Magnesium-butadiene addition compounds: Isolation,structural analysis and chemical reactivity

The magnesium-butadiene 1 : 1 (1), 1 : 2 (II) and 1 : 3 addition compounds obtained by the direct metalation of butadiene with metallic magnesium were isolated. These compounds have a polymeric structure. Structural analysis of these compounds by NMR and IR methods was carried out. The process for the formation of II via I and III via II was investigated. The results of protolysis and alkylation of the above magnesium compounds corresponded well to those of crotylmagnesium compounds.     

The mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen production from gaseous methanol and water: IR spectroscopic approach

IR spectroscopic and volumetric study under reaction conditions of the mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen production from gaseous methanol and water revealed that CO₂ and H₂ were produced by reaction between adsorbed CH₃O(ad) and H₂O. Another reaction path for H₂ production, CH₃ OH(ad) → H₂ + HCHO, was suggested which is dominant in the absence of water.     

Substituent effects on the kinetics for the chemiluminescence reaction of 6-arylimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(7H)-ones (Cypridina luciferin analogues): support for the single electron transfer (SET)-oxygenation mechanism with triplet molecular oxygen

Kinetics of chemiluminescence reactions of 2-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(7H)-one (1c, Cypridina luciferin analogue) and substituent effects of the 6-aryl group of derivatives 1 strongly suggest that the rate-determining step is a single electron transfer from an anion derived from 1 to a triplet molecular oxygen (O₂) in the oxygenation process.     

Difference in electrophoretic mobility and plasmic digestion profile between four recombinant fibrinogens, gamma 308K, gamma 308I, gamma 308A, and wild type (gamma 308N)

We have produced recombinant gamma-chain variant fibrinogens, gamma308K, gamma308I, and gamma308A simultaneously with wild-type fibrinogen, gamma-308N, by genetic protein engineering using Chinese hamster ovary cells. Although all three variant fibrinogens are a result of a single amino acid substitution, the aberrant gamma-chains of gamma308K and gamma308I fibrinogens migrated faster than gamma308N. Furthermore, plasmic digestion profiles were examined in the presence of 5 mM ethylene glycol-bis(beta-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (EGTA) or 1 mM CaCl2. In the presence of EGTA, the three variant fibrinogens were digested into D1 and D2 fragments slightly faster than wild type. In addition, the D2 fragment derived from gamma308K was further digested into D3 by plasmin much faster than that from gamma308N. These data suggest that cleavage of gamma356Lys-gamma357Ala bond by plasmin in gamma308K, gamma308I, and gamma308A is slightly accelerated and the gamma302Lys-gamma303Phe bond is cleaved by plasmin rapidly in only the gamma308K variant. Furthermore, the substitution of Lys for gamma308Asn results in the generation of a new plasmin cleavage site between gamma308Lys and gamma309Gly in the presence of EGTA. In conclusion, a substitution at residue gamma308Asn may cause a conformational change in the gammachain of fragment D affecting polymerization and plasmin cleavage.     

Spectrophotometric determination of bismuth(III) with o-hydroxyhydroquinonephthalein in the presence of Brij 58

A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric determination of bismuth(III) is based on the reaction between bismuth(III) and o-hydroxyhydroquinonephthalein in the presence of Brij 58 in acidic media. The calibration graph is linear over the range 0-3.5 mug/ml bismuth(III) in the final solution, and the apparent molar absorptivity at 520 nm is 9.03 x 10(4) l. mole(-1). cm(-1). The proposed method is 2-10 times more sensitive than other methods, and simpler. It has been applied to the assay of bismuth(III) in pharmaceutical preparations, such as dermatol and bismuth subnitrate, with good results.     

Heptakis(6-deoxy-6-guanidino)-β-cyclodextrin: an artificial model for mitochondrial ADP/ATP carrier

Heptakis(6-deoxy-6-guanidino)-β-cyclodextrin, prepared by one-step reaction of heptakis(6-amino-6-deoxy)-β-cyclodextrin with 1H-pyrozolecarboxamidine, binds ADP/ATP very tightly.     

Studies on analgesic oligopeptides. VI. Further studies of synthesis and biological properties of tripeptide alkylamides, Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-X

Nine analogs based on a structure of Tyr-D-Arg-Phe-X (X = alkylamides or alkylhydrazide containing electron-withdrawing atoms or groups) were newly synthesized and their biological properties were examined by the opioid receptor binding properties of mu-, delta- and kappa-receptors, guinea-pig ileum (GPI) assay and analgesic activity in the tail pinch test after subcutaneous administration in mice. Analogs with X = NHCF2CF3, Sar-ol, or NH(CH2)2CN showed potent activities in the GPI and analgesic assays and high affinity for mu-receptor. An analog with X = taurinamide was found to possess 4-fold higher mu-receptor selectivity than that of [D-Ala2, MePhe4, Gly-ol5]enkephalin (DAGO). The receptor binding properties of previously reported analogs [Chem. Pharm. Bull., 33, 1528 (1985); ibid., 33, 4865 (1985); ibid., 36, 4834 (1988)] were also examined for overall discussion of the structure-activity relationships of this series of tripeptide amides.
