaptoundecanoic acid. Fluorescence of the TCC-coated QDs was effectively quenched by Cu2+ ions even in the presence of other transition metal ions such as Cd2+, Zn2+, Co2+, Fe2+, and Fe3+ ions in the same solution. The Stern-Volmer plot for the fluorescence quenching by Cu2+ ions showed a linear relationship up to 30 microM of Cu2+ ions. The ion selectivity of TCC-coated QDs was determined by measurements of fluorescence responses towards biologically important transition metal ions (50 microM) including Fe2+, Fe3+, Co2+>Zn2+, Cd2+. The fluorescence of TCC-coated QDs was almost insensitive to other biologically important ions such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, and Ca2+, suggesting that TCC-coated QDs can be used as a fluorescent Cu2+ ion probe for biological samples. A possible quenching mechanism by Cu2+ ions was also discussed on the basis of a Langmuir-type adsorption isotherm. 相似文献

A cw Pr(3+):LiYF(4) laser at 639 nm pumped by a high-power GaN laser diode (444 nm) is demonstrated. The highest laser power of 112 mW is achieved with an optical-optical conversion efficiency of 33.5%. Summary: Conducting polyaniline (PANI) and montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were prepared from aniline sulfate and MMT by a mechanochemical synthesis route. X‐Ray diffraction analysis confirmed that, by controlling the aniline sulfate content, mechanochemical synthesis led to two types of different formations. After polymerization, the mechanochemical route synthesized much more PANI between the clay layers compared to a solution method. The electrical conductivities of the synthesized PANI‐MMT nanocomposites in pressed pellets ranged in the order of between 10−4 and 10−3 S · cm−1.

This paper theoretically studies thermoreversible gelation driven by aggregation of helices formed on the polymer chains. Two fundamentally different cases of (i) multiple association of single helices and (ii) association by multiple helices with multiplicity k (such as double helices (k=2), triple helices (k=3), etc.) are treated on the basis of different equations. The helix length distribution on a polymer chain (or assemble of chains for multiple helices) is derived as a function of polymer concentration and temperature. Theoretical calculation of the total helix content in the solution is compared with experimental data of optical rotation in iota-carrageenan solutions at different polymer concentrations. It is shown that at low temperature there is a sharp transition from network to bundle state (pair, triplet, etc.). To confirm such a network/pairing transition, we carried out Monte Carlo simulation of polymer solution in which hydrogen-bonded zipper-like cross-links are formed. 相似文献

In this study, we investigated a combination of nonaqueous CE with capillary gel electrophoresis to achieve highly efficient analysis of metal nanoclusters. In the nonaqueous capillary gel electrophoresis (NACGE), PVA and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose were dissolved in DMSO. In addition, to enhance the entanglement of the polymer chains, Li+ ions were also added. By employing the PVA‒DMSO‒Li+ solution, we studied the effects of the molecular weight, the degree of hydrolysis, and the concentration of the polymers and Li+ on the separation. This article describes the syntheses of various functional star‐shaped polymers via monomer‐selective living cationic polymerization of a vinyl ether (VE) and a divinyl compound with alkoxystyrene moieties by a one‐shot method. An aqueous solution of the resulting star‐shaped polymers with oxyethylene pendants exhibits thermally induced phase separation behavior. To achieve domino synthesis from various monomers, we investigated the optimum reactivity difference using a functional VE and a monofunctional alkoxystyrene.
